Xiaomi Password Doesn’t Work: What to Do If Your Phone Is Blocked

Have you entered a password on Xiaomi several times in a row, but the screen persists in flashing "The Wrong Password"? or even forgotten the combination after a long break in use? The situation is familiar to many - according to statistics, one in five smartphone owners has experienced a lock screen at least once. Fortunately, the manufacturer and the enthusiast community have several proven ways to regain access to the device - from official to technically complex.

In this article, we will discuss all the current unlocking methods (including the Redmi, POCO and Mi models on MIUI 14/15), their pros and cons, and give checklists for each case. Importantly, some methods lead to data loss, so first check whether your Mi Account is linked to your phone - this is your main lifeline.

1 Unlocking through Mi Account (official method)

The most secure and recommended method for Xiaomi is to use a tied Mi Account, which works if:

• 📱 The phone is connected to the Internet (Wi-Fi or mobile network).
• 🔑 Remember the username and password from Mi Account.
• 🔄 Find My Device is activated in the settings.

After 5 failed attempts to enter the password, the button Forgot password? (or Forgot password?) will appear on the screen.

1. Enter the email or phone number associated with the Mi Account.
2. Confirm your identity through SMS-code.
3. Reset the screen password directly in the browser.

If the buttons Forgot your password? no, try unlocking your device through the web version of Mi Cloud:

1. Sign in to the site.
2. Go to Find the Device (Find Device) section.
3. Select a locked phone and press Unlock.

⚠️ Note: If the phone is disconnected, this method will not work, and Xiaomi can request confirmation via the Internet. SMS to a trusted number – make sure you have access to it.

2. reset to factory settings (Hard Reset)

If the Mi Account is not tied or you don't remember the login details, you have a hard reset via Recovery Mode, which removes all data from your phone, including photos, messages and apps, but returns access to the system, and is suitable for Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO models on any version of MIUI.

Instructions for phones with physical buttons (e.g. Redmi 9A, POCO M3):

1. Turn off the phone (press Power + Volume up for 10 seconds).
2. Press Power + Volume up until the Mi logo appears.
3. In the Recovery menu, select Wipe Data (use volume buttons for navigation, Power buttons for confirmation).
4. Confirm the reset (Confirm or Yes).
5. After restarting, set your phone as new.

For models with touch buttons (e.g. Xiaomi 13, Redmi Note 12 Pro):

• 🔌 Connect your phone to charge (the battery must be charged at least 30 times%).
• 📱 Squeeze the power. + Volume up for 15-20 seconds.
• 🔍 In the Recovery menu, find the Wipe All Data option (could be called Factory Reset).

⚠️ Note: Some models may require Mi Account data entry after a reset if Mi Cloud Lock was previously activated.This is anti-theft protection - if the account is not yours, it will not be possible to unlock the phone.

3. Unlock via Fastboot (for advanced users)

If Recovery Mode is not available or the phone is “hanging” on the Mi logo, you can try unlocking via Fastboot, USB-cable and basic knowledge of working with ADB. It is suitable for most models, including Xiaomi. 12T, Redmi K50 and POCO F4.

Step-by-step:

1. Download and install Android SDK Platform Tools (or Mi Flash Tool for firmware).
2. Turn off your phone and put it in Fastboot mode: Clip Power + Volume Down
3. Connect your phone to your PC and open the command line in the folder with ADB.
4. Check the connection command: fastboot devices (should display the serial number of the device).
5. Run reset: fastboot erase userdata fastboot erase frp
6. Reboot the phone: fastboot reboot

If after these commands the phone still requires a password, try flashing stock firmware through the Mi Flash Tool:

• 📥 Download the official firmware for your model from the site MIUI Downloads.
• 🔧 In the Mi Flash Tool, select Clean All mode (complete cleanup).
• ⚡ Connect your phone in Fastboot mode and press Flash.

6. Contact the Xiaomi Service Center

If all of these methods have failed, the last option is to contact an official service center.

• 🔒 Phone requires Mi Account, but you don't remember the data.
• 📱 The screen is damaged and password entry is not possible.
• 🔧 After a failed firmware, the phone does not turn on ("brick»).

1. Find the nearest service center on Xiaomi Support.
2. Take it with you: 📄 Check or warranty card (if the phone is guaranteed). 🆔 Passport (to confirm possession). 📱 Phone box (specified there) IMEI model).

Xiaomi’s official service centers never ask for a password from Mi Account by phone or email. If you receive such a message, they are scammers!

Method 1: Use ADB (if USB debugging is enabled)

If you previously activated USB Debugging (Settings → About Phone → MIUI Version → 7 times Press → For Developers → Debugging by USB), you can try resetting your password via ADB:

Method 2: Bypassing the Safe Mode

On some models (e.g. Redmi 5/6), you can boot into Safe Mode and uninstall the app that blocks the screen:

3. Remove the stock app Lock screen (if possible).
