Did you suddenly find that you couldn't connect to your home Wi-Fi because you forgot your Xiaomi router password? Or did you buy a used device and the previous owner didn't leave the login details? The situation is familiar to many people -- according to statistics, one in three users has at least once experienced a password loss from a router. Fortunately, Xiaomi routers have several ways to restore access, and most of them do not require technical skills.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods to find out the password from the Xiaomi router β from viewing saved networks on devices to resetting settings and using utility utilities. Separately, we will focus on the nuances for popular models: Mi Router 3/4/4A, AX3000, AX6000 and others. Importantly, some methods work only if you previously changed the standard settings or linked the router to your Mi Account.
If you're in a hurry, you can go right to the reset section, which is a universal method for any model, and for those who want to keep the current network settings, the first three sections will be the best.
Method 1: Viewing saved passwords on connected devices
The fastest way to find out the password from Xiaomi's Wi-Fi is to find it in the settings of a device that is already connected to that network, which can be a smartphone, a laptop, a tablet, or even a smart speaker.
On Android smartphones (including Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO), the path to the password depends on the firmware version:
- π± MIUI 12/13/14: Go to Settings. β Wi-Fi, tap your network name, then select Share password. The system will request confirmation by fingerprint or PIN-code.
- π€ Pure Android (9)+): Open the Settings. β Network and Internet β Wi-Fi, click on the network name, then share. The password will show under the QR-code.
- β οΈ Older versions of Android: Require root rights or third-party apps like WiFi Password Viewer (not working on the Android app) MIUI rootless).
On Windows 10/11, you can find out the password through the command line or the graphical interface:
- Open the settings β Network and Internet β Wi-Fi.
- Click Manage Known Networks, select your network.
- Click Properties β Show symbols under the Key to network security field.
On macOS, the path is: System settings β Network β Wi-Fi β Additional, then find your network in the list and tick Show Password. The system will request an administrator password.
β οΈ Note: If you use a public computer or someone else's smartphone to view your password, do not save it in notes or browser - this can lead to a data leak.
Method 2: Recover passwords through the Mi Home app
If your Xiaomi router is linked to your Mi Account, you can learn or change your Wi-Fi password through the official Mi Home app. This method works for most modern models: Mi Router 4A Gigabit Edition, AX3000, AX6000 and others with support for cloud management.
Step instructions:
- Open the Mi Home app and log in under the same account the router is linked to.
- On the home screen, find your router in the list of devices (usually in the Network or Smart Home section).
- Slip on the device, then go to Wi-Fi Settings (or Network Settings).
- The password will appear in the Security Key field (may be hidden under the stars β click the eye icon to view).
If the password is not displayed, try changing it:
- π In the same section, click Change the Wi-Fi password.
- π Enter a new password (minimum 8 characters, with a letter and a number for the AX-series).
- π Confirm the change β the router will automatically update the settings, and all connected devices will be disabled.

An important caveat: if the router was reset to the factory settings, the binding to the Mi Account is removed, in which case you can not restore access through the application β you will need physical access to the device.
Method 3: Viewing the password in the routerβs web interface
All Xiaomi routers have a web management interface through which you can not only change, but also find out the current password from Wi-Fi. To do this, you need to connect to the router via cable or Wi-Fi (if you remember the old password) and open the admin panel.
Instructions for entry:
- Connect to the router: π Ethernet cable (any type of cable) LAN-port). πΆ Wi-Fi (if you know your current password).

- π Login: Admin (default).
- π Password: Admin or the one you set before.
If you can't come in, try:
- π Make sure that IP-Router address unchanged (check ipconfig in Windows command line).
- π Reboot the router (reset button for 10 seconds do not press β this will reset the settings!).
- π‘ Connect from another device (sometimes browsers cache old data).
After entering the interface:
- Go to the Wi-Fi (or Wireless Network) section.
- Find the password or security key field, it can be hidden under the stars.
- Press the eye icon (ποΈ) or checkbox to show password.

If the web interface is in Chinese, add?lang=en to the browser address bar (example: 192.168.31.1?lang=en) to switch to English.
Method 4: Resetting the router to factory settings
If previous methods didnβt work (e.g., you donβt remember the password from the web interface or the router isnβt tied to Mi Account), the one-size-fits-all solution is hardware reset, which will return the router to factory settings, including the Wi-Fi password, but all personal settings (including guest network, parental controls, and device priorities) will be lost.
Resetting instructions:
- Find the Reset button on the back of the router (usually recessed in the case).
- Take a paperclip or toothpick and press the button, holding it for 10-15 seconds.
- The indicators on the router will blink and go out - this is a signal to start resetting.
- Wait 1-2 minutes for the router to restart.
After discharge:
- π The Wi-Fi network will be called the Xiaomi_XXXX or MIWIFI_XXXX (where XXXX β last-minute MAC-address).
- π The default password is on the sticker under the router (e.g. 1234567890 for Mi Router). 4A).
- π‘ Use a standard password to connect or configure a new network via 192.168.31.1.
β οΈ Attention: On Xiaomi routers AX-series (AX3000, AX6000) After the reset, you may need to re-link to your Mi Account through the Mi Home app. Without this, some features (such as the Mesh network) will not be available.
What to do if the Reset button doesnβt work?
Method 5: Alternative methods (for power users)
If the standard methods didn't work, you can try more advanced methods, which require technical skills and are not suitable for all models, but sometimes they are the only solution.
Method 1: Telnet/SSH connection
Some Xiaomi routers (such as Mi Router 3G or stitched alternative software) support access via Telnet or SSH.
- Connect to the router via cable.
- Open the terminal (on Windows - PuTTY, on the macOS/Linux β built-in).
- Enter the command: telnet 192.168.31.1 or for SSH: ssh admin@192.168.31.1
- Sign in (login/password by default β admin/admin).
- Run the command to view the configuration: nvram show | grep wpa_psk For new models: uci show wireless
Method 2: Removing password from backup settings
If you previously saved your router settings to a file (via a web interface), you can extract the password from it:
- π Find a backup file (usually with the.cfg or.bin extension).
- π Open it in a text editor (like Notepad).++) and find a line with wpa_psk or wireless_password.
- β οΈ If the file is encrypted, use utilities like Binwalk or Firmware Mod Kit.
Method 3: Use of Utilities for Recovery
For Qualcomm-based routers (such as Mi Router 4A Gigabit), you can use the QCN Rebuilder utility, which reads data from the deviceβs memory, a method that is risky and can lead to a loss of warranty or a router failure.
β οΈ Warning: Alternative methods may disrupt the router or block certain features, only use them if other methods are exhausted and you understand the possible consequences.
How to Protect Your Password from Xiaomi Router in the Future
To avoid the problem of forgotten passwords again, follow these guidelines:
- π Keep your password safe: Use password managers (KeePass, Bitwarden) write down your password on paper and store it in an inaccessible place (not on the router itself!).
- π Update your firmware regularly: New versions of Xiaomi router software often add access recovery features.
- π Link the router to Mi Account: This will allow you to manage the network remotely and recover the password through the application.
- π‘οΈ Use complex passwords: a combination of 12+ characters with letters, numbers and special characters (for example, Xiaomi)@2026_WiFi!).
Also useful:
- π‘ Set up a guest network for temporary devices β this will reduce the risk of leakage of the main password.
- π Turn it on. WPA3 (readily AX3000/AX6000) enhance security.
- π± Create QR-code for connection (in the settings of the Wi-Fi router) β so guests do not have to enter a password manually.
