Forgot the password from the Xiaomi router admin panel and can't log in? This problem is familiar to many users - especially if the device has been configured for a long time or purchased from hand. Unlike the Wi-Fi password, which can be viewed on the case sticker, the data to access the web interface (192.168.31.1 or miwifi.com) is often lost without the ability to recover through standard means.
In this article, we will discuss all the official and alternative ways to access the admin of the Xiaomi router, from standard login pairs for different models to hardware resets with saving network settings. And also explain why the default password for new Xiaomi routers from 2023 is generated automatically and does not match the data on the sticker. If you encounter a lock after updating the firmware or buying a used device, here you will find a solution.
Standard login and password for Xiaomi routers
Most Xiaomi models (including the Mi Router 3/4/4A/4C/AC2100 and AX1800/AX3000/AX6000 series) use the same credentials for the first entry, but there are nuances depending on the year of release and firmware version:
- ๐น Login: Admin (for all models)
- ๐น Password default: ๐ For routers until 2022: the same as the Wi-Fi password (indicated on the sticker under the case). ๐ For routers 2023-2026: generated automatically when first connected and displayed in the Mi WiFi mobile application (not duplicated on the case!).
If you've never changed your admin password, try these combinations. But keep in mind that after any firmware update or reset, the data may change. AX3600 post-update MIWIFI_R3600_FIRMWARE_1.0.516 Password resets to random set of characters.
Where to see the Admin password if it is not standard
If the standard combinations don't work, don't rush to reset your router. There are several ways to find out your current password without losing your settings:
- Mi WiFi Mobile App: Open the App โ Go to Devices โ Select Your Router โ Wi-Fi Settings. In some versions, the admin password is displayed in the Device Management section (requires a sign-in to the Mi Account associated with the router).
- Configuration file (for hardwired routers only): If you have custom firmware installed (for example, Padavan or OpenWRT), connect to SSH and execute the command: cat /etc/shadow | grep admin The answer will be an encrypted password - it can be decrypted by online services like hashes.com.
What to do if the Mi WiFi app does not show a password?
โ ๏ธ Note: Some users try to connect to the router via Telnet (port 23) with standard data.Since 2021, Xiaomi has disabled this method by default due to security vulnerabilities.Use only official methods!
How to Reset Administrator Password Without Losing Wi-Fi Settings
If none of these methods work, you'll have to reset your password. Fortunately, Xiaomi has a hidden feature that allows you to reset only the admin data while saving your network settings (SSID, Wi-Fi password, device association).
Turn off the router from power | Press the Reset button (10 seconds) | Without releasing the button, connect the power | Wait for the orange indicator to flash (30 seconds) | Release the button - the router will reboot with the admin's factory password (Wi-Fi settings will remain)
-->
This method works on Mi Router models. 3/4/4A/4C/AC2100 and AX1800/AX3000 firmware 1.0.45. For AX6000/AX9000 requires a different approach:
- Connect to the router via cable (LAN1 port).
- Open your browser and go to the address 192.168.31.1/rec_pwd.html.
- Enter the router serial number (specified on the sticker) and press Submit.
- The system will generate a temporary password that will last 24 hours.
๐ก
If the page /rec_pwd.html If it does not open, try using another browser (like Firefox) or clear the cache, some firmware will block access to that address via Chrome.
Full reset of Xiaomi router to factory settings
If the previous methods didn't work, it's just a hard reset, which will bring the router back out of the box, but it will delete:
- ๐ถ Wi-Fi settings (network name and password)
- ๐ Tethered devices (including Mi Home smart home)
- ๐ Parental Control and Guest Network Rules
- ๐ Port settings and DMZ
For discharge:
- Turn on the router.
- Find the Reset button (usually hidden in the hole on the back).
- Press it with a paper clip for 15-20 seconds until the indicators start to blink quickly.
- Release the button and wait for the reboot (2-3 minutes).
After discharge:
- ๐ง Login: admin
- ๐ Password: See the sticker below the case (for models up to 2023) or generated in the Mi WiFi app.
๐ก
After a hard reset, the router will automatically create a new Wi-Fi network with a name Xiaomi_XXXX (where XXXX โ last-minute MAC-Connect to it to reconfigure the device.
Table: Default passwords for popular Xiaomi models
| Model router | Login. | Password default | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Router 3/3G/3C | admin | Like on a sticker (wi-fi password) | Firmware up to 2.28.13 vulnerable to Telnet attack |
| Mi Router 4/4A/4C | admin | Random (displayed in Mi WiFi) | Since 2022, the password is not duplicated on the case |
| Mi Router AC2100 | admin | Like on a sticker (if not changed) | Supports password reset through /rec_pwd.html |
| Xiaomi AX1800/AX3000 | admin | It is generated at the first connection | Requires a link to your Mi Account |
| Xiaomi AX6000/AX9000 | admin | Random (12 characters) | Password can be seen in Mi WiFi โ Device management |
โ ๏ธ Note: If you bought a router with your hands, the previous owner could have linked it to his Mi Account, in which case, even after resetting, you will need his email to unlock (see section below).
What to do if the router is tied to someone elseโs Xiaomi account
One of the most frustrating situations is when the router is blocked from the previous owner's account, which is typical for the AX1800/AX3000/AX6000 models, where binding to the Mi Account is required.
- Try contacting the seller: Check if they have untied the device from their account. If not, ask them to do so through the Mi WiFi app (Device Management โ Delete Device).
- Contact Xiaomi for support: Write to the support chat (at mi.com/support) with a photo of the purchase check and the router serial number. They can remove the binding manually (it will take 3-5 days).
- Alternative method (for advanced): Install custom firmware (Padavan or OpenWRT) via UART or TFTP. This will remove all locks, but require soldering or a programmer. The risks of custom firmware are void of warranties, may contain vulnerabilities and do not support features like Mesh network or Mi Home. Use only if there are no other options!
How to Protect Xiaomi Router After Access Restoration
After successfully logging in to the admin, don't leave a standard password. Here are the security tips:
- ๐ Set a complex password: minimum 12 symbols with numbers, capital letters and special signs (for example, Xiaomi)@2026_Router#AX).
- ๐ฑ Link the router to your Mi Account: this will allow you to manage it remotely and restore access.
We also recommend that you turn off the function. WPS (Wi-Fi section โ Additionally), because it's vulnerable to brute force attacks, if you want fast device synchronization, use Mi Home instead. QR-code (available in new firmware).
