Forgot the password from Xiaomi router and can not connect to Wi-Fi? This problem is familiar to many — especially if the device was configured a long time ago or the password was entered automatically. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several ways to restore access, and most of them do not require special skills. In this article, we will discuss all the current methods, from simply viewing the saved password on the connected device to completely reset the router settings.
It’s important to understand that Xiaomi releases routers in different series — Mi Router 4A/4C/4Q, AX1800/AX3000/AX3600, Redmi Router and others. Most of the instructions are universal, but some features (such as managing through Mi Home) may differ depending on the model and firmware version. If your router is released before 2019, check for updates — older versions of the software sometimes contain vulnerabilities that make it easier to restore access.
1. Verification of saved password on connected device
The fastest way is to look at the password on a gadget that is already connected to the Xiaomi network, which works if at least one device (smartphone, laptop, tablet) has previously saved login data.
On Windows:
- 🖥️ Open the control panel. → Network and Internet → Network control centre.
- 🔍 Find your Wi-Fi network, right-click it and select Wireless Network Properties.
- 🔐 Go to the Security tab and tick Display the entered characters - the password will become visible.
On Android (smartphones Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO):
- 📱 Go to Settings. → Wi-Fi, tap on your network.
- 🔗 Choose to share (or QR-newer-version MIUI).
- 🔑 The system requests PIN-code or fingerprint - after confirmation will show the password.
⚠️ Note: On iPhone (iOS), you can't view your saved password without jailbreaking. Use other methods.
2. Recovery via the router's web interface
If you have access to the router's admin panel, you can change or view your Wi-Fi password without resetting.
- Connect to the router via cable (recommended) or Wi-Fi (if the password is still valid on one of the devices).
- Open your browser and type in 192.168.31.1 (for most Xiaomi models) or miwifi.com.
- Enter the username and password to log in to the panel: 🔑 Login: admin 🔑 Password: Admin or the one you set up when setting up.

If you do not remember the login data to the admin panel, you will have to reset the router (see section 4).

The Mi Home app (or Mi Wi-Fi for routers) lets you manage Xiaomi devices, including changing your Wi-Fi password.This method works if the router is tied to your Xiaomi account.
Instructions:
- Install Mi Home from Google Play or App Store.
- Sign in under the same account that was used when setting up the router.
- In the main menu, find your router (such as Mi Router 4A or AX3600).
- Go to Wi-Fi Settings → Password and enter a new one.

Resetting to factory settings is the only way to restore access if you have forgotten both the Wi-Fi password and the login data to the admin panel.
5. Alternative methods (for experienced users)
If the standard methods don't work, you can try more complex ones, they require technical knowledge and they're not suitable for all models.
Method 1: Connecting to Telnet/SSH
Some Xiaomi routers (especially older models) allow you to connect via Telnet or SSH and change your settings manually.
- Install PuTTY (Windows) or use a terminal (Linux/macOS).
- Connect to IP-router address via Telnet protocol:
- Enter the username/password (often root and admin by default).
- Run a command to view the configuration:
- Find the line with the Wi-Fi password (can be encrypted).
Method 2: Retrieving data from backup
If you have previously backed up your router settings (a file with a.cfg or.bin extension), you can extract your password from it using special utilities like RouterPassView or Binwalk, which requires skills in working with hex editors.
⚠️ Attention: Use Telnet/SSH And editing configuration files can cause the router to break permanently if the commands are entered incorrectly.
6. Appeal in support of Xiaomi
If none of these methods work, you can only get official support, which is true for routers that are tied to a Xiaomi account, but cannot be reset due to hardware malfunctions.

- 🔍 Select the router category and your device model.
- 📧 Write to chat or create a ticket, specifying: Serial router number (located on the sticker below). Proof of purchase (checks, warranty card). Description of the problem (forgot password, reset does not work, etc.).
