Why Xiaomi 4C is not visible in Mi Home and how to fix it
The Xiaomi Mi Router 4C router is one of the most popular network devices in Xiaomi’s lineup, but its integration with the Mi Home app often raises questions among users. The problem is that the standard Bluetooth connection procedure (like most Xiaomi smart devices) doesn’t work here: the router requires direct Ethernet connection and manual configuration via the web interface. Moreover, after the firmware update of 2023-2026, many people face the error “The device is not supported in your region”, even if the router is successfully added to the network.
In this article, we will discuss three official ways of connecting (via Mi Home, web interface and alternative software), as well as how to circumvent regional restrictions and avoid typical errors. DHCP UPnP – without them, the router may not appear in the Xiaomi ecosystem even after a successful connection.
If you’ve tried to add Xiaomi 4C to the Mi Home and you’ve got an error, check out:
- 🔌 Is the router connected to the Internet through WAN-port).
- 📱 Mi Home version is at least 6.5.400 (older versions do not support routers).
- 🌍 The region in the Mi Home account is set to China (even if you are in Russia).
Preparation of the Xiaomi 4C router for connection
Before adding Xiaomi 4C to the Mi Home, you need to perform a basic setup of the device. Unlike smart lamps or sensors, the router does not have the “Easy Setup” function – it must first be manually configured.
First, connect the router to power and wait until the indicator on the front starts flashing yellow (connection standby mode).
- Connect. LAN-router port with computer or laptop via Ethernet cable.
- Open your browser and go to 192.168.31.1 (or miwifi.com).
- Enter the default login and password: admin/admin (or check the sticker on the bottom of the router).
Critical: If the router has been configured before, reset it to factory settings. To do this, press the Reset button (on the back) for 10-15 seconds until the indicator flashes orange. Without reset, the router may not appear in Mi Home due to a conflict of DHCP settings.

Method 1: Connect via Mi Home (official method)
This is the easiest way, but it only works if the router is not set up yet and is in factory condition. If you've already changed your settings through the web interface, use Method 2.
Instructions:
- Open Mi Home and go to the Add Device section (+ icon in the upper right corner).
- Select the Routers category and find the Mi Router 4C model.
- Connect to the network. Xiaomi_XXXX (password is indicated on the router sticker).
- Wait for the app to find the device and follow the instructions on the screen.
Important: in the region selection phase, choose China, even if you are in Russia or Europe, otherwise the router will not be linked to the account.
What if Mi Home does not find the router?
After successful connection, the router will appear in the list of devices, but the functionality will be limited: through Mi Home, you can only:
- 📶 View the list of connected devices.
- 🔄 Reboot the router remotely.
- 🔒 Change the Wi-Fi password.
Extended settings (such as guest networking or traffic control) will still require a web interface.
Method 2: Configure via a web interface with reference to Mi Home
If the router is already set up or Mi Home refuses to see it, use this method. It requires manual data entry, but it is guaranteed to work even with outdated firmware.
Steps:
- Connect your computer to Xiaomi 4C through LAN-port.
- Open your browser and log in to the web interface at 192.168.31.1.
- Go to Settings → Cloud Services → Mi Cloud.
- Enter the username and password from your Mi Home account.
- Click “Tie the device” and wait for synchronization.
Note: If the router does not appear in Mi Home after the link, check:
- 🔄 Update the router’s firmware through Settings → Update of the PO.
- 🌐 Make sure that UPnP is enabled in the router settings (Settings) → Additionally. → UPnP).
- 📵 Turn off the firewall or antivirus on your computer – they can block the connection to Xiaomi servers.
💡
If the router’s web interface opens in Chinese, add?lang=en to the browser address bar (example: 192.168.31.1/?lang=en).
Solving the problem “The device is not supported in your region”
This is the most common mistake when connecting Xiaomi 4C to Mi Home, which is caused by the fact that the router is originally designed for the Chinese market, and Xiaomi servers block its association with accounts from other regions.
There are two ways to get around this limitation:
| Method | Difficulty | Risks. | Instructions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Change of region to Mi Home | ⭐ | Low. | Open Mi Home and go to profile. Click on the country at the top of the screen and select China. "" Restart the app and reconnect. |
| Use of VPN | ⭐⭐ | Medium (can block the account) | Install a VPN with servers in China (e.g. ExpressVPN or NordVPN). Connect to a Chinese server. Launch Mi Home and add a router. |
| Manual binding via token | ⭐⭐⭐ | High (requires technical knowledge) | Get the Mi Home Token via Packet Capture or HTTP Toolkit. Use Mi Home OpenAPI to anchor the device. |
After changing the region to Mi Home, some of the router's features (such as parental controls) may not work properly. To return the original settings, reset the router and repeat the binding.
💡
Changing the region in Mi Home to China is the safest way to get around the “Device not supported” error. VPN can result in account locking when used frequently.
Additional settings after connection
After successfully linking Xiaomi 4C to Mi Home, it is recommended to perform several important settings for stable operation:
1. Firmware update
Go to the router’s web interface (192.168.31.1) and check for updates in Settings → Software Update. Xiaomi regularly releases patches to fix vulnerabilities and improve compatibility with Mi Home.
2. DHCP setup
If there are other routers or access points on your network, turn off DHCP Xiaomi 4C, avoiding conflict IP-address:
Settings → Local Network → DHCP → Disable3. Enabling UPnP
This feature is necessary for the correct operation of Xiaomi smart devices (for example, cameras or robot vacuum cleaners):
Settings → Additional → UPnP → Include4. Creation of a guest network
If guests connect to your Wi-Fi, set up a separate network with limited access:
Settings → Wi-Fi → Guest network → Enable💡
To speed up Wi-Fi on Xiaomi 4C, change the channel manually. In urban areas, it is better to use channels 1, 6 or 11 (they least intersect with neighboring networks).
Frequent mistakes and their solutions
