Xiaomi Mi Router 4C is one of the most popular budget routers from the Chinese brand, combining compactness, stable operation and ease of setting. Despite modest technical characteristics (dual-band Wi-Fi up to 300 Mbps, 4 LAN ports), the device is great for tasks in small apartments or offices up to 10 devices. However, many users face difficulties already at the stage of the first connection: the indicators are not lit, the network does not appear, the Mi Wi-Fi application refuses to see the router.
In this article, we will look at the whole process of connecting in steps, from the physical connection of cables to fine-tuning the network, and pay special attention to typical errors (for example, why the router does not give out a message). IP-If you've never set up network equipment before, don't worry: the manual is designed for beginners, but it also contains useful chips for experienced users.
Before you start, make sure you have something on hand: 1) The Xiaomi router itself 4C complete-powered (5V/1A), 2) Ethernet cable from the provider (or patch cord for connecting to the modem), 3) Smartphone/tablet with Mi Wi-Fi (or computer to configure via web interface).Important: Xiaomi router 4C supportive SIM-Cards β to connect to the mobile Internet will be required USB-Modem (but this is a topic for a separate article).
1. Unpacking and preparing the router for work
Start with the basic one: unpack the router and check the equipment.
- π¦ The router itself Xiaomi Mi Router 4C (white-case)
- π Power supply unit with a micro-USB connector (5V/1A)
- π Short instructions in Chinese/English
- π Ethernet cable (not always included β depending on the region)
If something is missing (e.g., power supply), don't use smartphone charging -- they may not provide the right current, which will cause the router to run unstablely. MDY-05-EU or similar.
Next, perform the following actions:
- Connect the power supply to the router via the Micro-USB port (located on the back panel).
- Put the plug in the socket. The power indicator (blue LED) should flash, which means that the device is ready to adjust. If the LED is not burning or is burning yellow, see the "Problem Solutions" section.
- Place your router in the center of the room (or closer to your primary Internet use) and avoid enclosed cabinets, metal surfaces, and microwave ovens, which interfere with your Wi-Fi signal.
π‘
If you have a two-story home, place your router on the second floor β the signal travels better from top to bottom than vice versa.
2. Internet connection: cable connection
Now you need to connect the router to the Internet source, and there are two options.
Option 1: Direct connection to the provider (if you have a dedicated line or fiber optic):
Insert the ISP's Ethernet cable into the WAN port (it's usually blue and signed) Make sure the cable is tightly in the connector, you can hear the click.
Option 2: Connect via modem (if you have a ADSL or 4G-modem):
Connect the Xiaomi router 4C with a patch cord modem (twisted pair cable) by inserting one end into the port LAN modem and the other to port WAN Don't confuse ports, if you plug the cable into the router. LAN-The router port, the Internet will not work.
After the cable is connected, the WAN indicator (usually yellow or orange) should light up or start flashing.
- π Restart the router (turn off power for 10 seconds).
- π Check the cable for damage (curves, ruptures).
- π Check with the provider if the link is required MAC-address (relevant for some operators, for example, Rostelecom).
3. Setup via the Mi Wi-Fi app (recommended method)
The easiest way to set up Xiaomi 4C is to use the official Mi Wi-Fi app, which automatically determines the router model and offers optimal options.
- π± Android (Google Play)
- π iOS (App Store)
After installation, follow the following steps:
- Connect your smartphone to the router's Wi-Fi network. The default network is called the Xiaomi_XXXX (where XXXX β last-minute MAC-Addresses, no password.
- Launch the Mi Wi-Fi app and click "Add router." The app should automatically find the Xiaomi 4C.
- Select the setting mode: βQuick setupβ (recommended) or βManualβ.
- Enter data from the provider: π Connection type: PPPoE (if login/password required), Dynamic IP (if the provider issues IP automatic) or static IP (If the provider has sent a fixed setting). π Login and password (if you need PPPoE).

5. Network optimization: channels, power and security
After the basic setup, optimize the router for stable speed and protection against hacking.
| Parameter | Recommended value | Where to change |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi channel (2.4 GHz) | 1, 6 or 11 (least loaded) | Wi-Fi settings β Additional |
| Channel width | 20 MHz (for stability) | Wi-Fi settings β Additional |
| Transmission power | High (if the router is far from the devices) | Wi-Fi settings β Additional |
| Type of security | WPA2-PSK (Don't use WEP!) | Wi-Fi settings β Security |
| Guest access | Disabled (or with a separate password) | Wi-Fi settings β Guest network |
To check for congestion, use applications like Wi-Fi Analyzer (Android) or NetSpot (Windows/macOS). If there are many networks on channel 6 nearby, switch to 1 or 11.
Safety Council: Disable the function WPS (If it is in the settings, it is an outdated protocol with vulnerabilities, and we also recommend changing the admin panel password from a standard admin to a complex one (for example, Xiaomi_2026!Router).

The use of channels 12-14 in Russia is prohibited β the router can work unstable, and the provider has the right to block access.
Typical problems and their solutions
Even after the right setup, there can be problems.
Problem 1: The router doesn't give away the internet (the WAN indicator doesn't burn)
- π Check the cable: try connecting it directly to your computer. If the Internet works, the router is a problem.
- π Reboot the router and modem (if any).
- π Check with the provider if yours is blocked. MAC-If so, clone it. MAC in router settings (Network) β Cloning MAC).
Problem 2: Wi-Fi is working, but speed is low
- πΆ Check the load of the channel (see section above).
- π Reboot your router β sometimes it helps.
- π οΈ Disable devices that may consume traffic (such as torrent clients).
- π If you use PPPoE, try to turn it on. MTU 1472 in connection settings.
Problem 3: Mi Wi-Fi app doesn't see router
- π± Make sure your phone is connected to the router network (not mobile data!).
- π Reinstall the app.
- π οΈ Check if the developer mode is on the phone. β Local area network (relevant to some Xiaomi models).
β οΈ Note: If the router stops turning on after resetting (only the yellow indicator burns), this may indicate firmware damage. TFTP-server - the procedure is complex and risky, it is better to contact the service center.
7 Additional features: Parental controls, IPv6 and IPTV
The Xiaomi 4C router supports several useful features that often go unnoticed:
Parental controls:
It allows you to restrict Internet access for certain devices on a schedule, for example, you can block access to social networks for a children's tablet from 22:00 to 7:00. β Parental control.
IPv6:
If your ISP supports IPv6, turn this option on the Web β IPv6. This can speed up the loading of some sites (for example, YouTube or Google).
IPTV:
To view digital TV via a router (for example, from Rostelecom or MTS):
1. Connect the console to the LAN1 port (it is usually a priority for IPTV).
2. In the router settings, turn on IGMP Proxy (Network β IPTV).
3. Reboot the router and console.
