Xiaomi routers have gained popularity due to a combination of high performance, stable operation and affordable price. However, many users face an unexpected problem: after buying or resetting the device interface is displayed in Chinese, English or another unfamiliar language, which makes it difficult to set up the network, especially if you do not speak foreign languages.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to change the language on Xiaomi routers (including Mi Router models). 4A/4C, AX3600, AX6000, AIoT Router AC2350 You will learn how to switch over the web interface, the Mi Wi-Fi mobile application, and what to do if the desired language is not on the list.
Importantly, the procedure may vary slightly depending on the firmware version and router model. If your device does not support Russian out of the box, we will show workarounds, from manually installing language packets to alternative firmware.
1. Preparation for the change of language: what you need to know
Before you start changing your language, make sure that:
- π The router is connected to the power supply network and is turned on (the power indicator is lit in green or blue).
- πΆ Your device (PC, smartphone, tablet) is connected to the router network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable.
- π You have access to the web interface (the address is usually listed on the sticker below the router, such as 192.168.31.1 or miwifi.com).
- π± If you plan to use Mi Wi-Fi, check its relevance in Google Play or App Store.
Most modern Xiaomi routers support a lot of language interface, but there are nuances:
- π¨π³ Models for the Chinese market (for example, with suffix) CN In the title, they often have a limited number of languages.
- π¬π§ International versions (with the Global suffix) usually include Russian, English, Spanish and other European languages.
- π After resetting, the language can return to factory (most often Chinese or English).
Attention to firmware! The router's firmware version has a direct impact on the available languages, such as in old firmware for Mi Router. 3G Russian may not be available, but it has been added to new builds, and you can update the firmware via a web interface or an app, which we will discuss in one of the following sections.
2. Method 1: Changing language through a web interface
This is the most reliable and versatile method, and it works on most models, and it's suitable for routers with MiWiFi-based firmware. ROM OpenWRT (if the official version is installed).
Step 1. Open your browser on your PC or mobile device and enter one of the addresses in the address bar:
- 192.168.31.1 (standard) IP For most of Xiaomi routers),
- miwifi.com (alternative domain name).
If the page doesnβt open, check your router connection or try another browser (we recommend Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox).
Step 2. Sign in. By default, login and password:
- Login: admin,
- Password: Admin or the field is empty (unless you have changed it before).
Connect to the router network|Open the browser and enter 192.168.31.1|Authorize (login / password: admin)|Check the stability of the Internet connection-->
Step 3. Once you log into the control panel, find the language settings section, which may be called:
- Settings β System β Language (English version),
- β β (Chinese version of characters means "Settings"),
- Settings β System system β Language (Russian version).
If the interface is in Chinese, focus on visual cues:
- π Icon of the gear (βοΈ) usually leads to "Settings".
- π₯οΈ The computer or document icon may represent a "System".
- π The globe icon (π) often used to indicate language.
Step 4: In the list of available languages, select Russian (or Russian). If not, try:
- π Update the firmware (Update or Firmware Update section).
- π₯ Install the language package manually (instructions in section 4).
Step 5: Save the changes with Save or Save. The router can reboot, which is normal. After restarting, the interface will be displayed in the selected language.
π‘
If some sections are left in English or Chinese after changing the language, try clearing your browser cache or using incognito mode. Sometimes old page data is loaded from cache.
3. Method 2: Changing language through the Mi Wi-Fi application
The Mi Wi-Fi mobile app (formerly Mi Router) allows you to control your router from your smartphone, which is convenient if you don't have access to a PC or prefer to configure everything from your phone, but there's a limitation: not all models support changing the language through the app.
Step 1. Install the Mi Wi-Fi app:
- π± For Android: Google Play.
- π For iOS: App Store.
Make sure you have the latest version β some features may be missing from older builds.
Step. 2. Connect your smartphone to the router network and open the application. log in with your Xiaomi account (if you have previously linked the router) or enter a login / password from the control panel (admin/admin).
Step 3. Go to the router settings section. Depending on the application version, the path may look like this:
- Devices β [Name of your router] β Settings β Language,
- Router β Settings β System β Language (English version).
Step 4: Choose Russian from the list. If you don't have a language, try:
- π Update the router firmware through the Software Update section in the application.
- π Make sure you have an international version of the router (Global Suffix Models).
Step 5: Save the changes and wait for the router to restart. If the language hasn't changed, try repeating the procedure through the web interface.
β οΈ Note: Some versions of the Mi Wi-Fi application may not have a language change section due to router firmware limitations, in which case use a web interface or alternative methods (section 4).
4 What to do if the language is not on the list
The situation when the settings of the router are not Russian or other required language, it is not uncommon.
- π¨π³ Routers for the Chinese market (Mi Router) 4A Gigabit Edition CN, AX1800 CN etc.).
- π¦ Devices with outdated firmware (until 2020 release).
- π οΈ Modified firmware (e.g. Padavan or OpenWRT without language packs).
The problem can be solved in one of the following ways:
Update to the international version
Official International Firmware (Global) ROM) They often include more languages:
- Download the latest firmware version for your model from the official Xiaomi website.
- Go to the routerβs web interface in the Update section.
- Download the downloaded file and wait for the process to be completed (the router will restart).
Manual installation of the language package
Some firmware (e.g. OpenWRT) support the installation of language packets via SSH. For that:
- Connect to the router on SSH (Use PuTTY for Windows or Terminal for macOS/Linux).
- Run the command to install the package (example for Russian):
opkg update
opkg install luci-i18n-base-ruAfter installation, restart the router with the reboot command.
Installation of alternative firmware
If the official firmware does not support the desired language, you can consider alternatives:
- π§ Padavan β a popular firmware with support for Russian and other languages.
- π§ OpenWRT β open firmware with flexible settings (requires manual installation of language packages).
Please note that unofficial firmware installation can be unwarranted and lead to unstable work risks. Make a backup of the settings before the firmware!
| Model router | Support for the Russian language | Recommended solution |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Router 4A (Global) | Yeah (last firmware) | Update the software through the web interface |
| Mi Router 4C (CN) | No (Chinese/English only) | Install Padavan or upgrade to Global ROM |
| Xiaomi AX3600 | Yes (in international version) | Change the language through a web interface or application |
| Xiaomi AX6000 | Yes (lots of language support) | Use standard settings |
| Mi Router 3G | Partially (depends on firmware) | Update or install OpenWRT |
β οΈ Note: When installing alternative firmware (Padavan, OpenWRT), there is a risk of βbrickingβ the router (turning into a βbrickβ). Before you install the firmware, make sure that the version you choose is compatible with your router model β the wrong firmware can make the device inoperable. We recommend that you review the reviews in the forums (for example, 4PDA) before the beginning of the process.
