Xiaomi Amplifier (also known as Mi Wi-Fi Repeater or Xiaomi Wi-Fi Extender) is a compact device that helps expand wireless coverage in your home or home. However, many users face problems when setting up, from not being able to connect to the amplifier to weak signal after installation. It is important to understand that the Xiaomi Amplifier works in two modes: as a repeater (repeater) and as an access point (in some models), we will focus on the first option, as it is the most popular. Before you start, make sure you have:
✔ Main router with running Wi-Fi (standards support) 802.11 b/g/n/ac).

✔ Access to the power supply network near the weak signal zone.
1. Preparation for setting up: location selection and compatibility check
The first step is to place the amplifier correctly, and many people mistakenly place it in the farthest corner of the apartment, where the signal is barely picked up, which leads to the amplifier being unable to consistently "catch" the original Wi-Fi, and the speed drops by 2-3 times.
- 📡 Halfway between the router and the “dead zone” (where the signal is weak, but there are still 2-3 divisions on the smartphone).
- 🔌 Near the outlet, but not behind furniture or in a metal cabinet - the amplifier body must "breathe".
- 🚫 Not close to microwaves, cordless phones or other sources of interference (2.4 GHz band is particularly sensitive to them).
Before setting up, check your router’s compatibility with the amplifier. Xiaomi Amplifier works with all modern routers, but there may be problems with:
- 🔒 Hidden routers SSID (network name not broadcast).
- 🔄 Frequent channel change sets (Auto Channel function in router).
- 🛡️ Corporate networks with WPA2-Enterprise or radius servers.
⚠️ Note: If your router uses encryption WEP (outdated standard, Xiaomi amplifier will not be able to connect to it. WPA2-PSK or WPA3.
2. Physical connection and first launch
Put the amplifier on the socket, and the light will come on.
🔴 Red: No Wi-Fi connection.
🟢 Green - the device is ready to be set up.
🔵 Blue – a successful connection to the router.
If the indicator does not light up, check:
1. the power outlet is correct (try another device).
2. Integrity of the power cable (for models with an external unit).
3. Reset button on the body - there may have been an accidental press.
To reset the settings to factory, press the Reset button (usually hidden in a small hole) for 10-15 seconds until the indicator blinks 3 times.

3. Setup via the Mi Wi-Fi app (recommended method)
The easiest way to set up the amp is to use the official Mi Wi-Fi app (available for Android and iOS).
Step-by-step:
- Open the app and click Add Device → Wi-Fi amplifier.
- Select your router’s network from the list and enter your password.
- Set a name for the extended network (it will be the same as the router by default, but with the EXT suffix). We recommend leaving it original so that devices automatically switch between the router and the amplifier.
- Specify the password for the new network (may match the password of the main network).
- Wait until the setting is completed (1-2 minutes). The indicator on the amplifier should turn blue.
If the application does not find the amplifier:
Make sure your smartphone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the router.
Restart the application and amplifier (remove/insert the plug from the socket).
Check that the smartphone is enabled Bluetooth – some models Xiaomi Amplifier use it for initial configuration.

If you have a Xiaomi Amplifier Pro, the app will have an option called "Mesh Mode" that should be enabled if you have multiple amplifiers or a Xiaomi router that supports Mesh networks.
4. Configure via web interface (alternative method)
If the application doesn't work or you prefer manual configuration, you can use the web-based amp interface.
- Connect your computer or smartphone to the amplifier network (its name will be Xiaomi_Repeater_XXXX, where XXXX — last-minute MAC-address).
- Open your browser and go to http://192.168.0.1 or http://miwifi.com.
- Enter the login and password (by default — admin/admin, unless changed).
- In the menu, select Quick Setup. → Repeater Mode.
- Select the router network from the list, enter the password and save the settings.
In the web interface, you can also:
- 🔄 Change the Wi-Fi channel (if the router uses automatic selection, try fixing the channel manually).
- 📶 Disable the speed limit for connected devices (Bandwidth Control tab).
- 🔒 Set up a guest network with a separate password (if the model supports it).

5. Signal optimization and problem solving
Once set up, the amplifier may not work smoothly. Let's look at the typical problems and their solutions:
- 🐢 Low speed: If the speed through the amplifier is 2-5 times lower than directly from the router: - Check the distance between the router and the amplifier (optimally - 5-10 meters). - Make sure that the amplifier is connected to a 5 GHz network (if the router is dual-band). Disable Band Steering (automatic switching between 2.4 and 5 GHz) on the router – it may conflict with the amplifier.
- 🔄 Persistent communication interruptions: The cause is often channel congestion. Use the Wi-Fi Analyzer (Android) or NetSpot app (iOS/macOS), Find the least loaded channel and manually set it in router and amplifier settings.
- 🔌 Power not turned on: Check the power supply (if external) for damage. Some Xiaomi Amplifier models use a custom connector DC 5V/1A — Do not connect blocks from other devices.
Critical error: If the amplifier flashes orange and doesn’t connect to the router, the security settings are likely to be out of alignment (e.g., the router uses a router to use the same security settings). To do this, connect all devices to the network. In the Mi Wi-Fi app, select Mesh Network. → Add the device. Follow the instructions on the screen. Mesh's advantage is that the devices automatically switch between nodes without breaking the connection.
- 👥 Guest Network: You can create a separate network for guests with limited access to local resources.
