Set up Xiaomi router via smartphone is not only convenient, but also much faster than through a computer. Modern models Mi Router 4A/4C/AX3000/AX6000 support full configuration through the mobile application Mi Wi-Fi, which eliminates the need to connect the device by cable or understand complex web interfaces. In this article, we will analyze the entire process from the first connection to fine-tuning security, guest network and device prioritization.
Xiaomi routers are designed to be based on the Mi Home ecosystem, but they remain universal for all devices, which means that even if you have an Android or iOS phone, not Xiaomi, you can easily set up your router, and the main thing is to follow the instructions and avoid the typical errors, which we will also talk about.
Preparation for the setup: what will be needed
Before you start configuring your router, make sure you have everything you need, and without these components, it can take a long time or even break halfway.
- π± Android smartphone 5.0+ iOS 10.0+ app-access Store/Google Play
- πΆ Xiaomi router (any model, but check compatibility in the table below)
- π Power supply (socket) 220B or power bank with support 12V/1A)
- π‘ Internet cable from the provider (if you configure a wired connection)
- π Data from the provider: login / password for PPPoE, VLAN ID (if required)
If you are configuring a Xiaomi router as a repeater or mesh system, you will need a primary router with Wi-Fi already running. The AX6000 and AX9000 models may also need a firmware update, which we will discuss in the relevant section.

Installation and configuration of the Mi Wi-Fi application
The official Mi Wi-Fi app is the only legitimate way to set up a Xiaomi router from your phone. Alternative methods (via a browser or third-party utilities) are either not supported or may cause device malfunctions.
- π€ Google Play for Android
- π App Store for iOS
After installation:
- Open the app and select the language (Russian is supported from version 5.0.24).
- Click Add Add the device β Router.
- Allow access to geodata (necessary to search for a router).
- Connect to the temporary network Xiaomi_XXXX (password is indicated on the router sticker).
Important: If the app doesn't find the router, make sure the phone is on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Some models (such as the AX3000) require both protocols to set up initially.
First connection: step-by-step instructions
Now, to the most important step, the initial setup, follow the instructions carefully, as errors in this step can lead to unstable network operation.
- Selection of mode of operation The application will select the mode of operation: π Main router (if you connect the Internet cable from the provider) π Repiter (if you amplify the signal of another router) π Access Point (if you connect to a modem) The main router is suitable for most users.
- Select the type of connection (depending on the provider): π Dynamic IP (DHCP, most often in Rostelecom) π PPPoE (requires a login / password, Beeline, MTS) π‘ Static IP (rarely, usually for corporate clients)

If you have a dual-band router (AX3000 or AX6000), name the nets 2.4GHz and 5GHz in different ways (e.g, MyWiFi_2G and MyWiFi_5G). This will help devices automatically select the optimal range.
