Why you canβt connect to Xiaomiβs Wi-Fi
Are you trying to connect a new gadget to your home network, but the Xiaomi router stubbornly does not accept the password? Or after moving, you forgot the combination of characters that you entered two years ago? The situation is familiar to many - according to statistics, every third user at least once lost access to their own Wi-Fi. The reasons are trivial: rare use of the password (autoconnection on major devices), its complexity (12+ characters with numbers and special signs) or reset router settings after updating the firmware.
Fortunately, Xiaomi routers β whether Mi Router 4A, AX3600 or Redmi Router AC2100 β have several ways to restore access. In this article, we will examine all the current methods, from viewing the password in the web interface to resetting to factory settings. Importantly, some methods require physical access to the router, others work remotely through the Mi Home app.
Before you get to the instructions, check the obvious: it may not be the password, but the network mode. For example, if the router is configured to 802.11r (Fast Transition), some devices may not connect even with the correct password. It is also worth making sure that you are trying to log in to the same network - sometimes Xiaomi routers create separate SSIDs for guest access (usually with the prefix Guest).
Method 1: Password on the router sticker - where to look
The easiest way is to look at the factory password on the device body. Xiaomi traditionally places a login sticker on the bottom panel of the router.
- π€ Name of the network (SSID) β usually begins with Xiaomi_ or MiWiFi_, followed by a unique set of symbols.
- π Password (Password/Key) β combination 8β12 symbols (numbers, letters in different registers, sometimes hyphens).
- π The address of the web interface is most often miwifi.com or IP 192.168.31.1.
- π‘ MAC-Address β may be required to link to the provider.
β οΈ Warning: If you've ever changed your password through your router's settings, the data on the sticker will be irrelevant! This method only works for factory settings. Also, the sticker can wear off over time - especially if the router is on the floor or moves around frequently.
If the sticker is missing or the information on it is not readable, try the following steps:
- Turn over the router and inspect it in good lighting - sometimes the sticker is hidden under the rubber legs.
- Use your phoneβs flashlight at an angle to see the erased symbols.
- If the sticker is damaged, try to restore the password through Mi Home (method 2) or the web interface (method 3).
Method 2: Viewing the password in the Mi Home app
The Mi Home app (now part of the Mi Home App ecosystem) allows you to manage Xiaomi routers remotely, including viewing your current Wi-Fi password.
- β The router is linked to your Xiaomi account (you were logged in to Mi Home previously).
- β You have access to a smartphone with an installed app.
- β The router is connected to the Internet (for data synchronization).
Step instructions:
- Open Mi Home and go to the Device tab (bottom of the screen).
- Find your router in the list (such as the Mi Router AX3600) and tap it.
- From the device menu, select Wi-Fi settings (or Wi-Fi settings).
- The password will be displayed in the Wi-Fi password field (may be hidden under stars β click on the icon of the eye). ποΈ, show).
β οΈ Note: If the router does not appear in Mi Home, check:
- Are you connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the router (for local management)?
- Is the device removed from your account (check Profile β Settings β Devices).
- Has the region changed in the settings of the application (Xiaomi routers are tied to the region of purchase).
Method 3: Web interface router - step-by-step instructions
Web control panel is a universal way to access all router settings, including the Wi-Fi password.
- Connect your computer or smartphone to the network of the Xiaomi router (via Wi-Fi or via a LAN cable).
- Open your browser and type in the address bar miwifi.com or 192.168.31.1.
- Enter the login and password to log into the control panel. By default, this is: Login: admin Password: admin or the one listed on the router sticker.

If you donβt remember the login data to the web interface, try:
- π Reset the password of the control panel through Mi Home (in the router settings there is an option to Reset the password of the admin).
- π§ Use the universal password for Xiaomi routers: a combination of the last 8 characters MAC-address (indicated on the sticker).
- βοΈ Reset the router to factory settings (method 5).
| Model router | Web interface address | Default login/password |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Router 4A/4C | miwifi.com or 192.168.31.1 | admin/admin |
| AX3600/AX6000 | miwifi.com | admin/password from the sticker |
| Redmi Router AC2100 | 192.168.31.1 | admin/last 8 characters of the MAC |

Method 4: Viewing saved passwords on connected devices
If other devices are already connected to your network (laptop, smartphone, tablet), you can extract the password from their settings. Let's look at the options for different OSes.
On Windows 10/11
- Open the settings β Network and Internet β Wi-Fi.
- Click Manage Known Networks and select your Xiaomi network.
- Click Properties, then scroll to the Network Password.
- Check the displayed signs to see the password.
On macOS
- Open the program β Utilities β Keychain.
- Find your network name in the list and double-click on it.
- Check the Show Password and enter the password from your Mac account.
Android.
On smartphones with MIUI (for example, Xiaomi Redmi Note 12) password can be viewed as follows:
- Go to Settings. β Wi-Fi.
- Slip on the connected network and select Share.
- Confirm identification (PIN, fingerprint or pattern lock).
- The password will be displayed under QR-code.
β οΈ Note: Some firmware (especially custom) may be disabled for security reasons, and on iPhones without jailbreak, you canβt extract a password β Apple is hiding this information.
Method 5: Resetting the router to factory settings
If all previous methods fail, hard reset will return the router to the "out of the box" state, including the default Wi-Fi password (specified on the sticker), and note that after the reset, you will have to reconfigure the router again: provider, network name, password, guest access, etc.
Instructions for Xiaomi routers:
- Find the Reset button on the back of the router (usually deepened into the case).
- Take a paperclip or toothpick, press and hold the button for 10-15 seconds until the indicators start flashing.
- Release the button and wait for the reboot (1-2 minutes).
- Connect to a network with a name Xiaomi_XXXX (where XXXX β unique suffix) and use the password from the sticker.
π§ Important: On some models (for example, AX6000) Reset is performed via the web interface: Settings β Additionally. β Recovery and discharge β Resetting settings.

More tips: how not to lose your password in the future
To avoid such situations, follow simple rules:
- π Save your password in your password manager (e.g. Bitwarden, 1Password or embedded MIUI Safe Notes).
- π± Take a photo of the router sticker and save the photo to the cloud (Google Photos, Mi Cloud).
- π Use a simple but strong password (e.g., a 4-word phrase with numbers: Coffee Green2026Summer).
- π Link the router to your Xiaomi account β this will allow you to manage it through Mi Home even after a reset.
It is also useful to create a guest network with a separate password for friends and smart devices (lamps, cameras), which will reduce the risk of leakage of the main password. Guest network setting is available in the router's web interface in the Wi-Fi section β Guest network.

Regularly update your routerβs firmware via Mi Home or web interface. New versions often fix vulnerabilities that allow attackers to hack your Wi-Fi.
