Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 is one of the most popular smartphones in the budget segment, released in 2019. Despite the strength of the case, over time it may require disassembly: to replace the battery, repair the display, clean from dust or diagnose malfunctions. However, disassembling this device is not as easy as it seems, the body is glued around the perimeter, and inside it is hidden fragile plumes and small mounts that are easily damaged if handled carelessly.
In this article, you will find a step-by-step photo guide, a list of tools you need, and key nuances to help avoid errors. We will also tell you which parts of the Redmi Note 8 are most vulnerable to disassembly and how to minimize risks. If you have never taken a smartphone apart before, carefully read all the warnings before you start work!
Preparation for disassembly: tools and precautions
Before you start, make sure you have everything you need, and if you don't have even one tool, you can damage the body or the internal components, and here's the minimum set.
- 🔧 Plastic mediators or shoulder blades (2-3 (S) for a careful sliding of the lid.
- 🔨 The screwdriver. PH00 — screw-hole.
- 🧲 Magnetic mat or container – to avoid losing small details.
- 🔥 Hair dryer or thermoair station - for softening the glue (optional, but recommended).
- 📱 Screen suction cup – will help remove the back cover.
- 🧴 Isopropyl alcohol (90%+) — post-disassembly.
Important: Redmi Note 8 has a glued body, so without heating the lid is extremely difficult to remove. If you do not have a hair dryer, you can use hot water in the bag (apply to the back for 2-3 minutes), but this is less efficient. Also prepare a clean workplace without carpets or fuzzy surfaces - small screws are easily lost!
⚠️ Warning: Do not use metal tools to lid the lid! Even a small scratch on an aluminum frame can become a source of corrosion. Plastic mediators must be thin (0.1-0.2 mm) and without barbs.
Step 1: Removing the back cover
This is the most critical stage. If you're not careful, you can break the plumes or break the latches.
- Turn off your smartphone and remove the tray for SIM-It's on the left side (when you look at the screen).
- Heat the back cover with a hair dryer for 2-3 minutes, keeping it at a distance of 5-7 cm. the Temperature should be 60-70 ° C - do not overheat!
- Suction the top of the lid (near the camera) and pull up. If the lid doesn't lend itself, reheat the edges.
- Put a plastic mediator in the gap and gently swipe it around the perimeter, separating the glue. Don't push too hard, there may be latches inside!
The Redmi Note 8 lid is not only attached to the glue, but also to the plastic clips on the sides. If you hear the crunch, it breaks the latches, in which case, collect all the fragments so that they do not fall inside the case.
☑️ Checklist before lid removal
After removing the cover, you will see:
- 🔋 Battery with connected plume.
- 📷 Main camera module (3 lenses) + depth-sensor).
- 📶 Antenna contacts around the perimeter.
- 🔧 10 screws, closed with protective film.
⚠️ Attention: Don't pull the lid too fast, because it's got a fingerprint scanner plume attached to it (below the top camera) and it's going to break the lid, and it's going to make the sensor inoperable!
Step 2: Disconnect the battery and remove the protective screen
Before any manipulations inside the case, be sure to turn off the battery, which will prevent short circuits when contacting the contacts accidentally.
- Carefully tuck the battery connector with a plastic spatula. It is located at the top of the battery (see photo below).
- Make sure the connector is out of the nest completely, so you can pull the black wire a little bit, but without effort.
- Remove the protective film from the screws (it is glued weakly, tuck with a nail or tweezers).
- Unscrew all 10 screws with a PH00 cross screwdriver. Remember their location, they're of different lengths!
There's a metal screen underneath the screws that protects the internal components from interference, and it's mounted on the latches -- pull it on either side and remove it. Be careful, there are thin plumes of the display and the sensor underneath the screen!

Step 3: Removing the motherboard
The Redmi Note 8 motherboard is fixed to 3 extra screws and a few latches to remove it:
- Disconnect all the plumes connected to the board: 📺 Display plume (wide, at the top). 🖱️ Touch glass plume (thin, next to the display). 🔊 Dynamics and microphone plume (at the bottom).
Unscrew the 3 screws holding the board (they can be hidden under stickers).
Put the board on the right side (on the side of the volume buttons) and gently raise it. It should come out effortlessly.
The camera plume is soldered to the board, you don't have to disconnect it! If the board doesn't lend itself, check if all the screws are twisted and the plumes are off. Don't force it, it can damage the contacts.

If the plumes are tightly seated in the connectors, use a plastic spatula to gently tamper with them.
Step 4: Replace the battery
The battery in the Redmi Note 8 is glued to the body with double-sided tape.
- Put a plastic blade on either side of the battery and pull it up. If it doesn't lend itself, heat the battery with a hair dryer (50-60°C).
- There's a plume under the battery. NFC-antennas (if your model supports the NFC). Take it off carefully if you plan to disassemble it completely.
- Install a new battery, having previously cleaned the landing site of glue residues with isopropyl alcohol.
The standard battery capacity of the Redmi Note 8 is 4000 mAh. When buying a replacement, pay attention to:

- 🔌 Type of connector (BTB connector is used in Note 8).

Even experienced craftsmen sometimes make mistakes when disassembling the Redmi Note 8.
- 🔧 The screws are pulled off because of the wrong screwdriver. Always check the size (PH00!).
- 🔋 Damage to the battery plume - you can not pull the wire, only carefully poke the connector.
- 📱 Break antenna contacts - they are located on the edges of the case and easily break off with careless removal of the cover.
- 🧲 Loss of screws – use a magnetic mat or container with cells.
