Xiaomi Redmi 4 (including Redmi 4A and Redmi 4X) is still a popular device years after its release, and its robust design and maintainability extend the life of the gadget by replacing the battery, speaker or screen. However, disassembling the case requires care: one wrong move can damage plumes, buttons or even the motherboard.
In this article, you'll find a step-by-step photo guide, a list of tools you need, and unique nuances of disassembling this particular model, from hidden latches to battery attachment features. We'll also show you how to avoid the typical errors that lead to connectors breaking or the loss of sealed housing. If you're planning a hand repair, this guide will help you get it right the first time.
Preparation for disassembly: tools and security measures
Before you start, make sure you have everything you need, and not even one tool can make a simple disassembly a nightmare: for example, without a suction cup, it is difficult to separate the screen, and without a mediator, it is easy to damage the plumes.
- π§ Plastic mediator (or guitar mediator) β to disconnect the body without scratches.
- 𧲠Suction (diameter 5-7 cm) - helps to undercut the front panel.
- βοΈ Screwdriver cross (PH00) β for the screws of the case and motherboard.
- π₯ Hair dryer or thermoair station - for softening the glue (optional, but recommended).
- π¦ Container for screws β so as not to lose small parts (for example, a magnetic substrate).
- 𧴠Isopropyl alcohol (90%+) β Cleaning contacts and removing glue residues.
β οΈ Note: If you are disassembling Redmi 4 with a faulty battery (blown or leaky), do not use metal tools - risk short circuit! In this case, it is better to contact the service center).
Step 1: Removing the back cover
The Xiaomi Redmi 4 body is glued around the perimeter, so the first thing to do is to carefully separate it. Start by heating the back with a hair dryer (a temperature of ~60Β°C) for 2-3 minutes, this will soften the glue.
- Apply the suction cup to the bottom of the case (near the Micro-USB connector).
- Pull the suction cup up with moderate effort to form a slit.
- Insert a plastic mediator into the slot and gently run them around the perimeter, separating the lid.
β οΈ Warning: Don't try to put a knife or screwdriver on the lid, it's almost guaranteed to leave scratches on the aluminum case. If the lid doesn't lend itself, reheat it with a hair dryer.
After removing the cover, you will see:
- π Battery (stick to the body).
- π± Motherboard (fixed with screws).
- πΆ Antenna contacts (thin gold stripes - don't touch them!).
βοΈ Checklist before lid removal
Step 2: Shutting off the battery
Before any manipulation with the insides, be sure to disconnect the battery.
- Carefully tuck the battery plume with a plastic spatula (it is under a black film).
- Disconnect the connector from the motherboard. It's locked with a latch, pull it up, and then take the plume out.
β οΈ Warning: If the battery is blown up (as seen by the bulge of the lid), do not try to remove it yourself - the risk of fire.
Once the battery is turned off, you can start removing the motherboard, but first we recommend taking a picture of all the plumes and screws, which will make it easier to reverse assemble.
What to do if the battery drains?
Step 3: Withdrawal of the motherboard
The Redmi 4 motherboard is mounted on 8-10 screws (depending on the modification), which must be twisted with a PH00 cross screwdriver, folded into a container to avoid confusion.
- π Screws under the screen are shorter than under the battery β donβt confuse them!
- π‘ There are antenna contacts under the board - do not bend them.
- π Camera connectors and dynamics are fragile - pull the plumes carefully.
After removing the screws, put the board with a plastic blade on the edge and raise it. If the board does not move, check if all the plumes are disconnected (often forgetting the Power Button plume).
| Element | Number of screws | Type of screwdriver. | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maternity fee | 8β10 | PH00 | Rotors of different lengths! |
| Dynamician | 2 | PH00 | Fixing up on bilateral scotch |
| Camera. | 1 | PH00 | The plume is very fragile. |
| Activation button | 0 | β | It's on the latches. |
π‘
If the screw is licked and doesn't spin, put some superglue on it, press the screwdriver and let it dry for 1-2 minutes, and then the screw usually succumbs.
Step 4: Disassemble the front panel and screen
Redmi 4's screen is glued to a frame, so removing it is the hardest step. If you're disassembling a phone to replace the display, be prepared to heat the case to 70 to 80Β°C and use a fishing line or a special tool to separate the layers.
Procedure:
- Heat the screen with a hairdryer around the perimeter (do not stay in one place for longer than 10 seconds!).
- Insert a line or mediator in the gap between the screen and the frame.
- Carefully run the line around the perimeter, separating the glue.
β οΈ Attention: If the screen cracks, wear safety glasses and gloves - glass fragments can hurt. Also, do not press the matrix - this can damage the liquid crystals.
After removing the screen, you will have access to:
- π Touchscreen plume (thin, white).
- π Upper dynamics (attached to bilateral scotch).
- π· Front camera and light sensor.
π‘
If the screen doesn't separate despite the heat, don't apply force -- you've probably missed the glue patch. Reheat and try again.
Step 5: Replacing the battery β nuances and errors
The battery in Redmi 4 is one of the most vulnerable, and after 2-3 years of operation, it loses up to 30-40% of its capacity, and sometimes swells.
- Disconnect the battery plume (as described above).
- Put a plastic blade on the edge of the battery, and it's glued, so it takes a lot of effort.
- If the battery fails, heat the body with a hairdryer (not higher than 60Β°C!) or use isopropyl alcohol to dissolve the glue.
β οΈ Warning: The new battery should be the same capacity (4100 mAh for the Redmi 4) and with a similar connector. Cheap counterparts may not fit in size or cause charging problems.
After installing the new battery:
- π Connect the plume to the motherboard.
- π Make sure it is straight in the grooves (without skewing).
- π© Secure it with double-sided tape (comes complete with a new battery).
How to check a new battery before installation?
Building a phone: reverse order and testing
To build Xiaomi Redmi 4 you need to reverse the order, but with a few rules:
- Before installing the screen, clean the frame from glue residues with isopropyl alcohol.
- Twisting the screws cross-cross to avoid skewed boards.
- After assembly, check all the functions: camera, speakers, sensor, buttons.
β οΈ Note: If the phone does not turn on after assembly, check:
- π Is the battery connected (sometimes the plume falls out during assembly).
- π© Whether all screws are twisted (untwisted screw can close contacts).
- π± Is the Power Button plume damaged (a common problem with careless assembly).
If everything works, but the screen is moving away at the edges, use the B-7000 glue to seal it, apply it in a thin layer and press the screen for 10-15 minutes.
