Why Xiaomiβs smart scales might not be included?
Xiaomi smart scales (including the Mi Smart Scale 2, Xiaomi Body Composition Scale 2 and Mi Body Fat Scale) are usually reliable, but even they sometimes refuse to turn on. If your gadget does not respond to presses, does not display data on the screen or is completely dead, do not rush to throw it out or carry it to the service. In 80% of cases, the problem can be solved by yourself in 10 to 30 minutes.
The main reasons range from the banal (discharged batteries) to the technical (contact damage or firmware failure). It is important to approach diagnostics systematically: start with the simplest tests and gradually move to more complex manipulations. In this article, we will analyze all possible scenarios, including those that are not mentioned in the official instructions.
Note that if Xiaomi scales are turned on but not synced with a smartphone, thatβs another problem with Bluetooth or the Mi Fit app.
1. Checking the power supply - where to start
The most common cause of weight loss is a battery that is either dead or incorrectly installed. Even if you're sure it's been changed recently, start at this point. Xiaomi models use AAA (4) or CR2032 (compact versions).
How to check:
- π Remove the batteries and inspect them for corrosion or leaks. If there's white plaque on the contacts, it's oxidation that blocks the current.
- π Change the batteries in places (if you use 4 pieces), sometimes one dead battery "pulls" the entire circuit.
- π Check the voltage with a multimeter: AAA the rate of 1.2-1.5 in each, for CR2032 β 2.8β3.2.
- π Install new batteries (preferably alkaline batteries like Duracell or Energizer) and cheap salt batteries often don't provide the right current.
If you've got a weight after you've changed, but it's discharged quickly, the problem may be that you short the inside of the device, and you'll need to disassemble it.
β οΈ Never use rechargeable batteries (Ni-MH) in Xiaomi scales β their voltage (1.2 V) is below the threshold for the correct operation of the device.
Contacts and fees: hidden defects
If the batteries are fine but the scales are still off, the problem may be oxidized contacts or board damage, which is true for devices that have been operated in wet conditions (such as the bathroom).
How to diagnose:
- π Disassemble the case (neatly tuck the latches with a plastic card or mediator). Most Xiaomi models have screwless mounts.
- 𧽠Clean the contacts of the battery compartment with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol or vinegar (to remove oxides).
- π§ Check the soldering on the board: often pass the contact sensors or buttons on. If you see cracks on the tracks, it's a sign of mechanical damage.
- π§ If there are white stains on the board, this is corrosion that can be removed with a special spray (for example, Kontakt 60).
If the scales didn't work after cleaning, try to force the contacts of the battery compartment to be closed with a screwdriver for 2-3 seconds, sometimes this "wakes up" the device after a deep discharge.
What to do if you see chips on the board?
| Symptoms. | Probable cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Libra does not respond to pressing, the screen is empty | Discharged batteries or oxidized contacts | Battery replacement + contact cleaning |
| Short-term on and off | Unstable power supply (one battery is dead) | Replacement of all batteries with new ones |
| Libras are on, but they go out immediately. | Short circuit on the board or damage to sensors | Disassembly and visual inspection of the fee |
| The screen is flashing, but the data is not displayed. | Firmware failure or damage to the display plume | Resetting or flashing |
3. Setting reset - soft and hard reboot
If Xiaomi scales are not turned on due to a software glitch (for example, after a failed firmware update), a reset will help. Unlike smartphones, there is no Reset button here, but there are alternative ways.
Mild discharge:
- Remove the batteries for 5-10 minutes.
- Then put them back in the back and put them back in the back.
- Wait 30 seconds β the device should restart.
Hard reset (for models with a button):
- π Press and hold the on button (usually under the Mi logo) for 15-20 seconds.
- π If there is no button, try pressing all 4 corners of the platform at the same time (this simulates a hardware reset).
After resetting the scales may require re-synchronization with the Mi Fit application. If the soft reset does not help, and the hard one is not provided by the design, only the flashing remains (more about this below).
π‘
If Xiaomi's scales show an E1 or E2 error after reset, it indicates a faulty weight sensor.Try to push evenly on all corners of the platform - sometimes this helps to "wake up" the sensors.
4.Reflashing Xiaomi's scales - when nothing helps
A firmware failure is a rare but critical problem, and it can occur after an interrupted update via Mi Fit or because of a factory defect, in which case the scales can turn on for a second and go out or show no signs of life at all.
You'll need to flash it back:
- π» Windows computer (or Mac with emulator).
- π USB-Type-C Cable (for models with connector) or adapter for connecting to the board.
- π Firmware for your model (you can download it on the forums) 4PDA Xiaomi Community).
- π MiFlash or Fastboot Tools.
Step-by-step:
- Connect the scales to the PC through a cable (if there is no connector - you will have to solder the wires to the contact board).
- Run MiFlash and select the downloaded firmware (.tgz or.img).
- Press Refresh β the program must define the device as COM-port.
- Press Flash and wait for the process to end (5-10 minutes).
β οΈ Warning: Wrong firmware can permanently kill the device.Make sure the firmware file matches the exact model of your scales (number listed on the sticker under the batteries).
Download the firmware for your model|Install Qualcomm or Mediatek drivers|Prepare a cable with a soldering iron (if there is no connector)|Make a backup of data (if the scales are at least somehow turned on)|Disable the antivirus (it can block MiFlash)-->
5 Mechanical damage β when repair is not possible
If Xiaomi scales fell from a height, were hit or put objects heavier than 150 kg (the limit for most models), could be damaged:
- π§ Weight sensors (tensometric sensors).
- π₯ Display plume (if the screen flashes but does not show data).
- π Contacts of the fee (withdraws on impacts).
Diagnosis:
- Light a flashlight on the screen β if you see a dim image, the problem is in the backlight or plume.
- Press each angle of the scale in turn, and if you press one of the corners, the screen flashes, the sensor in this quadrant is broken.
- Shake the scales - if you hear a knock, inside a piece broke off (for example, mounting the board).
In such cases, home repair is unlikely. The cost of replacing sensors or boards in the service may exceed the price of new weights. The exception is the premium segment models (for example, Xiaomi Smart Scale 2 Pro), where the replacement of the board costs 1.5-2 thousand rubles.
π‘
If Xiaomi scales stopped turning on after a fall, and there are cracks on the case, there is a 90% probability that the board or sensors are damaged, in which case it is more cost effective to buy new scales than to repair old ones.
6.Mi Fit application problems and synchronization
Sometimes Xiaomi scales are not turned on because of hardware problems, but because of a conflict with the application.
- π± In Mi Fit hangs the process of updating the firmware.
- π The device is linked to another account (for example, after a phone reset).
- π« The application is blocked by a firewall or VPN.
How to fix it:
- Remove the scales from the device list in Mi Fit (Profile β My devices β Delete).
- Reinstall the application and log in again.
- Turn off the VPN and check the permissions for Mi Fit in your phone settings (Settings β Applications β Mi Fit β Permissions).
- Update the firmware of the scales through Mi Fit (if they react to the inclusion in any way).
If after these manipulations the scales worked, but stopped turning on again after a day or two, the problem may be in the unstable firmware, in which case the rollback to the previous version of the software (the instructions are on thematic forums) will help.
7. When to contact the service - checklist before the visit
If all of the above methods have failed, you have to go to the service center, so you don't have to waste your time, check:
Libras are not exactly turned on (tried different batteries)?|There are no visible damages on the board (splints, scorchs)?|You tried resetting and flashing?|You have a check or a guarantee card?|You have saved the box and components (if the scales are guaranteed)?-->
Cost of repair in unofficial services:
- π§ Replacement of the battery compartment β 500-800 β½.
- π₯ Replacement of fees β 1,500β3,000 β½ (model-wise).
- π Flashing - 1,000-1,500 β½.
Xiaomiβs official service in Russia is operated through partners (e.g. Xiaomi Service Center in Moscow and St. Petersburg), and the scale warranty is usually 12 months, but it does not cover mechanical damage or damage from moisture.
β οΈ Note: If Xiaomi scales are purchased on AliExpress or from unofficial sellers, the warranty may not apply.
