Why Xiaomi phone can't boot up?
The situation when Xiaomi smartphone (be it Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 or flagship Xiaomi 14) refuses to turn on or gets stuck on the MI logo, familiar to many users. the reasons for this behavior can range from software failures to hardware malfunctions. In 80% of cases, the problem is solved without visiting the service center, it is enough to correctly diagnose the source of the problem.
The most common reasons are:
- π A discharged battery or a faulty power supply (even if the indicator shows charging).
- π± Firmware failure after failed update MIUI or manual intervention.
- 𧩠Application conflict, especially after installing custom ROM modified APK.
- π₯ Hardware damage: falling, moisture, overheating of the Snapdragon or Mediatek processor.
- π Freeze in Fastboot mode due to interrupted firmware or incorrect use ADB.
Before you panic, check the charging indicator: if the cable lights up red/orange LED, the problem is more software. If there is no reaction at all, it may be defective. USB-The port or the power controller, and in this section, we'll go through diagnostics, and then we'll go into specific solutions.

Step 1: Checking Power and Charging
Start with the basic diagnostics, the power supply, and even if you're sure the battery is charged, do the following:
- Change the cable and adapter. Use Xiaomi's original power supply (or Quick Charge 3.0/4.0 certified). Cheap cables often don't provide enough current to run a discharged battery.
- Connect to another source: an outlet, a power bank, or a computer. A USB 3.0 port on a PC gives more current than USB 2.0.
- Hold on charging for 30 to 60 minutes. If the battery is completely discharged, the indicator may not light up immediately.
- Check the charging port for debris or oxidation. Clean it carefully with a toothpick (not a metal object!).
β οΈ Warning: If the Xiaomi phone overheats while charging (the body gets hot), immediately turn it off. This may indicate a malfunction of the power controller or short circuit in the battery!

The charging port is clean and undamaged
The phone is connected to charging for more than 30 minutes

If you're still not showing any signs of life after this manipulation, then move on to the next step, except if you've had a smartphone fall in the water or have been subjected to severe mechanical stress, you can make the damage worse.
Step 2: Forced Reset (Hard Reset)
If Xiaomi is stuck on the MI logo or download screen, try to force it to restart, which works even in case of serious system failures, as it does not affect user data.
Instructions for most Xiaomi/Redmi/POCO models:
- Press and hold the power button + increase volume at the same time.
- Hold for 10-15 seconds until the screen goes out and the phone vibrates.
- Release the buttons and wait 30 seconds. The phone needs to reboot.
Older models (e.g. Redmi 4X, Mi A1) may require a power + volume combination, and if it doesnβt work, try holding the power button for 20 to 30 seconds.
What to do if the phone vibrates but does not turn on?
β οΈ Warning: Don't confuse Hard Reset with Factory Reset, the first method is data-safe, the second method will delete everything from internal memory!
Step 3: Download in Safe Mode
If the Xiaomi phone turns on but shuts down or reboots cyclically, the problem may be a conflicting app or virus, and Safe Mode allows you to boot a system with third-party programs disabled.
How to log in to Safe Mode:
- Turn off your phone (forced if it doesnβt respond).
- Press the power button and hold until the MI logo appears.
- As soon as the logo appears, immediately press and hold the volume button.
- Release it only after the system is fully loaded, and the Safe mode text should appear in the lower left corner.
In safe mode:
- π Check if the phone is stable. If so, there's a problem in one of the apps installed.
- π± Remove recently installed programs (especially from unverified sources).
- π‘οΈ Run an antivirus (e.g. Mi Security or Dr.Web).
- π Restart your phone in normal mode.
If the phone is also unstable in Safe Mode, the cause may be damage to system files or a hardware failure (such as RAM).
π‘
If you canβt log in to Safe Mode the first time, try using the power + both volume buttons at the same time. On some models (e.g. POCO F3), this works better.
Step 4: Reset to Factory Reset
If previous methods didnβt work, and the phone does respond to buttons, try resetting it, which will remove all data from internal memory, but often saves you if you have serious software failures.
There are two ways to discharge:
Method 1: Recovery Menu
- Turn off the phone.
- Press the power + increase the volume before the MI logo appears.
- Release the buttons when the Recovery Mode menu appears (usually in English or Chinese).
- Use volume buttons for navigation and power button for selection.
- Select Wipe Data β Wipe All Data (or similar).
- Confirm the action and wait for the process to be completed.
- Choose Reboot. β Reboot to System.
Method 2: Fastboot (if Recovery is not available)
If the Recovery menu doesnβt load or the phone shuts down immediately, try resetting via Fastboot:
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot rebootYou will need a computer with installed Xiaomi drivers and the Mi Flash Tool program.
π‘
Resetting to factory settings deletes all data, including photos, contacts and apps. If the phone was previously synced with Mi Account, some of the data (contacts, notes) can be restored after logging in to the account.
β οΈ Note: On some models (Redmi Note 9 Pro, POCO X3) After reset, you may need to enter the Mi Account data associated with the device. If you do not remember the password, unlocking will not be possible without contacting Xiaomi in support!
Step 5: Fastboot Fastboot Fastboot Fastboot Fastboot
If the reset doesn't work and the phone still doesn't load, you just have to reflash it through Fastboot, which is a method that's suitable for cases where:
- π± The phone is stuck on the logo. MI after a failed update.
- π Cyclical reboot (bootloop).
- π« Impossible to log in to Recovery Mode.
You'll need firmware.
- π» Windows computer (Windows recommended) 10/11).
- π Cable USB Type-C (original).
- π Fastboot firmware ROM For your model (download from the official website of Xiaomi or Xiaomi Firmware Updater).
- π οΈ Mi Flash Tool (last version).
Step-by-step:
- Unpack the firmware archive into a folder without Cyrillic characters (e.g., C:\Xiaomi\ROM).
- Install the Mi Flash Tool and Xiaomi drivers.
- Turn off your phone and press the power + volume down to log into Fastboot Mode.
- Connect your phone to your PC. The Android Bootloader Interface should appear in the Device Manager.
- In the Mi Flash Tool, click Select and specify the path to the firmware folder.
- Select Clean All (complete clean) or Clean All and Lock (if you want to lock the bootloader).
- Press Flash and wait until it is completed (usually 5-10 minutes).
- After successful firmware, the phone will restart automatically.
| Xiaomi model | Firmware version | Download link | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+ | MIUI 14 (Android 13) | Official website | Requires unlocking of the loader |
| POCO X5 Pro | MIUI 14 (Android 12) | POCO page | Supports Fastboot and Recovery Firmware |

| Redmi 10A | MIUI 13 (Android 11) | Official website | Firmware without unlocking the loader |
β οΈ Note: Fastboot resets all data and can block the bootloader if you select Clean All and Lock. If the phone was unlocked bootloader, after firmware it will have to unlock again through the Mi Unlock Tool.
Step 6: Diagnostics of hardware malfunctions
If all the software methods have been tried, but the Xiaomi phone still doesn't turn on, the reason is probably hardware.
- π Faulty battery: bloating, short circuit, loss of capacity.
- π§ Moisture: Even if the phone hasnβt sunk, condensation or high humidity can cause corrosion on the board.
- π₯ CPU overheating: often occurs after games or using resource-intensive applications against a clogged cooler.
- π± Display plume damage: screen doesn't turn on, but phone vibrates and makes sounds.
- π Faulty. USB-port: phone does not charge but can switch on from wireless charging (if supported).
Self-diagnosis:
- Check the charging response: if the indicator flashes red, there is a battery problem.
- Light a flashlight on the screen: if you see a dim image in the dark, the illumination is faulty.
- Listen to the sounds: if you hear clicks or vibrations when you press the buttons, the motherboard is not the problem.
- Connect to a PC: If the computer makes the deviceβs connection sound, the phone is partially operational.
If you don't have experience in electronics repair, it's not recommended to disassemble the phone yourself.Modern Xiaomi smartphones (especially with the help of a new smartphone). AMOLED-They have fragile plumes and are easily damaged by careless handling:
| Type of malfunction | Cost of repair (β½) | Time (days) |
|---|---|---|
| Battery replacement | 1 500 β 3 000 | 1 |
| Repairs USB-port | 2 000 β 4 500 | 1β2 |
| Replacement of the display (with touchscreen) | 5 000 β 15 000 | 1β3 |
| Diagnosis of the motherboard | 1 000 β 2 500 | 1β5 |
| Cleaning for moisture/oxidation | 3 000 β 8 000 | 2β7 |
β οΈ Note: If the Xiaomi phone was under warranty, do not disassemble it yourself - this will void warranty obligations.
Step 7: Contact the Service Center
If none of these methods worked, and the phone still doesn't turn on, all that remains is professional diagnostics. Before you take the device to the workshop, prepare the following information:
- π Model phone (written on a box or under a battery).
- π Circumstances of failure: whether it fell, wet, updated before failure.
- π± Signs of life: whether vibrating, warms, reacts to charging.
- π What you have tried: flashing, resetting, replacing the cable, etc.
Where to look for Xiaomi service centers:
- π Official website: mi.com/service (Choose a country and a city).
- π Maps. Google/Yandex: Enter the request βXiaomi Service Center [your city]Β».
- π οΈ Forums: at 4PDA or MIUI SU Often recommended by the tested workshops.
The cost of repair depends on the model and type of malfunction. For example, replacing the motherboard with the Xiaomi 13 Pro can cost 20,000-30,000. β½, while on Redmi 9A β 5,000 to 8,000 β½. If your phone is older than 3 years, it is sometimes cheaper to buy a new one than to repair the old one.
