Why itβs important to know the exact model of your Xiaomi laptop
Did you buy a Xiaomi laptop from your hands, lose the box, or just forget the model? Without the exact name of the model, you can't download the right drivers, order parts, or even sell the device at an adequate price. For example, the battery from the Mi Notebook Pro 15.6" 2020 will not be suitable for the RedmiBook 14 II, although they look similar. And the firmware for the POCO Laptop can block the Mi Notebook Air 12.5. "
The manufacturer produces dozens of modifications under the brands Mi Notebook, RedmiBook and POCO, which differ only by a couple of characters in the name (for example, MWD-WXX9 vs MWD-WAX9). Error in one letter - and you risk downloading incompatible software or buying the wrong part. In this article, we will discuss the 7 reliable ways to find out a model of a Xiaomi laptop even without a box and a check.
The methods range from the simplest to the most technically complex. Start with the first one, you may not have to go through the system utilities.
Method 1: Looking for a model on the laptop body
The fastest method is to inspect the device's body, and Xiaomi places identification stickers in three standard places:
- π¦ The bottom cover is usually under the battery or next to the vents. Look for a white or silver sticker with fine print.
- π Under the battery β if the battery is removable (relevant to older Mi Notebook Air models).
- π In the RAM bay β some RedmiBooks have a sticker hidden under the cover RAM.
On the sticker, look for lines that begin with:
- Model No. or Model Name is the full name (e.g. Mi Notebook Pro 15.6" MX150).
- P/N or Part Number is an internal article (e.g., MWD-WXX9).
- S/N is the serial number (you can find the model by using Xiaomi support).
β οΈ Warning: Some laptops POCO have the main sticker hidden under the rubber legs, and carefully tuck them in with a plastic card to avoid damage.
π‘
If the sticker is erased, take a picture of it from different angles with the flash turned on β sometimes the symbols appear in the photo better than when you visually inspect it.
| Location | Example of data | For which models are relevant |
|---|---|---|
| Lower cover (centre) | Model: MWD-WXX9Mi Notebook Pro 15.6" | Mi Notebook Pro, RedmiBook 14/16 |
| Under the battery. | P/N: NBK-MA125S/N: XM190412345678 | Mi Notebook Air 12.5", Mi Notebook 14 |
| RAM's in the bay. | Model Name: JYU4297CN | RedmiBook Pro 14/15 |
Method 2: Check the model in BIOS/UFEI
If the sticker is not available or is not readable, check the BIOS, which works even on faulty laptops (if they are switched on).
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press the F2 key (or Del for some RedmiBooks) and press the power button.
- Hold on to F2 until the BIOS blue screen appears.
In the BIOS, look for tabs:
- π Main β is a product name or system model.
- π§ Advanced β System Information.
For example, in Mi Notebook Pro 15.6" 2020, the BIOS displays: Product Name: Mi Notebook Pro 15.6" (MWD-WXX9).
β οΈ Warning: Do not change settings in BIOS unless you are sure of their purpose. Incorrect settings may cause the system to fail.

Method 3: Use Windows system utilities
If the laptop is good and it's running Windows, you can find out the model through the built-in tools.
1. Through System Information (msinfo32)
Press Win + R, enter msinfo32 and press Enter. In the window that opens, find the lines:
- System model (e.g. Mi Notebook Pro 15.6)
- System identifier (MWD-WXX9).
2. Through the Command Line (CMD)
Open the CMD (not required on behalf of the administrator) and type:
wmic csproduct get name, identifyingnumberIn response, you will get two lines: the name of the model and its article.
3. Through PowerShell
Start PowerShell and do:
Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_ComputerSystem | Select-Object ModelIf system utilities show an incomplete name (for example, only Mi Notebook without numbers), use the article (identifying number) to search for the exact model in Google.
Method 4: Verification through Device Manager
Device Manager can give you a model if you can't see it in other utilities.
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Open the System Devices branch.
- Find a device called an ACPI x64-based PC or the like.
- Click on it with the right button β Properties β Information tab.
- In the drop-down menu, select the equipment ID.
In the list, look for lines containing VEN_ and DEV_. Copy them and type them on the PCI Lookup site - this will help identify the model of the chipset, and from it - the laptop itself.
β οΈ Warning: This method doesnβt work on all Xiaomi models, but it can help if other methods donβt work. For example, for a RedmiBook 16 with an Intel H470 chipset, a search on VEN_8086 and DEV_9B63 will give you an accurate motherboard model.
Method 5: Official utilities from Xiaomi
Xiaomi is launching proprietary software for device diagnostics, the most useful utilities:
- π§ Mi PC Suite β shows the model of the laptop in the Device section.
- π οΈ Xiaomi Service Tool is a diagnostic service utility (requires registration with Mi Account) that displays complete data, including serial number and production date.
To use the Xiaomi Service Tool:
- Download the utility from the support page (select the Notebook section).
- Connect your laptop to the Internet and start the program.
- Enter your Mi Account details (if not registered, create an account).
- Go to the Device Info section, and there will be a Model line with the full name.
The serial number in the Xiaomi Service Tool contains encrypted information about the release date and the region of sale. For example, if the S/N starts with the XM2103, the laptop released in March 2021.
Download the utility from the official website|Connect your laptop to the Internet|Registering for Mi Account|Disable antivirus (can block access)|Launch the program on behalf of the administrator-->
Method 6: Determination of model by serial number (S/N)
If you find a serial number (on a sticker or in the BIOS), it can be decrypted or checked through Xiaomi support. The Xiaomi serial number usually has the format:
XM [Year] [Month] [Plant] [Ordinary Number]
Examples:
- XM200512345678 β released in May 2020.
- XM211298765432 β released in December 2021.
To find out the model by S/N:
- Go to the Xiaomi Support website.
- Select the Notebook section.
- Enter the serial number in the search box or click Check Warranty.
- The system will show the model, the date of activation and the status of the warranty.
β οΈ Warning: If the serial number starts with NBK or MDZ, it may not be the original Xiaomi, but a clone or device for the Chinese market (requires verification through the Xiaomi Service Tool).
Method 7: Visual identification by external signs
If no technical methods have helped, try to define the model by the external features. Xiaomi uses unique design solutions for each line:
| Linea | Distinctive features | Example of model |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Notebook Air | Thin metal case (12.5" or 13.3"), lack of numerical block on the keyboard, silver color. | Mi Notebook Air 12.5" (2018) |
| Mi Notebook Pro | 15.6" or 14" screen, keyboard highlighting, Mi logo on the cover, HDMI + USB-C ports. | Mi Notebook Pro 15.6" (MWD-WXX9) |
| RedmiBook | Redmi logo, plastic case (on budget models), screen 14"/16", often without keyboard highlighting. | RedmiBook 16 (JYU4301CN) |
| POCO Laptop | Black matte case, POCO logo on the lid, often with a discrete NVIDIA graphics card. | POCO Laptop 15.6" (PCLG001) |
Also note:
- π Port location: Mi Notebook Pro USB-C on the right, RedmiBook 14 on the left.
- πΉ Keyboard: Backlights are only available in Pro versions.
- π₯οΈ Screen frames: Newer models (2022+) have frames thinner than 5 mm.

If the laptop is purchased on AliExpress or in an unofficial store, visual identification can be unreliable - Chinese clones often copy the design of Xiaomi. In this case, use only technical methods.BIOS, serial number.
