In this article, you can find a step-by-step photo guide, a list of tools you need, tips for choosing a quality battery and answers to frequent questions, and we will also explain how to avoid errors that lead to damage to plumes or motherboards.
β οΈ Warning: Replacing the battery will void the warranty (if it is still valid) and may result in data loss if the plumes are unwarranted. If you are unsure of your skills, you should contact the service.
Signs that it is time to change the battery
Itβs not always obvious that the battery is the problem, but here are the key symptoms that indicate wear and tear on the Xiaomi Mi 4X battery:
π Fast discharge: The phone lasts less than 4-5 hours in moderate use (previously lasted 1-2 days), which is due to a decrease in the actual battery capacity to 60-70% of the factory capacity.
β‘ Accidental shutdowns: The device shuts down at 20 to 40 percent charge, and then it turns on at 0.5 percent, which is a sign of unstable voltage due to degradation of the battery.
π Bloating. If the back cover or screen starts to "go away" and the body becomes convex, that's a critical signal. A bloated battery could damage the motherboard or the screen!
π₯ Overheating when charging. The battery heats up a lot even when using the original RAM. It's dangerous, the risk of fire increases dramatically.
- β Don't ignore bloating! The battery can burst or ignite.
- β οΈ If the phone stopped turning on after a fall, the problem may not be in the battery, but in the disconnected plume.
- π§ Before replacing, check Settings β Battery β Battery status. If the capacity is below 80%, it's time to act.
What battery to choose for Xiaomi Mi 4X?
There are hundreds of offers on the market, but not all batteries are of the same quality.
π Original vs. analogue: Official Xiaomi batteries cost 1,200-1,800 rubles, but they are difficult to find - the brand rarely sells parts directly. Alternative - certified counterparts from Baseus, Remax or Patona (price 800-1,300 rubles).
π Capacity. Factory battery is 4100 mAh. Some vendors offer 5,000-6,000 mAh batteries, but that's a hoax: the actual capacity of these batteries rarely exceeds 3,500 mAh.
π Connector type: The Mi 4X uses a 3-pin plume (not to be confused with the 4-pin one on newer models). Check the photo of the connector before buying!
π‘οΈ Counterfeiting protection. The original battery must have:
- πΉ Hologram with serial number.
- πΉ Date of production (not older than 1-2 years).
- πΉ QR- code that can be checked on the Xiaomi website.
| Parameter | Original | Quality analogue | Cheap fake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price, β½ | 1200β1800 | 800β1300 | 400β700 |
| Capacity, mahh | 4100 | 4000β4100 | 2500β3500 |
| Guarantee | 6β12 months | 3β6 months | Absent. |
| Term of service | 2β3 years | 1-2 years | 3β6 months |
π‘ Where to buy? Proven sites:
- π AliExpress (stores with a rating of 98%+ and reviews with photos).
- π Beru/Ozon (Look for sellers with a warranty).
- π Local service centers (sometimes wholesale parts).
π‘
Before you buy, ask the seller to send a photo of the battery with a hologram and a production date. Counterfeiting often has a blurred font or a QR- code curve.
Battery replacement tools
Without the right tools, you're at risk of damaging plumes or the body.
- π§ Plastic blades (2-3 pieces) for careful smearing of the cover and plumes.
- βοΈ The screwdriver of the cross (PH00) is for the screws of the body.
- π₯ Hair dryer or thermo-air station (for softening glue).
- 𧲠Magnetic mat or screw container (so as not to lose).
- π©Ή Insulation tape - to fix the new battery.
- π Power Bank β to keep the phone from turning off while youβre working.
β οΈ Warning: Don't use metal blades -- they can close contacts on the board! Also avoid Chinese sets with cheap screwdrivers -- they lick the screws.
π Where do I buy the tools?
- On AliExpress (a set for repairing smartphones costs 300-800 β½).
- In radio stores (such as Chip and Deep).
- In service centers (sometimes rented).
What do you do if you don't have a hair dryer?
Step-by-step instructions for replacing the battery
Before starting work, turn off your phone completely and remove the SIM- card. Follow the instructions carefully - errors at any stage can lead to breakage.
Step 1: Removing the back cover
π₯ Heat the back end edge with a hair dryer (especially near the buttons and camera) for 1-2 minutes. The glue will become softer and the cover will be removed more easily.
πͺ Insert a plastic blade into the gap between the body and the lid (start at the bottom edge where the charging connector is). Carefully drive the blade around the perimeter, separating the lid. Don't force - if the lid doesn't lend itself, warm up again.
β οΈ Warning: Under the lid are the fingerprint scanner plumes and the antenna. Don't pull the lid abruptly -- first unplug them!
Step 2: Turn off the plumes
π οΈ Unscrew 6 screws (they can be of different lengths - remember where you were!) Remove the metal plate covering the plumes.
π Carefully disconnect:
- πΆ The antenna plume (top left corner).
- π The fingerprint scanner plume (under the battery).
- π Main battery connector.
Use a plastic spatula to fit the connectors on the side, not on top!
Step 3: Remove the old battery
π₯ Reheat the battery with a hair dryer (60-80Β°C) to soften the glue. Put a blade on either side of the battery and slowly pull up. If the glue doesn't lend itself, use a thread or a guitar string to cut through it.
β οΈ Warning: Don't puncture the battery! This could cause a fire or an explosion. If the battery is swelling, wear gloves and safety glasses.
βοΈ Checklist before removing the battery
Step 4: Installation of a new battery
π§Ή Remove the residue of old glue from the case (alcohol or acetone may be used). Stick the new battery onto double-sided tape or insulation tape.
π Connect the battery connector to the motherboard, make sure the contacts fit tightly, or the phone won't charge.
Step 5: Assembly of the phone
π Repeat the steps in reverse order:
- Roll up the metal plate.
- Connect antenna plumes and fingerprint scanner.
- Install the back cover, warming it with a hair dryer for better fixation.
- Turn the screws (do not pull!).
β After assembly, turn on the phone and check:
- π Charge (plug the ROM).
- πΆ Network signal and Wi-Fi.
- π Fingerprint scanner operation.
π‘
If the phone doesn't turn on after the replacement, check the battery plume connection and the contacts on the motherboard. In 90% of cases, the problem is poor contact!
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Even the skilled craftsmen sometimes make mistakes, and here are the most common mistakes and ways to prevent them:
π§ Slimped screws. Use a good screwdriver and don't use too much force. If the screw doesn't unscrew, drop WD-40 or alcohol.
π Damaged plumes. Never pull the plumes behind the wires! Take just the plastic connector and peel it up from the side.
π₯ Overheating the battery. Don't heat it for longer than 2-3 minutes, and don't use an open fire. The optimum temperature is 60-80 Β°C.
π± A broken fingerprint scanner, which means that the plume is not connected correctly or damaged, check the contacts and replace the plume if necessary (costs 200-400 β½).
- β Don't use superglue! It can damage the board on the next repair.
- β οΈ If the phone overheats after the replacement, it is likely that the battery is unoriginal or poorly glued.
- π If the new battery capacity in Settings β The battery shows less than 4000 mAh β it must be calibrated (discharged to 0% and charged to 100% 2-3 times).
Calibration of the new battery
Even the original battery may show an incorrect charge level after installation.
π Method 1 (programme).
- Charge the phone to 100%.
- Turn off charging and use the phone until it turns off automatically.
- Connect RAM and charge for at least 8 hours (even if the indicator shows 100%).
- Repeat the cycle 2-3 times.
π οΈ Method 2 (via Engineering Mode)
- Enter the code ##4636##.
- Select Battery Information.
- Press Battery calibration (if available).
Note:
β οΈ Warning: If the phone still shows a wrong charge after calibration, the problem may be the power controller on the motherboard, in which case repairs are needed in the service.
How much does it cost to replace the battery in the service?
If you don't want to take risks, go to the service center, and the prices depend on the region and the type of battery:
| Type of service | Cost of work, β½ | Cost of battery cost, β½ | Totally, β½ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official Xiaomi service | 1500β2500 | 1200β1800 | 2700β4300 |
| Local service centre | 800β1500 | 800β1300 | 1600β2800 |
| Private Master (Avito, Yula) | 500β1000 | 700β1200 | 1200β2200 |
π° Tip: Before contacting the service, specify:
- πΉ Does a work warranty and battery give?
- πΉ Do they use original parts?
- πΉ Will the phone keep the data?
β οΈ Warning: Some services may offer "free diagnostics" and then name an overpriced price.
