The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is one of the brandβs most popular smartphones, but even it has a vulnerability: the power button. It can eventually fail due to mechanical wear, moisture or factory defects. If your phone stops responding to the press of a physical button, donβt rush it to the service center: in 80% of cases, the phone can be turned on in alternative ways.
In this article, we will discuss all working methods for launching the Redmi Note 7 without a power button, from the simplest (connect to charging) to advanced (using ADB and Fastboot), and learn how to prevent repeated failures and what to do if none of the methods worked. All instructions are tested on current versions of MIUI (including MIUI 14) and are suitable for the Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro models.
Before you start, check:
- π Battery charged (minimum charge) 10-15%) β The battery will block any attempts to turn on.
- π Cable and charger are good β try another RAM with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
- π οΈ There are no physical damages (cracks, dents) on the phone β they may indicate more serious malfunctions.
Initiation via charger
The easiest way to do this is to use the automatic power-on feature when you connect to power. On the Redmi Note 7, it works by default, but only if you meet two conditions:
- π΄ The phone was switched off correctly (not discharged to 0% or got stuck).
- π The battery has a sufficient charge (from 5%).
Instructions:
- Connect your smartphone to the original charger (or Quick Charge compatible).
- Wait 5-10 minutes β the charging animation should appear on the screen.
- If the screen remains black, try holding the volume button for 10-15 seconds.
π‘
If the phone does not respond to charging, try connecting it to the computer through USB-And sometimes it works even with a dead battery, because it's powered by a data bus.
β οΈ Warning: If the phone gets hot after charging, but doesn't turn on, it may indicate a power controller malfunction, in which case further attempts to turn on without repair can damage the battery.
2. Use of button combinations (Hard Reset)
If the phone is getting stuck or not responding to charging, try a forced reboot through hardware buttons. On the Redmi Note 7, there are two working combinations for this:
| Combination | Action. | When to apply |
|---|---|---|
| Volume up + Volume down | Hold on for 10-15 seconds. | The phone is getting stuck on a logo or black screen. |
| Up Volume + Power (even if the button is not working) | Hold on for 20 to 30 seconds. | The device is completely off, but responds to charging |
| Volume down + Power | Hold it until it vibrates. | You need to log into Fastboot for firmware. |
If the power button is completely faulty, the second and third methods may not work, in which case move to the ADB method (Section 4).
Make sure your phone is not connected to charging |Use the original buttons (not case)|Push the combination at the same time, without delay |If it doesn't work, repeat in 30 seconds
-->
β οΈ Attention: Forced reboot through Volume Down + Power can cause a reset if the phone has been locked with a pattern lock. If the lock screen has a password, prepare the unlock data in advance (Mi Account).
3. Launch via PC connection (MTP/ADB)
If the phone is recognized by the computer but not turned on, you can try running it through the Android Debug Bridge (ADB), a method that requires pre-setting, but works even if the power button is faulty.
What you need:
- π₯οΈ A computer with installed Xiaomi drivers and ADB.
- π USB-cable (preferably original).
- βοΈ Included debugging by USB (If the phone has been turned on before).
Instructions:
- Connect the Redmi Note 7 to the PC.
- Open the command line (Win + R β enter cmd).
- Enter the command: adb devices If the phone is identified (serial number appears), execute: adb shell reboot
- If the command fails, try: Adb shell input keyevent 26 (emulation of the power button).
What if the ADB canβt see the device?
Critical: If USB debugging wasn't enabled in advance, this method won't work, leaving only hardware (section 5) or button repairs.
4. Enter Fastboot Mode and Firmware
If the phone responds to the combination of Loudness down + Power, but does not turn on normally, you can try to stream it through Fastboot. This method is suitable for cases where the smartphone loads into bootloader mode, but can not complete the system start.
Step-by-step:
- Hold Volume Down + Power 10-15 seconds until the Fastboot logo appears.
- Connect your phone to your PC and check for recognition: fastboot devices
- Download the official firmware for Redmi Note 7 (codename lavender) from the Xiaomi website.
- Unpack the archive and execute the command: fastboot flash all firmware.zip (replace "firmware.zip" with the file name).
β οΈ Note: Fastboot removes all data on your phone, including photos and apps. If your device had important files, try extracting them first. TWRP (if established).

5. Hardware methods (disassembly of the phone)
If the software methods don't work, it's mechanically powered by closing the contacts on the board, which is neat and only suitable for users with experience in disassembling the hardware.
What you need:
- βοΈ Plastic blade or mediator.
- π§ Torx screwdriver T3 and Phillips PH00.
- 𧲠Magnetic propeller substrate.
- π Loop (optional, for precise closure of contacts).
Instructions:
- Turn off the phone from power and remove the back cover (it is glued, so heat the edges with a hairdryer 60Β°C).
- Unscrew 12 screws that fix the middle frame.
- Disconnect the battery plume (donβt pull it out completely!).
- Find contacts on the motherboard POWER_KEY (usually signed as KPP or PWR).
- Carefully close the contacts with tweezers or a screwdriver for 1-2 seconds.
π‘
Closing the contacts simulates pressing the power button at the hardware level, and if the phone doesn't turn on after that, the problem could be the power controller or the firmware.
β οΈ Attention: Incorrect closure of contacts can lead to short circuit and failure of the motherboard. If you are not sure of your skills, it is better to contact the service center.
Alternative solutions and prevention
If youβve managed to turn your phone on but the power button still doesnβt work, consider temporary and permanent solutions:
- π Flashing: Sometimes button failures are caused by software errors. Install the latest version MIUI via Fastboot or Recovery.
- π§ Replacement of the button: The cost of repair in the service center - from 800 to 1500 rubles. Self-replacement is possible, but requires soldering equipment.
- π± Use of apps: Install utilities like Button Remapper or Power Button to Volume Button to reassign the enable feature to other keys.
- π External Battery with a Button: Some Power Banks have a function of forced activation of connected devices.
Prevention of button malfunctions:
- π« Avoid pressing the button (before clicking).
- π§ Do not use your phone in wet conditions (even with a cover).
- 𧴠Once every 3-6 months, clean the button with alcohol (with the help of a cotton swab).
- π‘οΈ Install a case with dust protection (e.g. Spigen Thin Fit).
