Xiaomi TV stopped turning on? Don't panic - in 80% of cases, the problem is solved without going to the service center. This article will help you understand why your TV- receiver does not respond to the power button or remote control, and what to do about it. We will look at both software failures and hardware malfunctions, and give step-by-step instructions for each situation.
It's important to understand that there are many causes, from the simple discharge of the battery in the remote to serious breakdowns in the power supply, starting with the simplest solutions and gradually moving to more complex diagnostic and recovery methods, if your Mi TV or Redmi Smart TV is not showing signs of life, this is the guide for you.
1. Verification of elementary causes
Before you disassemble the device or carry it for repair, make sure that the problem is not the obvious, and statistics show that 30 percent of the time, the TVs don't turn on for this reason.
Start by checking the power source:
- π Make sure the plug is tightly inserted into the socket (try another socket)
- π Check the power cable for damage (bending, bare wires)
- πΊ If you use a network filter, connect the TV directly to the outlet.
- π Try another power cable (if possible)
Then check the remote control:
- π Replace batteries (even if they seem to work)
- π± Try to control your TV using the Mi Remote app on your smartphone
- ποΈ Point your phone camera at the remote's IR transmitter and press any button β if you see flicker, the remote is in good working order.
- π Check if the IR receiver on the TV is closed (dust, decorative panels)
π‘
If you have a TV with Google TV (Models 2022+), try turning it on with the voice command βOK Google, Turn on the TVβ β this will work even if the remote is faulty.
Don't forget the physical power button on the TV body (usually located on the side or back under the logo). Press and hold it for 10-15 seconds - this can reset temporary freezes.
Indicator diagnostics
Take a close look at the power indicator (usually a red or white LED) on the front of the TV, and its behavior will tell you what the problem is:
| Behavior of the indicator | Possible cause | Recommendations |
|---|---|---|
| It's not burning at all. | Lack of power, malfunction of the power supply | Check the socket, cable, try another power source |
| It burns red, does not respond to buttons. | System freeze, firmware error | Perform the reset (see section 4) |
| Flashes red (regularly) | Hardware error (overheating, malfunction of the motherboard) | Turn off for 30 minutes, check the ventilation |
| It burns white, but the screen is black. | Problems with backlight or matrix | Light a flashlight on the screen β if you see the image, the illumination is faulty |
| Blinking white (often) | Update the firmware or reset settings | Do not turn off the TV, wait until the process is completed (up to 10 minutes). |
Critical information: If the indicator flashes red with pauses (for example, blinks 3 times - pause - 3 times blink), this is an error code. Write down the sequence and contact the service with this information.
On Xiaomi TV Q2 and later, the indicator can glow blue when booting the system. If it burns blue for more than 5 minutes, this is a sign of getting stuck during the initialization stage.
3. Software recovery methods
If the TV is powered (the indicator is on), but it is not turning on normally, try the software methods of resuscitation. Start with the safest method: forced reboot:
Turn off the power cable from the socket | Press and hold the power button on the case for 30 seconds | Connect the power back | Wait 2-3 minutes before turning on-->
If a simple reboot doesn't work, reset to factory settings. There are two ways:
- Using the service menu (if the screen reacts at least slightly): On the remote, simultaneously press Menu + Volume - on the 5 seconds In the menu that appears, select Wipe Data/Factory Reset Confirm action (usually by the OK button)
Through the buttons on the body
- Turn off the power.
- Press the Volume button - on the case and, holding it, connect the power
- Hold the button 10-15 seconds before the service menu appears
For Android TV 10+ models (released after 2021), there is an alternative way to reset via ADB:
adb shell am start -n com.android.tv.settings/.device.admin.DeviceAdminResetActivityThis command runs the reset menu directly, and to do so, youβll need a computer with ADB drivers installed and USB debugging enabled on your TV (if itβs even turned on).
How to enable debugging by USB on Xiaomi TV
4. Update of firmware in emergency mode
If the TV loads to the Xiaomi logo and turns off, or constantly restarts, it is a sign of damaged firmware, in which case manual updates via USB help.
You'll need:
- π₯οΈ Computer with Internet access
- πΎ Empty USB- flash drive (FAT32, up to 32 GB)
- π§ Removal screwdriver (if ports USB are not available)
- β‘ Power Cable (TV must be connected to network)
Instructions for updating:
- Download the latest firmware version for your model from the official Xiaomi Support website (select a file with the.zip extension)
- Unpack the archive and copy the update.zip file to the root of the flash drive (not to the folder!)
- Rename the file to mi_update.zip (required!)
- Insert the flash drive into the USB- port of the TV (use the port marked Service if any)
- Press and hold the Menu button on the case + connect the power
- Hold the button 10-15 seconds before the update process (the indicator will start flashing white)
The upgrade process takes 5-15 minutes. Do not turn off the power during the operation - this can lead to complete failure of the device.
π‘
If the TV doesn't turn on for more than 20 minutes after the update and the indicator doesn't blink, it's a sign of incompatible firmware. Try a different version of the software or contact the service.
For Xiaomi TV Stick models, the process is similar, but the firmware file should be called update.zip and put in the upgrade folder on the USB flash drive.
5. Diagnostics of hardware malfunctions
If all software methods have been tried and the TV still doesn't turn on, the problem is probably hardware.
Typical hardware problems:
- π Power supply -- the TV doesn't respond at all, the light doesn't burn, often accompanied by the smell of burning.
- π₯οΈ Motherboard -- the indicator is on, but there's no image/sound. It can flash red with a certain sequence.
- π‘ Backlight/matrix β screen black, but in bright light you can see a dim image.
- π Sound amplifier β the image is there, but there is no sound (or vice versa).
- π₯ Overheating -- the TV turns on but turns off after a few minutes, often accompanied by loud fan operation.
Some malfunctions can be diagnosed independently:
Listen to the TV β can you hear the sound of the fan?|Smell the body - does there smell of burning?|Light a flashlight on the screen β can you see the image?|Check all the connectors on the boards (if you disassemble the device)|Measure the voltage on the power supply (multimeter required)-->
To check the power supply, you will need a multimeter. Measure the voltage on the main connector (usually 12V or 24V depending on the model), a deviation of more than 10% from the nominal indicates a malfunction.
If you don't have any experience with electronics, we don't recommend disassembling the TV yourself. Xiaomi's current models have thin plumes and easily damaged components. Contact an authorized service center - repairs will be cheaper than replacing parts you've broken.
π‘
On Xiaomi Mi TV 5 Pro and newer models, the power supply is combined with the motherboard, and its replacement requires a complete flashing of the TV in the service.
6. When to contact the service
There are situations where self-repair is not only useless, but also dangerous.
- π₯ The television makes extraneous sounds (creaming, squeaking) or smokes
- π₯ There was a short circuit or power surge in the network
- π©Ή Physical damage (cracks, dents) is visible on the body or screen
- π§ Youβve tried all the methods in this article, but the result is zero.
- π Television turned on but image distorted (bands, artifacts, broken pixels)
Before the service visit:
- Record the TV model (located on the back sticker)
- Remember the sequence of the indicator blinking (if flashing)
- Prepare a check or a warranty card (if any)
- Check with Xiaomi support if your city has an authorized service
The cost of repair depends on the fault:
| Type of malfunction | Average cost of repair (2026) | Duration of repairs |
|---|---|---|
| Replacement of the power supply | 3 000 β 8 000 β½ | 1-3 days |
| Maternity board repair | 5 000 β 15 000 β½ | 3-7 days |
| Replacement of lighting/matrix | 8 000 β 25 000 β½ | 5-10 days |
| Reflashing after a failed update | 1 500 β 4 000 β½ | 1 day |
If your TV is guaranteed, do not open the case - this will void the warranty. Contact the official Xiaomi service with a passport and a warranty card.
Prevention of inclusion problems
To avoid problems in the future, follow these guidelines:
- β‘ Use a voltage stabilizer β power surges are a common cause of power supply failures
- π Once every 3 months perform a soft reset (unplug for 1 minute)
- π¦ Do not close the vents β overheating reduces the life of components
- π Replace your batteries once a year, even if they still work.
- π² Regularly update your firmware through the settings menu (not via USB)
- π‘οΈ Install a network filter to protect against impulse interference
- π§Ή Once every six months, clean the case of dust (use a soft brush)
For Android TV models, we recommend you disable automatic app updates, and some updates (especially for Google Play Services) can cause conflicts:
- Go to Settings β Applications
- Choose the Google Play Store
- Turn off the Auto Update option for applications
If you use Kodi, IPTV, or other heavy apps frequently, clear the cache once a month:
Settings β Applications β Select the application β Clear the cache
