Did you buy a used Xiaomi laptop without documents or lost the sticker box? Or maybe you just want to clarify the modification before buying parts or updating the BIOS? Determining the exact model of a laptop of this brand often becomes a headache - especially if we are talking about little-known modifications like the Mi Notebook Pro X 15 or RedmiBook 14 II. Unlike smartphones, where the model is usually specified in the settings, laptops do not have a universal method, and methods depend on the version of the MIUI for the PC, the state of the system and even the region of sale.
In this article, weβve gathered all the working methods, from the obvious (inspection of the case) to the hidden (the commands in PowerShell), which will help to identify your device with accuracy before revision. And also explain why some methods may not work on Xiaomi laptops in 2020-2023 and how to get around these restrictions.
1. Inspection of the case: where to look for stickers with a model
The first thing to do is to look carefully at the laptop from the outside. The manufacturer usually duplicates the model information in several places, but their location depends on the series. For example, the Mi Notebook Air sticker with the full name (Mi Notebook Air 12.5) can be hidden under the battery, and the RedmiBook 16 can be hidden on the bottom cover next to the serial number.
Where exactly to look:
- π The bottom cover is the most obvious location. Look for a white or silver sticker with small print. It should have a line like Model: M1806D or Type: NBGMWXH01. Attention: some models (like Mi Notebook Pro 15.6) only have the serial number (SN) on it, and you have to look elsewhere.
- π Under the battery -- relevant for laptops with removable batteries (like the old Mi Notebook Air). Click the compartment cover -- there's often an extra sticker with the full name.
- π₯οΈ Screen bezels are rare, but they're found in some RedmiBook modifications. Look at the bottom of the display bezels, and sometimes the model is in small print.
β οΈ Warning: Xiaomi laptops sold in China may have a model on the sticker in Chinese (e.g. Pro 15), in which case use an interpreter or compare it to the official specifications on mi.com.
If the stickers are erased or missing, move on to the next method. If the laptop is not yet purchased, ask the seller to take a picture of these places! On some models (for example, the Mi Notebook Pro X 15 2022), the sticker with the model is hidden under rubber legs, you can gently lift them without damaging the body.
2. Windows system settings: where the model is hidden
If the laptop is powered on and Windows is installed, you can find out the model through standard system tools. However, there is a caveat: Xiaomi often indicates in the settings an incomplete name (for example, just Mi Notebook without specifying the series).
Method 1. System information
- Press Win + R, enter msinfo32 and press Enter.
- In the window that opens, look for the lines Model and Manufacturer, for example, it may indicate Mi Notebook Pro or NBGMWXH01 (the internal code of the model).
Method 2. Device Manager
- Open Device Manager (via Win + X or Search).
- Deploy the System Devices Branch and find the ACPI x64-based PC.
- Then, click on the right button β Properties β of the Information tab.
- In the drop-down menu, select the hardware ID. The list will contain a line with the model, for example: VEN_XIA&DEV_7C01&SUBSYS_7C011119. Here, DEV_7C01 is the model code from which you can find the exact name in the Xiaomi database.
Method 3. Command line
wmic csproduct get name, identifyingnumberThis command will output the model name and serial number.
Name IdentifyingNumber
Mi Notebook Pro M1806D1-TIβ οΈ Warning: On laptops with MIUI preinstalled for PCs (e.g., the 2022 Mi Notebook Pro X 15), Windows system utilities may show an incorrect model, in which case use the methods in the following sections.
Open msinfo32 and find the "Model" line.
Check Device Manager (System Devices section)
Execute wmic csproduct get name
Check the data with the official Xiaomi website-->
3. BIOS/UFI: the most reliable method (but not for beginners)
If Windows doesn't boot or shows the wrong model, the BIOS is your salvation. Here, the model data is written at the iron level, and it can't be forged. But the BIOS login on Xiaomi laptops has its own peculiarities:
How to get into the BIOS on Xiaomi:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press the F2 key (on most models) or Del key (on some RedmiBooks).
- Turn on the power without releasing the key. The screen should show the inscription Entering Setup.
- If it doesnβt work, try the Fn + F2 combination (relevant to the Mi Notebook Air).
In the BIOS, look for the model in the following sections:
- π Main (or Information) β This is usually a Product Name or System Model line, such as Mi Notebook Pro 15.6" (NBGMWXH01).
- π§ Advanced β System Information β some firmware models are hidden here.
If the BIOS model is listed as code (e.g., NBGMWXH01), decrypt it using the table below:
| Model code | Full name | Year of release |
|---|---|---|
| NBGMWXH01 | Mi Notebook Pro 15.6" (i5-8250U) | 2018 |
| JYU4201CN | RedmiBook 14 II (Ryzen 5 4500U) | 2020 |
| NBGKWXH01 | Mi Notebook Pro X 15 (i7-10750H) | 2021 |
| JYU4301CN | RedmiBook Pro 15 (Ryzen 7 5700U) | 2021 |
On Xiaomi laptops from 2022 to 2023 (e.g. RedmiBook Pro 16 2023), the BIOS can only have internal code without decryption. In this case, use it to search the database at the link: Lenovo PC Support (yes, Xiaomi sometimes registers models there because of its production partnership with Lenovo).
π‘
If you canβt log in to the BIOS, try resetting: turn off your laptop, press the power button for 30 seconds, then try again to log in.
4 Packaging and Documents: What to Look for in a Box
If you still have the original box or documents, you can recognize the model without turning on the laptop. Xiaomi duplicates the information in several places:
- π¦ The sticker on the box is usually on the end or bottom. Look for a Model or Type line. For example: Mi Notebook Pro 15.6" (M1806D).
- π Warranty card β Model or Serial number often gives the full name. Please note that the Chinese version may have a coupon in Chinese β use an interpreter.
- π User Guide - On the first page or in the Specifications section, there is always a model. In the electronic versions of the manuals (PDF), it can be found through a document search (Ctrl + F β type Model).
If there is no box, but the laptop was officially purchased, check:
- π Check or email with confirmation of purchase β these often indicate a model.
- π Personal account on account.xiaomi.com β if the laptop is linked to a Mi Account, the model can appear in the list of devices.
β οΈ Warning: Xiaomi laptops are often sold in the markets without their original packaging. If the box looks suspicious (no Mi logo, no code stickers), chances are that the model is incorrect. In this case, use the methods in the BIOS section.
5. Programs for model definition: AIDA64, CPU-Z and others
If Windows system tools fail, third-party tools will come to the rescue, reading data with hardware and often showing more complete information than standard tools.
1. AIDA64 (Everest)
- Download the portable version from the official website.
- Start the program β section System board β System board.
- Find the lines System and System Model.
System board model: Xiaomi NBGMWXH01
System: Mi Notebook Pro 15.6"2. CPU-Z
- Download from cpuid.com (take the version without installer).
- Open the Mainboard tab.
- The Model field will have an internal code (e.g. JYU4201CN) and the System will have a series name.
3. HWiNFO
- Run β in the System Summary window, find the Motherboard section.
- The Model line contains the full name, for example: Xiaomi RedmiBook 14 II (JYU4201CN).
If the software only shows the model code (e.g. NBGKWXH01), use Xiaomiβs support base by searching it. Importantly, some utilities (e.g. Speccy) may misidentify Xiaomi models due to their absence from the database.
Why do programs sometimes get it wrong?
Online services by serial number
If you find a serial number (SN) on a sticker or in the BIOS, it can be used to identify a model through official Xiaomi services.
The official method (not applicable to all regions):
- Go to the support page of Xiaomi.
- Select the Laptop section β Warranty Check.
- Enter the serial number. The system must show the model and the date of production.
Alternative services:
- π Apple Coverage Check -- no, it's not a mistake! Some Xiaomi models (especially those released before 2020) were registered through partnerships with Apple and Lenovo. Type in the serial number -- if you have a laptop in the database, you'll see the model.
- π Lenovo PC Support β type the serial number in the search box. This will work for laptops released using ODM- schema (such as some RedmiBooks).
β οΈ Warning: Xiaomi serial numbers often begin with the letters L, M, or J (e.g., L1906D12345).If your number starts with SN or S/N, it may be a fake - Xiaomi official numbers never contain such prefixes.
If the serial number is not recognized, try entering it into the UltrabookReview database, which has many Chinese models that are not officially available outside of Asia.
7. Visual Identification: How to distinguish models by appearance
If none of the above methods worked, it remains to determine the model by eye. Xiaomi laptops have unique design features that can distinguish one series from another:
Key differences of popular series:
- π₯οΈ Mi Notebook Air (12.5" or 13.3") - ultra-thin body (12.9 mm), no Ethernet port, the Mi logo on the cover without backlighting.
- π¨ Mi Notebook Pro β metal body, keyboard illumination, HDMI and USB-C ports on both sides. The Pro X modification has a 15.6" screen with a 16:10 ratio.
- π΄ RedmiBook is a plastic case (except Pro versions), a red Redmi logo, often missing keyboard highlighting. RedmiBook 16 has a numerical block on the right.
- π» Mi Gaming Laptop - aggressive design with RGB- backlight, thick body, ports for external graphics card.
How to measure the screen diagonal to clarify the model:
- Take a ruler or a roulette.
- Measure the diagonal of the active area of the screen (without frames!).
- Compare the official data: 12.5" - Mi Notebook Air 12.5"; 13.3" - Mi Notebook Air 13.3" or RedmiBook 13"; 14" - RedmiBook 14/14 II; 15.6" - most Mi Notebook Pro or RedmiBook 15; 16.1" - RedmiBook 16 or Mi Notebook Pro X 15 (with a ratio of 16:10).
Also note:
- π Port location: RedmiBook USB- ports are usually on the right, Mi Notebook Pro ports are symmetrical.
- π±οΈ Touchpad: Pro models have glass, RedmiBook has plastic.
- πΉ Keyboard: Only the Pro series and RedmiBook Pro have backlights.
If you visually identified the series, but not the exact modification, use the NotebookCheck database, where you can compare photos and characteristics.
π‘
Even if you have visually defined the model, always double-check it through BIOS or system utilities, for example, RedmiBook 14 and RedmiBook 14 II are almost identical in appearance, but have different processors and boards.
