You bought a Xiaomi smartphone and you want to know what type of screen it has? Or are you planning to replace the display and you need to determine exactly the matrix model? In this article, we will examine all the working methods - from checking through settings to using special applications and visual tests. It is important to understand that the type of screen affects not only the quality of the picture, but also the cost of repair, power consumption and even how the smartphone will behave in low temperatures.
The manufacturer doesn't always specify the type of matrix in the specs, especially in the low-end models of Redmi or POCO. Meanwhile, the difference between AMOLED and IPS is huge: the former offer deep black and high contrast, but can suffer from burnout pixels, the latter - more durable, but lose in saturation. How do you know what is worth in your Xiaomi? Let's understand.
1. Verification through smartphone settings (official way)
The most reliable method is to look at the display information in the system settings. Unfortunately, not all Xiaomi models provide this data directly, but in most cases, you can find indirect confirmation.
Open the Settings menu β About phone β All specs. Here you can see the type of screen (e.g. AMOLED or LCD). If you don't have one, look for other options:
- π Screen resolution: High resolution (e.g., high resolution, 2K or QHD+) more frequently AMOLED-Matrices of premium models (Mi 13, Mi 14).
- π Update frequency: If 120 Hz or 144 Hz is specified, it can be as AMOLED, so IPS (for example, POCO F5 has AMOLED at 120Hz and Redmi Note 12 β IPS 120 Hz).
- π Technology HDR: support HDR10+ Dolby Vision is more common in the AMOLED-display.
β οΈ Note: In some cases (especially in the POCO) The "All Features" section can be hidden. To open it, tap 5 times on the line Version. MIUI on the phone menu.
If the settings do not explicitly specify the type of matrix, proceed to the next method.
2.Use of the engineering menu (for advanced users)
The engineering menu (#4636## or #3644633##) provides technical information about the display, but it requires caution. This method does not work on all Xiaomi models, especially the new ones with the MIUI 14+.
Instructions:
- Open the Phone app and enter the combination ##4636##.
- Go to the phone information or Hardware info section.
- Find the Display or Screen string β a matrix model (such as Samsung AMOLED or BOE LCD) can be listed here.
If the combination doesn't work, try the alternative code: ##3644633## (to test the display). In the menu that opens, select Version info, sometimes it shows the screen manufacturer.
β οΈ Warning: Do not change the settings in the engineering menu unless you are sure of their purpose! Incorrect actions can lead to damage to the display or a failure in the sensor.
Try another code (##6484## or #225###)
Check if access is blocked in the developer settings
Use third-party applications (see next section)

3. Third-party screen analysis applications
If the system methods didn't work, specialized utilities will come to the rescue, not only showing the type of matrix, but also providing additional information: color gamut, brightness, response time and even the screen manufacturer.
The best apps for Xiaomi:
- π± AIDA64 (Display section β shows screen model, resolution, pixel density and technology (e.g, AMOLED or TFT LCD).
- π± CPU-Z (Device tab β sometimes displays the matrix manufacturer (e.g. Samsung, BOE, Tianma).
- π± Screen Test β Tests the display for broken pixels and shows the type of backlight (organic or organic) LED).
- π± Display Tester β analyzes color reproduction and contrast, which indirectly indicates the type of matrix.
Example of the report from AIDA64 for Xiaomi Mi 11:
Display:
Resolution: 1440 x 3200
Density: 526 PPI
Technology: AMOLED
Manufacturer: Samsung
Refresh Rate: 120 HzIf the application does not show the type of matrix, pay attention to the manufacturer:
- Samsung and LG more frequently AMOLED-screen.
BOE, Tianma, AU Optronics β usually IPS/LCD
AMOLED
IPS/LCD

4. Visual tests: how to distinguish AMOLED from IPS
If you don't have access to settings or apps, you can determine the type of screen with simple visual tests, which is not 100% guaranteed, but it works 90% of the time.
Test 1: Black screen
- π Open any dark image (such as a black background) or turn on Always On Display (if any).
- π¦ Light a flashlight at an angle on the screen: If the screen remains completely black (no backlights are visible) AMOLED. - If you see the gray light, this is IPS/LCD.
Test 2: Viewing angles
- π Look at the screen from a sharp angle (45-60 degree): - AMOLED It does not change color or contrast. - IPS loses brightness and may acquire a bluish or yellowish tint.
Test 3: White screensaver
- βοΈ Open the white image to full brightness: AMOLED You may see divorces or uneven lighting (especially on cheap matrices). IPS The lighting is uniform, but the effect of a dirty screen can be manifested" (DSE) β smudge.
Test 4: Color transitions
- π¨ Open the gradient (for example, the transition from black to red): - AMOLED will show a smooth transition, but striping at low brightness is possible. - IPS may show blurred transitions due to the peculiarities of the lighting.
π‘
For an accurate test, use an image with alternating black and color stripes. On AMOLED, the black stripes will be completely turned off (do not glow), and on IPS, they will be slightly illuminated.
5. Definition by smartphone model (database)
If your Xiaomi is not older than 2020, you can use the manufacturerβs database.
| Xiaomi model | Screen type | Matrix manufacturer | Frequency of update |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Mi 14 / 14 Pro | AMOLED (LTPO) | Samsung / BOE | 1-120 Hz |
| Xiaomi 13T / 13T Pro | AMOLED | Samsung | 144 Hz |
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+ | AMOLED | Visionox | 120 Hz |
| POCO X5 Pro | AMOLED | BOE | 90 Hz |
| Redmi Note 12 (baseline) | IPS LCD | BOE / Tianma | 120 Hz |
| Xiaomi Pad 6 | IPS LCD | Sharp | 144 Hz |
Important: Some models (e.g. Redmi Note 11 Pro+) may have different screen types depending on the region of sale, with European versions often getting AMOLED and Asian versions getting IPS.
To clarify the information on their model:
- Find the exact article on the box or in the documents (e.g. 2201116PG for Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G).
- Check the specifications on the official Xiaomi website or on GSMArena.

Physical inspection (for experienced users)
If you're ready to disassemble a smartphone (for example, to replace a screen), you can visually determine the type of matrix, which requires accuracy and is only suitable for users with experience in repairing.
What to look for:
- π§ Illumination: - AMOLED: There is no separate lighting, the pixels glow on their own. - IPS/LCD: You can see the white stripe on the edge of the screen (LED-lighting).
- π§ Flexible plume: - AMOLED: thin flexible cable with many contacts. - IPS: wider plume, often with a separate lighting connector.
- π§ Marking: - On the back of the matrix may be a sticker with a symbol (for example, SDC β Samsung Display Corporation, BOE, TM β Tianma).
β οΈ Warning: Disassembling your smartphone is not warranty-free! If you are not sure about your skills, contact the service center. Also remember that modern Xiaomi (for example, Mi 13 or Redmi) K60) use high-fixing glue - a special tool is needed for safe opening (suction cups, mediators).
If you still decide to disassemble, follow the instructions:
- Turn off your smartphone and remove it. SIM-map.
- Heat the edges of the screen with a hair dryer (temperature not higher than 60Β°C) to soften the glue.
- Carefully tuck the screen with a plastic spatula, starting at the corner.
- Disconnect the display plume (usually it is at the bottom).
7. Contact the Xiaomi Service Center
If all previous methods have failed, the most reliable way is to contact an official service center, especially for newer models (Xiaomi 14, Redmi Turbo 3), where information about the matrix can be hidden.
What needs to be done:
- π Find the nearest service on the Xiaomi Service website.
- π Take with you documents on your smartphone (guarantee ticket, check).
- π§ Ask for a diagnostic report indicating the type of matrix.
Advantages of this method:
- β 100% accurate information.
- β The ability to order the original part immediately if you need a replacement.
- β Checking for hidden defects (for example, pixel burnout on the AMOLED).
The cost of diagnostics in official Xiaomi services is usually 0-500 rubles, if you do not need repair.
π‘
The official service is the only way to guarantee the type of screen on new Xiaomi models, where the data is hidden in the firmware.
