Have you taken an old Xiaomi smartphone out of the drawer, but it doesn't show signs of life? Or bought a used device that refuses to turn on? Defining a model of a phone that's turned off is not an easy task, but it's a complete one. Without the exact name of the model, you can't download the right firmware, order parts or even estimate the market value of the gadget. Fortunately, the manufacturer leaves clues on the case, the package and even inside the system - you just need to know where to look.
In this article, we'll look at all the possible ways of identifying, from the obvious (checking boxes and stickers) to the little-known (analysing IMEIs through the engineering menu of another phone), how to distinguish the Redmi Note 11 from the POCO X4 Pro by external features, where to look for hidden markings under the battery, and why some methods work only for certain series, and if the phone does show any signs of life, we'll show you how to pull information about the model even from a semi-sized device.
1.Looking for the model on the original box
The most reliable way is to inspect the package in which the smartphone was sold. Xiaomi always indicates the full name of the model on the box, and in several places:
- 📦 On the front side - usually in large font (for example, Redmi). 9A or POCO F3).
- 🏷️ On the side or bottom of the sticker, the serial number and IMEI.
- 📄 In the documentation - on the first page of the instructions or warranty card.
If the box is still there but the labels are erased or painted over, try to look at them at an angle in good light. 2.Inspection of the case: where Xiaomi hides the marking
If there is no box, carefully examine the smartphone itself.

3. IMEI model definition (even without inclusion)
IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique phone identifier that can tell you a model, and even if the phone doesn't turn on, IMEI can be considered in several ways:
- Sticker under the battery or on the case – look for a 15-digit code (e.g. 861234567890123).
- Slot for SIM-maps on some models IMEI indicated on or near the tray.

- 📏 Sizes and weight – take a ruler and weigh the device (data can be found in the specifications).
- 🔌 Type of connector - Micro-USB (old models), USB-C (new), or no connector (wireless charging, like the Mi Mix Alpha).
- 🔊 Location of speakers - stereo speakers from the bottom and top (POCO F3) or monodynamics from below (Redmi) 9C).
If the back is marked “Designed by Xiaomi”, it is guaranteed to be the original device (clones do not usually copy this marking).
