Why Removing the Wheel on a Xiaomi Scooter Needs a Special Approach
Xiaomiβs M365, Pro, Pro 2 and 1S electric scooters have a unified front fork design, but removing the wheel here is not as easy as on a bicycle. The main challenge is the integrated brake disc and wiring (on ABS models). If you act head-on, you can damage the speed sensor cable or bend the brake rotor, which will lead to expensive repairs.
In this article, we've got some unique nuances for Xiaomi scooters that you won't find in general bike guides.
- π§ What tools are needed (and what can not be replaced with hexagon!)
- π How to safely disconnect the wiring without damaging the connectors
- π² Why you can not remove the wheel without fixing the fork - and how to do it with improvised means
- β οΈ Typical errors that cause the wheellater to jam when reassembled
If your scooter is warranty, you should contact the service center.Self-repair may cancel the warranty (especially on Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro models with sealed bearings).
Preparation: tools and modalities
A minimum set will be required for work, but without it it it is impossible to remove the wheel:
- π© Hexagonal key 5 mm (necessarily exact size - "almost 5 mm" will not fit!)
- π§ Carrot or cap key 15 mm (for counternut)
- 𧲠Magnet or tweezers (to avoid losing small washers)
- πΈ Smartphone (to photograph the location of the wires before disconnection)
- 𧴠WD-40 or similar lubrication (if the bolts are acidified)
Important: do not use movable keys - they will tear the edges on the nuts. Also avoid percussion tools (hammers, chisels) if the wheel is not removed: on scooter Xiaomi thread on the axle is soft and easily deformed.
β οΈ Warning: If the scooter has recently been riding in the rain or stored in a wet room, let it dry for 2-3 hours before work.
Work on a flat surface, fixing the scooter in a vertical position (for example, holding the steering wheel against the wall). If the wheel turns when unscrewing, do not apply force, but press the brake lever on the steering wheel (this will block the disk).
Step-by-step: Remove the wheel
Follow this algorithm to avoid errors:
- Disconnect the battery. Turn off the scooter with the power button, then turn off the battery connector (under the platform), which will prevent short circuits when working with the wiring.
- Take a picture of the wires. On models with ABS (like the Xiaomi M365 Pro), there are 2 wires to the wheel: a speed sensor and a brake cable, which are easily confused when assembled back.
- Weaken the counternut. Use the 15mm key, holding the 5mm hexagon axis on the other side. Don't unscrew it completely! Weaken it first, then unscrew the hexagonal axis.
- Take the wheel off. Pull it gently on you, holding the fork with your other hand. If the wheel is not removed, don't pull! Most likely, the carving is acidic (see "What to do if the wheel is jammed").

On Xiaomi 1S and Pro 2, after the wheel is removed, you will see a plastic bearing cover. Don't remove it unnecessarily, it prevents dirt from getting into the mechanism.
Features for different Xiaomi models
The design of the front fork varies depending on the model, and the table shows the key differences:
| Model scooter | Brake type | Features of dismantling | Frequent problems |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi M365 | Disc mechanical | A simple axis without wiring. The counternut often gets crummy. | The thread breaks with excessive effort. |
| Xiaomi Pro / Pro 2 | Disk + ABS | The speed sensor is attached to the plug with two T15 bolts. | The wires are rubbed against the fork when stacked incorrectly. |
| Xiaomi 1S | Disk + E-ABS | Additional connector on the brake cable. | Oxidation of contacts when moisture is ingested. |
| Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro | Double disc. | Reinforced axis, requires a key of 17 mm. | Wearing of the bearings in the absence of lubrication. |
On the Xiaomi M365 and Pro, you can immediately start replacing the tire or bearings after removing the wheel. On models with ABS (Pro 2, 1S), you first need to disconnect the speed sensor, otherwise the wire will prevent you from removing the axle.
π‘
If you remove the tire replacement wheel, you'll have to let the air out of the chamber before the end, which will make it easier to dismantle and protect the rim from deformation.
What to do if the wheel is stuck
If the axle does not come out of the plug even after the nuts are unscrewed, the reasons may be as follows:
- π§ Carving corrosion is for scooters that have been riding in the rain. Solution: fly plenty. WD-40 And wait 10 to 15 minutes, and then scroll back and forth gently, tapping it with a plastic hammer (not a metal hammer!).
- πͺ« Axis deformity occurs after an accident or a fall. Solution: try to knock the axis out through a wooden spacer. If it doesn't, you'll need to change the axis.
- 𧲠Magnetic attraction in models with E-ABS So, the sensor can stick to the rotor. Solution: unplug the sensor connector before dismantling.
β οΈ Attention: Do not heat the fork with a blowtorch or a hairdryer to "curl" the axis. On Xiaomi, plastic elements of the fork can deform already when the fork is not used. +80Β°C.
If the wheel is not removed, try the following method:
- Then, turn the slack back (not completely).
- Tilt the scooter so that the wheel is at the top.
- Sharply but gently hit the axis through a wooden bar (weighing no more than 0.5 kg).
This method works in 80% of jamming cases, but requires precision β do not overdo it with the force of the impact.
Reverse Assembly: How to Avoid Mistakes
When you put the wheel back, many people make critical mistakes that lead to a backlash, a creak, or a broken brake.
- Check the order of the washers: πΉ 1 locking washer (with internal "mustacheΒ») πΉ 1 flat washer (between the lock and fork) πΉ 1 cone washer (under counternut)
Losing or repositioning washers will lead to the back of the wheel.
Tighten the nuts cross-over.
15 mm
Check the brake disc.
On models with ABS after assembly, be sure to calibrate the brake:
- Turn on the scooter.
- Accelerate to 5 km/h.
- Pull the brake lever to the point.
- Repeat 3 times.
Apply the lubricant in a thin layer only on the axle thread and the inner surface of the bearings.
