Xiaomi Redmi 6 is a popular budget smartphone released in 2018, but even after a few years of operation, its battery may require replacement. Battery bloating, rapid discharge or sudden shutdowns are signs that it is time to dismantle it. However, removing the battery from this device has its own characteristics: glue fixation, fragile plumes and the risk of damage to the board if sloppy actions.
Unlike the removable back cover models (like the Redmi 4A), the Redmi 6 has a non-shattered body and a battery glued to a metal frame, which complicates the process, but with the right approach, you can do it without any repair experience. This article provides step-by-step instructions with a photo, a list of necessary tools, and critical warnings to help avoid errors.
Important: If you've never taken a smartphone apart, make a sober assessment of your strength. Errors in battery extraction can damage the motherboard, break plumes, or even burn a lithium-ion battery. If in doubt, contact the service center.
Preparation for dismantling: tools and security measures
Before you start disassembling the Xiaomi Redmi 6, make sure you have everything you need. Using the wrong tools (for example, a knife instead of a mediator) can cause scratches on the body or punctures of the battery.
- π§ Plastic mediator or guitar mediator (thickness 0.3β0.5 mm) β for separation of the back cover.
- π₯ Dryer or thermo-air station - for softening the glue (temperature 60-80)Β°C).
- β‘ Isopropyl alcohol (90%+) β Removing glue residues from the battery and body.
- π οΈ Screwdriver. T3 and T5 β mount-roller.
- 𧲠Suction cup β will help to lift the cover after heating (optional, but convenient).
- π New battery (if you are planning to replace) - original article MB10 analogue EB41927172, EB41927171.
Also, prepare your workspace: a table with good lighting, an antistatic mat (or even a wooden surface), a screw container. Turn off your phone 10-15 minutes before disassembly, this will reduce the risk of short circuit. If the battery is swollen, work with safety glasses and do not puncture it!
β οΈ Warning: Never use metal objects (knives, screwdrivers) to separate the lid or battery. Lithium-ion batteries are sensitive to puncture and can ignite. If you notice bloating or white plaque on the battery, this is a sign of electrolyte leakage. In this case, do not try to remove the battery yourself: contact the service.
Step 1: Removing the back cover
The first and most important step is to separate the back panel, and on Redmi 6, it's glued around the perimeter, and it's also fixed with latches.
- Heat the edge of the phone with a hairdryer (especially around the power and volume buttons) for 1-2 minutes. Keep the hairdryer at a distance of 5-7 cm so as not to overheat the screen.
- Put the mediator in the gap between the lid and the body at the headphone jack, carefully guide it along the perimeter, separating the glue.
- If the lid doesn't respond, heat it up again. Don't force it, the plastic can crack.
- Once the latches are snapped, remove the lid. Be careful: it is glued to the fingerprint scanner plume (if you have one in your modification).
At this point, many people make the mistake of trying to pull the lid off with a jerk or from a corner, which causes the plume to break or damage the antenna contacts, and if you feel resistance, you better warm up the problem area again.

Do not force the corner of the lid |
Check for a fingerprint scanner plume (if any)-->
Step 2: Disconnect the battery from the board
When you take the lid off, you'll see a battery glued to a metal frame and a motherboard, and the first thing you need to do is disconnect the battery from the board to avoid short circuits.
- Find the battery connector β it is located at the top of the board (near the camera) and marked with black or red insulation.
- Carefully put a plastic spatula on the connector and unplug it. Don't pull the wires!
- If the connector is "stiffened", drop a little isopropyl alcohol on the contacts and wait 10 seconds.
After the battery is turned off, check the voltage on its contacts with a multimeter (if you have experience). Normal value for Redmi 6 is 3.7-4.2 V. If the voltage is below 3.0 V, the battery is deeply discharged and may not be safe to retrieve.
β οΈ Warning: If you see oxidation or green plaque on the board contacts when you disconnect the connector, it's a sign of moisture getting in.
What to do if the battery connector breaks?
Step 3: Removing the battery
Now, the hardest part is separating the battery from the body, and on Redmi 6, it's glued to double-sided tape, which gets very sticky over time.
- Put a plastic blade on the battery from any angle, and if it doesn't lend itself, heat the battery with a hairdryer (don't send hot air to the battery itself!).
- Put a thin plastic card or mediator under the battery to prevent it from sticking back.
- Gradually, you can use the mediator under the battery, separate the glue, and if you feel resistance, heat it and add isopropyl alcohol.
- When the battery is detached, donβt pull it out abruptly: there may be antenna cables or other components underneath.
If the battery is swelling, it should not be punctured or bent.
- π Use special devices (for example, a device for safely removing bloated batteries).
- π§ Place your phone in the freezer for 10-15 minutes before extraction β this will reduce the activity of the electrolyte.
- π Work in a well-ventilated area and keep a fire extinguisher (class D for metals) handy).
| Sign. | What do you do? | What not to do |
|---|---|---|
| The battery is not swollen, but it is tightly glued | Heat the hair dryer + use the mediator | Apply force, use metal objects |
| Light bloating (phone cover lifted) | Remove in the freezer or with special tools | Puncture, bend, heat above 60Β°C |
| Severe swelling (battery deformed) | Contact the service or dispose of the phone | Trying to take it off on your own |
| White coating on the battery (electrolyte leak) | Dispose of hazardous waste immediately at the point of reception | Touch with your bare hands, throw in ordinary garbage |
π‘
If the battery glue is too sticky, moisten it with isopropyl alcohol and wait 1-2 minutes. The alcohol will dissolve the glue but will not damage the phone's components. Don't use acetone or solvents - they will destroy the plastic!
Step 4: Installation of a new battery
If you have removed the battery for replacement, check before installing the new one:
- π Labeling: Original battery for Redmi 6 has articular MB10 or EB41927172. Counterfeiting can have a smaller capacity (original - 3000 mAh).
- π Size: A new battery must fit exactly into the groove. If it's thicker or thinner, it's a fake.
- β‘ Contacts: Clean them from oxidation with alcohol before connecting.
Installation process:
- Remove the remnants of old glue from the case (use alcohol and plastic scraper).
- Apply a new double-sided tape (e.g. 3M 9448A) or special battery glue.
- Carefully install the battery, starting with the connector, make sure it lies flat, without distortion.
- Connect the connector to the board and check the phone for operability before assembly.
If the phone does not turn on after replacement, check:
- Correct connection of the battery connector.
- The voltage at the contacts (should be ~3.8 V).
- Integrity of plumes (especially fingerprint scanner, if any).
π‘
After you change the battery, be sure to calibrate the battery: completely discharge the phone, then charge to 100% without interruption. Repeat the cycle 2-3 times. This will extend the life of the new battery.
Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Even with careful disassembly, many people face problems, and here are the most common mistakes and ways to prevent them:
- π The fingerprint scanner plume breaks, which happens when you take the lid off abruptly. Solution: Warm up the area around the scanner before disassembling and gently unplug the plume.
- π₯ Overheating the battery with a hair dryer can lead to fire. Solution: heat the case, not the battery itself, and no longer than 2 minutes at a time.
- π οΈ Loss of screws - Redmi 6 uses screws of different sizes. Solution: fold them in a container with cells or photograph the location.
- π± Damage to the antenna contacts, they're located around the perimeter of the housing. Solution: don't push the edges of the lid when you remove the lid.
Another problem is that after assembly, the phone canβt see. SIM-This means that the antenna plumes or contacts were damaged during the dismantling, in which case the card will need to be diagnosed.
What to do with the old battery?
Lithium-ion batteries can't be thrown away in the trash - they contain toxic substances and can spontaneously ignite. Here's how to properly dispose of an old battery from Xiaomi Redmi 6:
- ποΈ Hazardous waste reception points β in most cities there are special containers for batteries and batteries (for example, in the shops βSvyaznoyβ or βM.VideoΒ»).
- β»οΈ Service centers β many workshops accept old batteries for recycling.
- π Ecomobiles β mobile points of reception of hazardous waste (the schedule is usually published on the website of the local administration).
If the battery is swelling or leaking, it should be handed over as soon as possible.
- Place the battery in a plastic container (such as a lid jar).
- Contacts seal with tape to avoid short circuit.
- Do not store at home β even a dead battery can ignite.
β οΈ Warning: If you notice a white coating on an old battery (lithium hexafluorophosphate), don't touch it with your bare hands. This electrolyte is caustic and can cause chemical burns. Use gloves and dispose of the battery immediately.
