Xiaomi chargers are known for their reliability, but even they fail over time: they stop keeping contact, warm up or do not give signs of life. If your charger stops working, do not rush to throw it away - in 60% of cases, the problem is solved by simply cleaning, soldering or replacing the capacitor. However, disassembling Xiaomi chargers has its own nuances: some models (for example, Mi Charge Turbo or Redmi Note 10 Pro) are equipped with hidden latches and adhes that are easily damaged if opened neatly.
In this article, you will find step-by-step disassembly instructions for different models, a list of tools you need, and typical errors that lead to final device failure. We will look at both classic 5V/2A cubes and fast charging with Quick Charge or Power Delivery support. If you have never before disassembled electronics, donβt worry: the process is easier than it seems if you know the key points.
What tools will be needed to disassemble
Before you start, prepare the workspace and tools, and the quality of the tools depends on how carefully the dismantling goes and whether the internal components are damaged.
- π§ Plastic mediator or guitar mediator -- to split the body without scratching. Metal blades leave traces!
- π¨ Thin screwdriver cross (PH00 or PH0) β most of the screws in Xiaomi charging have a small cross slit.
- 𧲠Magnetic mat or container β to avoid losing small screws and parts. Xiaomi charging often uses screws only 2-3 mm long.
- π₯ Dryer or thermo-air station β if the body is glued (relevant for models with waterproof, for example, Mi Power Bank 3).
- πΈ Smartphone for photography β fix the location of parts before dismantling, so as not to confuse them during assembly.
Additionally, you can use: soldering iron (power 30-40 W) with a thin sting, solder and flux - if you plan to repair the board. Multimeter (test voltage, resistance, chain integrity) is also useful for diagnosing malfunctions.
β οΈ Warning: Don't use knives or metal blades to open the case! This will cause plastic chips and may damage the internal components. Plastic mediators are sold in smartphone repair kits (starting at 100 rubles).
Preparation for disassembly: what to do before opening the body
Before you start, follow a few mandatory steps that will save you from mistakes and simplify the process:
- Disconnect the charger from the network at least 30 minutes before disassembly. The capacitors on the board can retain charge, which is dangerous when touched with metal tools.
- Check the case for screws. Some models (such as the Xiaomi Mi Charge 30W) have screws hidden under stickers or rubber legs.
- Check the warranty seal, if it's intact, the disassembly will void the warranty, and then you'd better go to the service center.
If you are disassembling wireless charging (e.g. Xiaomi Mi Wireless Charging Pad), note that inside it is an inductance coil that can be glued to the body, and it will require a hairdryer (~80Β°C) to extract it.
βοΈ Preparation for disassembly
Step-by-step: how to disassemble the Xiaomi charger
The disassembly process depends on the type of charger, and below we will look at the three most common options: classic adapter, fast charging and power bank.
Disassembly of the classical adapter (5V/2A, 10W)
These are the simplest charging options that come with most Redmi and Poco smartphones, and their body is usually held together by two screws and latches.
- Remove the sticker (if any) from the back - a screw is often hidden under it.
- Unscrew all the screws (usually 2 pieces) and put them aside. In some models, the screws can be of different lengths - remember which one from where.
- Put the mediator in the seam of the case and carefully guide them around the perimeter, separating the halves. Start on the side opposite the plug.
- Lift the top cover. If it doesn't respond, don't force it. You may have missed the screw or the latch.
Inside, you'll see a board with a transformer, a diode bridge and a few capacitors. Don't touch the board elements with your bare hands, static electricity can damage them.
2. Disassembly of fast charging (Quick Charge, Power Delivery)
Charges with fast charging support (for example, Xiaomi Mi Charge Turbo 30W or Redmi 33W Fast Charge) have a more complex design. Their body is often glued together, and inside additional shielding plates.
- Heat the body with a hair dryer (temperature ~60-70 Β° C) around the perimeter for 1-2 minutes. This will soften the glue.
- Carefully put the mediator in the seam and slowly lead it along the body, so don't try to separate the halves by force, it will lead to cracks.
- Remove the shielding metal plate (if any) that can be soldered or secured with screws.
- Unplug the plumes (if any) with a plastic blade. Don't pull the wires!
These chargers often have a fast-charging controller (such as the Injoinic IP5328 or NCP1854 chip) that damage will make charging inoperable.
Disassembly of Power Bank (external battery)
Xiaomiβs external batteries (such as Mi Power Bank 3 20000mAh) are more difficult to understand because of the sealed case and lithium batteries inside.
- Remove the top cover with the USB- ports. It's usually attached to the latches.
- Unscrew the screws holding the control board (they may be under stickers).
- Carefully disconnect the battery board. Don't pull the wires -- they're soldered to the battery!
- Remove the battery cells (if necessary) and they can be glued together.
Power Bank can't:
Shortly close the contacts of the battery (risk of fire!).
Damage thermosensors (thin wires glued to the elements).
Use metal tools near the battery.
What to do if the body does not separate?
| Type of charger | Difficulty disassembling | Typical problems | Disassembly time. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic adapter (5V/2A) | β (simple) | Broken latches, lost screws | 5-10 minutes |
| Quick Charge (Quick Charge) | βββ (middle-of-the-road) | Train damage, contact breakage | 15-25 minutes |
| Power Bank (external battery) | ββββ (difficult) | Breaking of battery contacts, fire | 30-40 minutes |
| Wireless charging | βββ (middle-of-the-road) | Coil damage, glue detachment | 20-30 minutes |
Typical malfunctions and how to fix them
If you took the charger apart, it probably didn't work, and here are the most common causes of breakdowns and ways to fix them:
- π Oxidation or break of the USB- connector - Clean the contacts with alcohol or replace the connector (soldering).
- π₯ Bloated capacitors - replace with new ones with the same parameters (capacity, voltage).
- π Burned fuse - find it on the board (usually marked as F1 or FUSE) and replace it.
- π Problems with the transformer β if it is blackened or cracked, charging is easier to replace.
- π Charging controller malfunction β requires flashing or chip replacement (for experienced ones).
If charging is warm but not charging, the problem may be:
Diode bridge (check multimeter in diode mode).
- Throttle (if it cracked or blackened).
Filter capacitors (if they are swelled or leaked).
β οΈ Warning: If there are burn marks or melted items on the board, don't try to repair it without experience! These charges are dangerous - they can catch fire or shock even when turned off.
π‘
Before soldering new components, always clear the board of the old solder with a brazing or suction braid, which will prevent short circuits.
How to assemble a charger after repair
Building is as important as disassembling, and here are the key points to avoid mistakes:
- Check the location of all the details from the photos you took before the disassembly.
- Make sure all plumes and wires are connected correctly.A skewed plume can lead to short circuit.
- Twisting all the screws, but don't tug them over - it could damage the board.
- Check the multimeter charging before final assembly of the case, connect it to the network and measure the voltage at the output (for 5V charging, it should be within 4.75-5.25V).
If the case has been glued, use double-sided tape or heat glue to fix it.Epoxy glue is not recommended - it will make the next disassembly difficult.
After assembly, connect the charger to the phone and check:
- Is the charging starting?
- I don't know if there's a spark or a cod.
- Does the body warm more than usual?
1. Integrity of all soldered joints.
2. Correct connection of the plumes.
3. No short circuits (call the multimeter card).-->
What not to do when disassembling Xiaomi chargers
Some actions can not only damage the charger, but also pose a danger to your health.
- β‘ Connecting a disassembled charge to the mains can cause electrical shock.
- π₯ Heating Power Bank batteries above 100Β°C is a risk of explosion or fire.
- π¨ Using brute force to disengage the body will cause cracks and chips.
- π§ Wash the board with water or alcohol - only local cleaning with a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol.
- π Confusing polarity when soldering is guaranteed to knock the charging out.
Also not worth it:
Store disassembled charging in a dusty place (dust conducts current and can cause short circuit).
Leave small details (screws, washers) unattended - they are easily lost.
Using charging with visible damage to the body (cracks, chips) is dangerous.
