Why to disassemble Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite and what you need to know
The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite can be used to disassemble a smartphone for a variety of reasons, from replacing a broken screen to cleaning connectors or recovering from moisture. This model, released in 2018, is still popular due to its reliability and availability of parts. However, careless disassembly can lead to damage to the plumes, break contacts or even a complete failure of the device.
Unlike the flagship models, the Mi A2 Lite is relatively simple in design, but still requires care. For example, its battery is glued to the body, and the display plumes and buttons are fragile. If you have never disassembled a smartphone before, we recommend you practice on a non-functional device first or watch video instructions. In this article, we will discuss each step in detail, from tool preparation to assembly.
Important: disassembling the smartphone deprives Xiaomi of warranty if it is still valid. Also note that some parts (such as a fingerprint scanner) may be tied to the motherboard โ their replacement will require additional adjustment.
Preparation: security tools and measures
Before you start disassembling, make sure you have everything you need, and not even one tool can complicate the process or cause damage.
- ๐ง Plastic blades (2-3 Pc.) - for careful slinging of the lid and plumes.
- โ๏ธ The screwdriver (PH00 or PH0) โ hull-rotor.
- ๐ฅ Hair dryer or thermal air station - to soften battery glue.
- ๐งฒ Magnetic mat or tray - so as not to lose screws.
- ๐ฑ Suction - will help remove the display (optional).
- ๐ Isopropyl alcohol (90%+) โ clean-up.
Also, prepare your workspace: it should be well lit, clean and free of static electricity (ideally an antistatic mat). If you disassemble your phone after moisture hits, don't turn it on until it's completely dry, which can cause you to short circuit.
โ ๏ธ Warning: Do not use metal tools to tamper with plastic parts - they leave scratches and can damage the plumes. If the plastic blade does not cope, slightly heat the case with a hairdryer (no more than 60).ยฐC).
If you are planning to replace the battery, buy a stick tape (e.g. Tesa 61395), the original Xiaomi disposable adhesive, and a special mediator (a thin plastic strip) to separate the touch layer may be needed to replace the screen.
Step 1: Removing the back cover
The back cover of Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is attached to latches and glue. To remove it, first turn off the phone and remove the tray for the snail. SIM-Then you go with the algorithm:
- Heat the edges of the cover with a hair dryer (50โ60ยฐC) for 1-2 minutes to soften the glue.
- Insert a plastic blade into the gap between the lid and the case (start at the bottom edge where the USB-C connector is).
- Carefully drive the blade along the perimeter, alternately snapping the latches. Don't force - if the lid fails, heat up more.
- When all the latches open, remove the lid. Be careful, it's got a fingerprint scanner plume glued to it!
If the lid is too tightly glued, you can use a suction cup: attach it to the top of the lid and pull it up while putting on a spatula. Don't pull too sharply, it can tear the plume.
โ ๏ธ Note: On some modifications of the Mi A2 Lite under the lid can have an extra protective film. Don't unnecessarily remove it, because it protects the antennas from dust.
When you take the lid off, you'll see the battery, the motherboard and the camera. Don't touch the circuit board contacts with your bare hands, static electricity can damage the chips. If you need to touch, first touch the grounded metal object.

Step 2: Shutting off the battery
Before any manipulation of the internal components, be sure to turn off the battery, which will prevent short circuit and damage to the board. In the Mi A2 Lite, the battery connector is located at the top of the device, next to the motherboard.
To turn off the battery:
- Carefully put a plastic blade black connector (it is usually marked in red or orange).
- Pull the connector up without putting too much effort. If it doesn't respond, check if there's a latch.
- After disconnecting, check with a multimeter that there is no voltage on the board contacts (optional).
If the battery is swelling, don't try to puncture it or bend it, it can cause a fire, in which case it's better to replace it with a new one right away.
- Heat it with a hair dryer (maximum 70ยฐC) until the glue is softened.
- Tap the battery with a plastic spatula and slowly pull up.
- If the glue is too sticky, drop a little isopropyl alcohol under the battery - it will dissolve the glue.
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The battery won't shut down. | Contact oxidation or latching | Clean with alcohol or gently bend the latch |
| Battery bloating | Wear or overheat | Replacement with a new one, check the fee |
| The phone does not turn on after the battery is turned off. | Breakage of the plume or damage to the board | Check all connectors, diagnostics of the board |
Once the battery is removed, inspect it for damage, and if it has traces of oxidation or darts, it may indicate moisture, in which case it is recommended to check other components (for example, a charging connector).
๐ก
If you plan to keep your phone battery-free for a long time, keep it at 40-60% charge, or 100% charge, reducing battery life.
Step 3: Removing the motherboard
The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite motherboard is mounted on multiple screws and connected to other components via plumes to extract it:
- Unscrew all the screws (usually 8-10 pieces) with a cross screwdriver. Remember the location of each screw - they can vary in length!
- Carefully unplug all the plumes: ๐ Display plume (at the top of the board). ๐ Dynamics and microphone plume (bottom). ๐ท Camera plumes (if you plan to remove them).
Put a plastic blade on the board and lift it up. Don't pull the edges, it can damage the soldered contacts.
The board has key components, the Snapdragon 625 processor, memory module, power chip and antenna contacts, and if you notice blackened or bloated elements, it could indicate overheating or short circuiting.
โ ๏ธ Warning: If the phone didn't turn on before the disassembly, don't be in a hurry to change the board. First check: Power plume integrity. Battery voltage (should be available) ~Oxidation of the charging socket contacts.
A multimeter can be used to diagnose the board or USB-Tester, for example, testing resistance between GND and VCC If you're not sure about your skills, you should go to the service center.
How to check the short circuit charge?
Step 4: Disassembling the display and cameras
If you need to replace a screen or a camera, be careful, because these are the most fragile components. The Mi A2 Lite has three layers: glass, touch, and LCD, and you usually change the entire module when you replace it.
To remove the display:
- Heat the edge of the screen with a hairdryer (50โ60ยฐC) for 2-3 minutes.
- Insert a plastic spatula into the gap between the screen and the frame (start at the bottom edge).
- Slowly move the shoulder blade along the perimeter, separating the glue. If the screen does not respond, heat up more.
- After the glue is removed, gently lift the screen up. It's still connected by the plume -- don't pull it all together!
- Disconnect the display plume from the motherboard.
To replace the cameras:
- Unscrew the screws that fix the metal plate over the cameras.
- Carefully remove the camera modules (they may be glued).
- When installing new cameras, make sure the plumes are not bent.
If you notice that after changing the screen, the sensor does not work or there are artifacts in the image, check:
- ๐ Correctness of connection of the plume (it should sit tightly, without distortions).
- ๐งน Clean contacts (clean them with alcohol if necessary).
- ๐ง The integrity of the plume itself (sometimes it is damaged during disassembly).
๐ก
When replacing the display, always check that the screen model is compatible with your device. Non-original modules may have color or sensor problems.
Build the phone: reverse order and check
The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is assembled in reverse order, but with some nuances:
- Set the motherboard and secure it with screws, make sure all the plumes are plugged in to the point.
- Stick a new battery (if you've replaced it). Use double-sided tape or special glue.
- Connect the fingerprint scanner plume to the back cover before it is installed.
- Close the lid, starting at the top edge, make sure all latches are in place.
Don't turn on the phone right away.
- ๐ Connect the charger and check if charging is going on (the indicator should catch fire).
- ๐ฑ Press the power button โ the phone should vibrate and start loading.
- ๐ Check the work of all components: screen, cameras, speakers, microphone, sensor.
If the phone is not switched on:
- Check the battery connection and power plume.
- Make sure the power button is properly installed and its plume is not damaged.
- Try charging your phone for 10-15 minutes โ sometimes a discharged battery does not allow you to turn on immediately.
โ ๏ธ Attention: If after assembly the phone overheats or discharges quickly, most likely, the battery is not connected correctly or the board is damaged.
If you have replaced the screen or battery, you may need to calibrate the battery. To do this, fully charge the phone, then discharge before turning off and recharge 100%. Repeat the procedure 2-3 times.
Frequent Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Even experienced craftsmen sometimes make mistakes when disassembling the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, and here are the most common ones and ways to prevent them:
| Mistake. | Effects of consequences | How to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Use of metal tools | Scratches, damage to plumes | Use only plastic blades |
| Dryer overheating | Bloating or ignition | Heat no higher than 70ยฐC, do not direct the air flow to one point |
| Incorrect screw installation | Damage to board or hull | Remember the location of each screw (you can take pictures) |
| Unlocking of plumes without fixation | Contact break | Lift the plumes by the edges, do not pull the wires |
Another common problem is the loss of water resistance after disassembly. The Mi A2 Lite does not have an official water protection certificate, but the body is still sealed with gaskets.
- ๐ก๏ธ All rubber pads (e.g. around buttons) are in place.
- ๐ฉ The screws are tightly twisted, but without a drag.
- ๐ฑ The back cover was up without gaps.
If after disassembly the phone becomes worse catch the network, check the antenna contacts on the board. Sometimes they oxidize or depart - in which case they need to be cleaned with alcohol and pressed.
