Why do you need to remove the Smartmi humidifier?
Xiaomi Smartmi air humidifiers (JSQ01ZM, JSQ02ZM, JSQ03ZM, and others) are known for their reliability, but even they require periodic maintenance. Over time, scale, mold or bacterial plaque accumulate inside the device, which can not always be eliminated by standard washing.
Deep cleaning of the ultrasonic membrane and tank, changing filters (if not removable), repairing electronics (for example, if the fan or control board malfunctions), or eliminating leakage caused by damage to the sealing rings. Also, disassembly is relevant if the device stops turning on, emits uncharacteristic sounds or does not spray water that the tank is full.
It is important to understand that Xiaomi does not provide official support for self-repair β the instructions for operation disassembly is not described, and the warranty is removed if the seals are damaged. However, with careful approach and compliance with our recommendations, you can service the device without risking it to disable.
Preparation for disassembly: tools and security measures
Before you start, make sure that the humidifier is off the grid in at least 30 minutes, which will eliminate the risk of electric shock, also drain the water completely from the tank and dry the device in an inverted state for 10-15 minutes.
- β Plastic blade (or mediator) - to disconnect the latches of the body without scratches.
- β Cross screwdriver (usually) PH0 or PH1) β for screws on the bottom panel.
- β Tweezers β to extract small parts (for example, sealing rings).
- β Soft fabric or wipes β so as not to scratch glossy surfaces.
- β Hair dryer (optional) - to dry the internal elements after cleaning.
In the Smartmi JSQ01ZM and JSQ02ZM, the case is fastened with plastic latches, not screws β they are easy to break with excessive force. If your model is older than 2020, check for hidden screws under stickers or rubber legs.
β οΈ Warning: Do not use metal tools to separate plastic parts, they leave microcracks that lead to leaks. If the latch does not respond, warm the body with a hair dryer (temperature not higher than 50).Β°C) - plastic will become more elastic.
Step-by-step instructions: how to disassemble the body of the humidifier
The disassembly process differs depending on the model, but the overall sequence of actions is as follows:
- Remove the top cover (water reservoir) and most models have a rotary mechanism that turns it counterclockwise before you click.
- Remove the filter (if it is removable) and rinse it under running water. In models without a removable filter, it can be integrated into the bottom of the case.
- Turn the device over and remove the rubber legs (if any) - screws are often hidden underneath them.
- Unscrew the screws on the bottom panel. JSQ03ZM has 4 screws, JSQ01ZM has 3 screws (one hidden under a serial number sticker).
- Separate the body with a plastic blade, starting at the corners. Move around the perimeter, gradually snapping the locks.
Once you remove the bottom panel, you'll have access to the internal components: the ultrasonic membrane, the fan, the control board and the power wires. Don't pull the wires -- they can be soldered to the board!

Cleaning and maintenance of internal components
When you disassemble the body, the first thing you do is look at the ultrasonic membrane, which is at the bottom of the device, and it looks like a round metal disc, and this is where the most common scaling accumulates, which reduces the spraying efficiency.
- Wet the soft fabric in a vinegar solution (1 part vinegar to 3 parts water) or a special scale removal remedy.
- Gently wipe the membrane without pressure - it is fragile and can deform.
- For hard-to-reach places, use a cotton swab dipped in the same solution.
- Wash the membrane with distilled water and dry with a hairdryer (cold mode).
Next, check the sealing rings on the tank and the bottom of the case. If they lose elasticity or crack, they need to be replaced, otherwise the device will leak. Smartmi models use rings of standard size 18Γ2 mm or 20Γ2 mm, which can be found in plumbing stores.
The fan (located next to the membrane) also requires attention, and dust and moisture can cause corrosion of the blades or make it difficult to rotate.
- π Blow the dust with a spray of compressed air.
- 𧴠Apply a drop of silicone lubricant to the fan axis (do not use oil-based oils!).
- π Manually scroll the blades - they should rotate without jamming.
β οΈ Note: If the fan is noisy or not rotating after cleaning, the problem may be the bearing or the motor, in which case the entire module will need to be replaced, and you can order it by the item. XMSH02WM (model JSQ01ZM/JSQ02ZM).
| Component | Signs of malfunction | Elimination |
|---|---|---|
| Ultrasonic membrane | Weak spray, white coating. | Cleaning with vinegar or citric acid |
| O-rings | Water flow, moisture on the body | Replacement with new ones (size 18Γ2 or 20Γ2 mm) |
| Fan | Noise, vibration, lack of airflow | Cleaning + Lubrication or Module Replacement |
| Management fee | Not switched on, flashing indicators | Checking contacts, replacing capacitors |
Disassembly of the management fee: when is it necessary?
If the humidifier doesn't turn on, doesn't respond to buttons, or makes errors (for example, a red light flashes), the problem may lie in the control board, and it's only worth disassembling if you have experience with electronics - careless actions can lead to short circuits.
To get to the fare:
- Disconnect all connectors from the board (remember their location or take a picture!).
- Unscrew the screws that fix the board to the body (usually 2-3 screws with a cross head).
- Carefully remove the charge, do not pull the power wires.
On the charge, pay attention to:
- π Capacitors β if they are swollen or leaked electrolyte, they need to be replaced.
- π soldered contacts β oxidized or detached tracks require soldering.
- π‘ Resistors and diodes - blackened details indicate overheating.
The most common malfunction in Smartmi models is the failure of the membrane control transistor (marked S8050 or C945). It can be replaced with a similar one, but this will require a soldering iron with a thin sting and solder.

Assembly of the humidifier after cleaning or repair
To assemble the device you need in reverse order, but taking into account several nuances:
- Lubricate the sealing rings with silicone lubrication (such as WD-40 Specialist) before installation β this will prolong their service life and prevent leakage.
- Check the position of the membrane, it should be flat, it should be smooth, it should be non-skewed. In the JSQ03ZM models, there is a small pad under the membrane - don't lose it!
- Twisting the screws without undue effort - the plastic of the body can crack. Optimal tightening moment: until light resistance.
- Before turning on, pour water and check the tightness: the device should not leak for 10-15 minutes.
After assembly, turn the humidifier on the network and run the test mode (if it is provided in your model). In Smartmi JSQ02ZM, you need to hold the power button for 5 seconds - the device will turn on the maximum spray level for 1 minute.

If the humidifier makes a loud noise after assembly, check if the fan blades are touching the wire, and also make sure the membrane is not in contact with the body, which can cause vibration.
Frequent mistakes in disassembly and how to avoid them
Even with care, users often make mistakes that cause the device to break down, and here are the most common ones:
- π§ Using the wrong tools -- metal screwdrivers or knives scratch the plastic and damage the latches. Always use a plastic shoulder blade.
- π§ Incomplete drying before assembly - moisture inside the housing leads to corrosion of contacts and short circuit.Dry parts for at least 1 hour.
- π Improper connection of connectors - if you confuse polarity when you connect a membrane or a fan, the device can fail. Always take pictures of the original position of the parts.
- π Excessive disassembly effort -- plastic latches break if you try to force them apart.
In the Smartmi JSQ01ZM and JSQ02ZM models, the water level sensor calibration can be lost after disassembly. To reset the error, disconnect the device from the network for 10 minutes, then turn on and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
β οΈ Warning: If the humidifier stopped spraying after disassembly, but the membrane and fan are working, check the water level sensor. It may be contaminated or displaced. JSQ03ZM The sensor is located on the board and looks like a small black cylinder with two contacts.
