Xiaomi Redmi 9 is one of the most popular budget smartphones, but even it is not immune to breakdowns: a broken screen, a dead battery or problems with the speaker may require disassembling the device. In this article, you will find detailed instructions for disassembling the device, taking into account all the nuances of the model, including hidden latches, typical beginnersβ mistakes and tips on how not to damage the plumes.
It's important to understand that breaking a smartphone is always a risk, and even with careful action, you can run into damage to your flexible plumes, break the contacts, or lose your tightness (which is critical for protecting against moisture). If you've never held an electronic screwdriver, you'd better go to a service center, but if you're willing to take the risk, our guide will help you get it right.
We will take a look at the process using the standard version of Redmi 9 (codenamed lancelot), but most of the instructions will also be suitable for the Redmi 9A/9C/9T modifications β the differences will be specified separately.
Preparation for disassembly: tools and security measures
Before you start, make sure you have everything you need, the wrong tool is the main cause of damage to the body or internal components.
- π§ Plastic blades (2-3 - for gently putting the lid and disconnecting the plumes. Metal mediators should not be used!
- π© The screwdriver (PH00 or PH0) β A typical screwdriver won't work, it'll rip the slats off.
- π₯ Dryer or thermo-air station - for softening the glue under the back cover (temperature 60-80)Β°C).
- 𧲠Magnetic mat or container - so as not to lose small screws (there are more than 15 of them in Redmi 9!).
- π± Suction cups (2 pcs) - help lift the lid after heating. You can use glass suction cups.
- π Multimeter (optional) β to check the battery or contacts after disassembly.
Also, prepare the workspace: it should be clean, well-lit and draft-free (dust can get inside your smartphone); put a soft cloth or rubber mat on the table so that you don't scratch the case. If you disassemble the phone because of fluid, dry it in rice or silica gel for at least 24 hours beforehand - moisture inside can cause a short circuit when turned on.
β οΈ Warning: If your Redmi 9 is still warranty, disassembly will invalidate it! The opening of the case leaves marks on the stickers that are checked at service centers. Also remember that lithium-ion batteries are dangerous if damaged - do not puncture them and do not expose them to heavy heat.
Step 1: Removing the back cover - how not to break the latches
The back cover of the Xiaomi Redmi 9 is attached to glue and plastic latches, and the main difficulty is not to damage them when removed.
- Turn off the phone and remove it. SIM-card from the tray (it can interfere with disassembly).
- Heat the cover with a hair dryer around the perimeter for 2-3 minutes, holding it at a distance of 5-7 cm.
- Stick the suction cups to the bottom and top of the lid (closer to the edges). Pull up carefully -- if the lid doesn't lend itself, heat up for another 30 seconds.
- Insert a plastic blade into the gap and slowly lead it along the body, snapping the mounts. Start at the bottom edge (there are fewer plumes).
At this stage, many people make mistakes:
- π¨ Use metal tools - they scratch the body and can tear plumes.
- π₯ Overheat the cover - this deforms the plastic and damages the adhesive base.
- β‘ Tore off the cover sharply - so break the latches at the battery connector or camera.
If the lid doesn't respond, check to see if there are any unlatched latches left. In Redmi 9, they're located at the Type-C connector, near the volume buttons, and at the top microphone. Also, pay attention to the sealing pad, which can't be damaged, otherwise the phone will lose its dust protection.
βοΈ Preparation for lid removal
Step 2: Battery shutdown β why itβs critical
When the lid is removed, the first thing you do is disconnect the battery, which prevents short circuits from being broken down further, and in Redmi 9, the battery connector is located at the bottom of the board and is covered with a black protective film.
Algorithm of action:
- Carefully put a black insulation tape on the battery connector (it is not glued much).
- Take a plastic spatula and lightly lift the battery plume up.
- Check that the contacts are not bent or oxidized. If there is a green coating, wipe them with alcohol.
In Redmi 9, the battery is glued to the body with double-sided tape, but you don't have to tear it off at this point, it's only done when you replace it. If you accidentally rip the battery plume, the phone won't turn on until you replace it or solder a new one, and the service charge you 1,500 rubles for this job.
β οΈ Warning: If the battery is swelling (the lid is bulging), don't try to puncture or heat it! Bloated batteries are prone to spontaneous combustion. In this case, immediately take the phone to the service or dispose of it according to the rules (at the electronics points of reception).
What to do if the battery plume is oxidized?
Step 3: Removing the motherboard β where the βtrapsβ are hidden
The Redmi 9 motherboard is mounted on 15 screws of different lengths and several metal latches, and the key here is not to confuse the screws when you reverse assemble, otherwise you can damage the board or the case.
Procedure:
- Unscrew all the screws, starting with the longest ones (they are located at the Type-C connector and speaker). Place them on the magnetic mat in order of extraction.
- Disconnect all plumes: π Display plume (the widest, at the top of the board). π Dynamic plume and microphone (thin, at the bottom edge). π· Main camera plume (black, with metal fastening). π Power button plume (small, at the right edge).
Carefully tuck the board with a plastic blade on the side of the Type-C connector and raise it at an angle of 30-45 Β°. Don't pull up sharply - you can break the antenna contacts!
Here are the typical mistakes when collecting fees:
- π§ Using metal tools - leads to closure of contacts.
- π Mixed screws β long screws in short holes damage the board.
- πΆ Break antenna wires - they are thin and fastened to the board by soldering.
| Type of screw | Location. | Length (mm) | Number of |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cross (PH00) | At the Type-C connector. | 4.5 | 4 |
| Cross (PH00) | Around the camera | 3.0 | 6 |
| Cross (PH0) | The speaker. | 2.5 | 3 |
| Cross (PH00) | Under the board (screen mounting) | 5.0 | 2 |
Masters' advice: before removing the board, take a picture of it from all sides, which will help you connect the plumes correctly when you reassemble them. SIM-maps are easy to bend.
π‘
If the screw doesn't twist, don't force it, you'll break the slits. Instead, put some WD-40 or alcohol on it, wait 5 minutes and try again.
Step 4: Screen Disassembly β When to Replace and How Not to Damage the Trains
The Redmi 9 screen consists of three parts: touch glass, display module and backlight. If you have only cracked glass, you can replace it separately (cheaper), but if the display itself is damaged (colored stripes, broken zones), you will have to change the module entirely.
To take the screen:
- Heat the display edge with a dryer (70Β°C) for 1-2 minutes. The glue under the screen is more resistant than under the back cover.
- Insert a plastic blade into the gap between the screen and the frame (start at the bottom edge). Carefully guide it around the perimeter, snapping the mounts.
- Lift the screen 1-2 cm and disconnect the plumes: πΊ Display plume (wide, in the center of the board). βοΈ Sensor plume (thin, next to the display).
Pay attention to two key details:
- πΉ The home button plume is hidden under the screen (if you have one in your modification), and it is easy to break if you take it off carelessly.
- πΉ At the top of the screen is a notification LED β do not pull the wires going to it.
β οΈ Warning: If you have yellow spots or stains after changing the screen, you have not warmed up the glue enough to reheat the screen and press it evenly (for example, by putting it under a heavy book for 10 minutes).
π‘
When changing the screen, always check the compatibility of the model! For example, the display from Redmi 9A will not be suitable for the Redmi 9 due to different plume connectors.
Step 5: Replace the battery, camera, and other components
If you've got to this point, the main showdown is behind you, and now we can start replacing the specifics.
π Battery replacement
The battery in Redmi 9 is glued to the body with double-sided tape to extract it.
- Put a plastic blade on the battery from any end.
- Pull the black band that's under the battery, and if you don't have one, gently pull the battery around the perimeter.
- Install a new battery, having previously cleared the place of glue residues with alcohol.
π· Camera replacement
The camera module is attached to two screws and a plume.
- Disconnect the plume by pulling the black tongue of the connector.
- Unscrew the screws and carefully remove the module.
- Install the new camera without distortions - otherwise the photos will be blurred.
π Replacement of speaker or microphone
The speaker and microphone are at the bottom of the phone, and they're attached to glue and plastic latches to replace them.
- Disconnect the plume from the board.
- Put the speaker on the shoulder blade (it is glued to the body).
- Install a new speaker, check it before final assembly.
Parts prices for Redmi 9 (2026):
| Component | Cost (rupe) | Difficulty replacing |

Reverse Assembly: How to Avoid Mistakes
Building the Redmi 9 after repair is as much a process as disassembling.
- π§ Screw them in the same order they were twisted. Long screws in short holes will damage the board!
- πΆ Trains: make sure they're all connected before the click.A latched plume can cause the screen to flicker or buttons to break.
- π Battery: Make sure its contacts are clean and not bent before connecting.
- π Sealing: If you removed the back cover, replace the adhesive tape around the perimeter (sold in remakes).
After assembly:
- Do not turn on the phone right away β wait 10-15 minutes (especially if you were warming with a hair dryer).
- Check all the functions: sensor, cameras, speaker, microphone, charging.
- If something doesn't work, take the phone apart again and check the plumes.
β οΈ Note: If after assembly the phone does not turn on or overheats, most likely, you forgot to connect the battery plume or short contacts on the board.
π‘
To check the leakage after assembly, place the phone in a silica gel bag for 12 hours, and if condensation appears inside, there are cracks somewhere.
