Xiaomi Air 2 headphones are a popular model with good sound and convenient ergonomics, but even they are not immune to breakdowns. Most often, users face problems with a falling case, a broken microphone or a discharged battery in one of the headphones, in which case disassembly of the device becomes necessary - whether it is for cleaning contacts, replacing the battery or repairing the speaker.
But it's not as easy to make out the Xiaomi Air 2 as it seems, the headphones are sealed, and the inside is brittle plumes and microscopic details. One wrong move can cause contacts to break or the board to damage. In this article, we'll go through the disassembly process in detail, tell you what tools you need, and warn you of the typical mistakes that beginners make. If you've never repaired electronics before, don't worry: even a beginner can handle our instructions.
Preparation for disassembly: tools and materials
Before you start disassembling, make sure you have everything you need, and without the right tools, you risk damaging the body or the internal components, and here's the minimum kit you'll need:
- π§ Plastic mediator or guitar mediator to gently tweak the body. Metal instruments can leave scratches!
- π¨ Thin screwdriver (0.6-0.8 mm) - for unscrewing screws (if they are in your modification).
- 𧲠Magnetic mat or container β to avoid losing small details.
- 𧴠Isopropyl alcohol (90%+) β Cleaning contacts and removing glue residues.
- π₯ Hair dryer or thermoair station β if the body is glued too strongly (needed for heating).
- πΈ Smartphone with camera β to take photos of each step (useful when building).
Also, prepare the workspace: it should be well lit, draft-free (so that small details donβt evaporate) and with a soft substrate (for example, a napkin) so that you donβt scratch the case. If youβre disassembling the headphones for the first time, we recommend watching the video instruction (link at the end of the article) β this will help visualize the process.
β οΈ Warning: Do not use a knife or other sharp objects to tamper with the body! This is almost guaranteed to cause plastic chips or damage to internal components.
Step 1: Disconnect the headphones from the case and from each other
The first step is to separate the headphones from the charge case and separate them from each other, which is easier than it seems, but there are nuances:
- Remove both headphones from the case and turn off Bluetooth on your smartphone so they donβt connect automatically.
- Press and hold the touch buttons on both headphones for 10 to 15 seconds until the lights go out. This will force the devices to turn off.
- Carefully pull the headphones to the sides, they should disconnect. If this has not happened, then they are still on (repeat step 2).
If the headphones do not separate even after turning off, the problem may be stuck contacts (often after moisture is ingested).
- π§ Wipe the contacts on headphones and in the case with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol.
- π Try to separate them again after drying (10-15 minutes).
β οΈ Warning: If the headphones don't turn off with the buttons, don't try to force them apart! This can damage the plumes inside. In this case, first disassemble the case (see next step), and then disconnect the battery.
Step 2: Disassembly of the headphone body (Step-by-step with photo)
The most important step is opening the body. In Xiaomi Air 2, it consists of two parts glued together.
- Heat the case. If the headphones are new or the glue is fresh, the case may not respond. In this case, heat it carefully with a hair dryer (temperature is not higher than 60-70).Β°C) for 30 to 60 seconds. This will soften the glue.
- Put a plastic mediator in the gap between the front and back of the housing (usually near the microphone or LED), carefully guide the mediator around the perimeter, separating the halves.
- Remove the top cover. Once the glue has gone, remove the top of the body. Be careful, there may be speaker plumes or antennas glued inside!
If the hull doesn't give in, don't put too much effort into it.
- π₯ The glue will not heat up enough (repeat heating).
- π§ You are in a latched area (try starting somewhere else).
- π οΈ Inside there are hidden screws (in some versions of the Air 2 Pro they are under the stickers).

Step 3: Removing the battery and board
When you take the lid off, you'll see the insides of the headphone: the battery, the chip board and the speaker, and the key is to not damage the plumes that connect the components.
- The battery is disconnected. It's glued to the body with double-sided tape, gently put it in a mediator, and disconnect the red and black wires from the board (they are soldered or connected through a connector).
- Withdrawal. The charge is mounted on latches or screws. If you have screws, unscrew them with a screwdriver. Then gently raise the charge by holding the edges (don't pull the plumes!).
- Disconnect speaker. The speaker can be glued or fixed by latches. If it's not removed, don't use force, check if there are any hidden attachments.
Critical moment: the Xiaomi Air 2 board has a microscopic Bluetooth chip (marked as BD4958 If you're not handling it carefully, it's easy to tear it off, and if you do, it'll become non-repairable.

| Component | How fastened | Risks in extraction |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | Double-sided scotch + soldered-wire | Breaking wires in sharp motion |
| Payment | Screws or latches | Damage to Bluetooth plumes or chips |
| Dynamician | Glue or latch | Membrane rupture under heavy pressure |
| antenna | Sticked to the body | Breaking contacts with careless withdrawal |

If the battery is swelling, don't try to puncture it! This can cause fire. Carefully remove it and dispose of it according to the rules of your region.
Step 4: Diagnostics and Repairs of Faults
Now that the earbud is disassembled, we can start diagnosing the most common problems and how to fix them.
1.The earphone does not turn on or charge
Reasons:
- π Battery is out or out of order. Check the voltage with a multimeter (must be 3.7β4.2V). Less 3.0V β battery needs to be replaced.
- π The contacts have been oxidized. Clean them with alcohol and clean them gently with a lastic (if there is corrosion).
- π₯ The fuse on the board burned, look for a little black chip marked with a marking. F1 or FUSE. If it is blackened, you need a soldering iron to replace it.
2. Bad sound or lack of sound
What to check:
- π Speaker. Connect it directly to the sound source (e.g., through an audio tester). If there's no sound, the speaker is faulty.
- πΆ Bluetooth antenna. Make sure it's not detached from the board. Often the problem is solved by soldering contacts.
- ποΈ Smartphone settings. Sometimes the problem is Settings. β Bluetooth β Additional settings β Sound quality (exhibit) SBC instead AAC).
3. The microphone is not working.
Possible causes:
- π€ Pollution of the microphone hole. Clean it with a needle or compressed air.
- π Microphone contact break on the board. Check the circuit with a multimeter in vertebrae mode.
- π Firmware failure. Try resetting your headphones to factory settings (press both buttons for 20 seconds).
If you're not sure about your soldering skills, you should contact the service, for example, replacing the battery or the speaker will cost 500-1500. β½, It is cheaper to buy new headphones.

Step 5: Building headphones after repair
Putting Xiaomi Air 2 back together is harder than disassembling, which is where accuracy is important.
- Check all the plumes and contacts. Make sure nothing is bent or torn. If you've been taking photos of the process, check the photo.
- Hold the battery. Use a new double-sided tape (you can take it from the old phone battery). Don't pull the wires!
- Set the board in place. Set it with screws (if any) and make sure the latches are snapped.
- Glue the body together. B-7000 Or similar (don't use superglue - it can damage plastic!) Apply a thin layer along the edge and connect the halves.
- Press the case. Place the earpiece under the press (for example, between two books) for 10-15 minutes to hold the glue.
After assembly:
- π Charge headphones in the case for at least 2 hours.
- π± Connect them to your phone and check the sound, microphone and touch buttons.
- π If something doesnβt work, take it apart again and check the connections.
β οΈ Attention: If the headphone becomes worse after assembly, it's probably not tightly glued or the contacts are damaged. Take it apart again and check the battery mount.
π‘
The most common mistake in assembly is torn or twisted plumes, which cause contacts to break and break again. Always stack the wires as they were originally laid!
Common Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
Even experienced craftsmen sometimes make mistakes when disassembling Xiaomi Air 2, here are the most common of them and ways to prevent them:
| Mistake. | Effects of consequences | How to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Use of metal tools | Scratches on the case, damage to the board | Use only plastic mediator. |
| Heating of the case above 70Β°C | Melting plastic, battery damage | Control the temperature of the hair dryer with a thermometer |
| Sharp pulling of plumes | Contact break, dynamic breakdown | Carefully put the tails on a thin screwdriver |
| Using superglue for the body | Plastic damage, difficulty in next disassembly | Use glue. B-7000 or similar |
| Untested parts (e.g. battery) | Battery bloating, short circuit | Buy parts only from trusted sellers |
If you make one of these mistakes, don't panic. Most of the time, you can fix it.
- π§ Scratches on the case can be masked with matte tape or special paint for plastic.
- π Cut off contacts can sometimes be soldered back (if you have a soldering station).
- π The billowing battery needs to be replaced urgently - further operation is dangerous!
If the headphones are unstable after repair (for example, spontaneously switch off), it may be a problem with poor Bluetooth antenna contact. Take the headphone apart again and check if the wires are soldered to the board.
