Xiaomi Redmi 4X is one of the most popular budget smartphones of 2017, which is still in active use. However, over time, even such a reliable device can have problems, from a dead battery to a faulty speaker or camera. If you decide to repair the phone yourself, disassembly is the first and most important step.
In this article, you will find step-by-step instructions with photos, a list of tools you need, and key warnings to avoid typical mistakes: how to remove the back cover, unplug the plumes and get to the internal components without damaging them.
Important: Disassembling the Redmi 4X requires care and patience. If you've never done electronics repair, you better practice on an old device or go to a service center. But if you're ready, get going!
Preparation for disassembly: tools and security measures
Before you start disassembling the Xiaomi Redmi 4X, make sure you have everything you need.Absence of even one tool can damage the body or internal parts. Here is the minimum kit you will need:
- π§ Plastic mediators (2-3 (a) - for the tidying of the lid and the detachment of the latches.
- βοΈ Cross screwdriver (PH00 or PH0) β screw-twisting.
- 𧲠Magnetic mat or container β to avoid losing small details.
- π₯ Hair dryer or thermal air station - for softening the glue (if the cover is glued).
- πΈ Smartphone or camera β to capture each stage of disassembly.
- 𧴠Isopropyl alcohol (90%+) β Cleaning contacts and removing glue residues.
Also, make sure your workspace is well lit, clean and draft-free. Work on a flat-surface table to avoid falling out of parts. If you're taking your phone apart for the first time, we recommend watching YouTube videos to help visualize the process.
β οΈ Warning: Do not use metal tools to lid! They can leave scratches on the body or damage plumes. Plastic mediators or guitar mediators are the best choice.
Step 1: Turn off the phone and retrieve SIM-map
The first and mandatory step is to turn off the power completely, and even if the phone is discharged, it still needs to be turned off via the menu or forcibly (pressing the power button for 10-15 seconds), which will prevent short circuits during disassembly.
Next, remove the tray for SIM-cards and microSD with a paper clip or a special key. 4X It's on the left end of the body. Press the hole until you click it, then pull the tray out carefully. Don't put too much effort -- if the tray doesn't come out, check if the tip of the staples is bent.

If you are planning to replace your battery or other components, charge your phone at least 30% before disassembly, which will help avoid problems when testing after assembly, and we also recommend backing up the data, as if you disassemble it sloppy, there is a risk of memory damage.
Step 2: Removing the back cover is the most difficult step
The back cover of the Xiaomi Redmi 4X is mounted on latches and glue. Unlike the newer models, there are no screws that hold the lid, but that doesn't make the process easier. The main difficulty is not to damage the fingerprint plume (if you have one in your modification) and leave no traces on the plastic.
Algorithm of action:
- Heat the edges of the cover with a hair dryer (~60Β°C) for 1-2 minutes. This will soften the glue.
- Insert a plastic mediator into the gap between the lid and the case (start at the lower right corner where the tray notch is located). SIM-map).
- Carefully swipe the mediator along the edge, alternately snapping the clamps. Take your time - there are about 20 of them!
- When all latches are disconnected, remove the lid starting at the bottom.
If the lid doesn't lend itself, don't force it. You've probably missed a few latches or the glue isn't warm enough. Reheat and try again. On some Redmi 4Xs, the lid can be particularly hard-stick, in which case the isopropyl alcohol applied around the perimeter will help.
What to do if the lid is cracked?
β οΈ Note: Some versions of Redmi 4X The fingerprint scanner plume is glued to the lid. If you pull the lid sharply, the plume may come off. Before you take it off, check if there's a thin cable behind the lid.
Step 3: Shutting down the battery β why itβs critical
Once you remove the lid, you'll see a battery that takes up almost half of the interior space. Before touching any other components, be sure to disconnect the battery from the motherboard. This will prevent short circuits and chip damage.
The battery in the Redmi 4X is mounted on double-sided tape to extract it:
- Find the battery plume (it is located next to the bottom of the board, under a black insulation tape).
- Carefully put the connector on the plastic mediator and unplug it. Don't pull the wires!
- If the battery is swelling, don't try to puncture it or bend it, it's dangerous.
To fully remove the battery, you will need to tamper with a mediator or plastic card, preheat the body with a hairdryer (temperature ~50 Β° C. Be careful: do not use metal objects so as not to puncture the battery. If the battery does not come out, do not make excessive efforts - you better leave it in place and work around.
| Component | Location. | Risks of careless treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | Under the lid, under the lid. | Short circuit, swelling, electrolyte leakage |
| The fingerprint scanner plume | Under the lid, right | Contacts break, loss of functionality |
| Antenna wires | Top of the pay | Damage to Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module |
| Camera. | Upper left corner | Scratches on the lens, shifting focus |
Step 4: Removing the motherboard β working with screws and plumes
The Redmi 4X motherboard is mounted on 10 screws of varying lengths, and this is one of the most insidious things about screws that, if you mix them up when you build them, they can damage the board or the body, and we recommend that you arrange them in order or take pictures of each one's location.
Procedure:
- Unscrew all screws (use a magnetic screwdriver to keep them from falling).
- Disconnect the plumes: π± Display plume (in the center of the board, under a metal screen). π Dynamic plume (bottom, next to the charging connector). π· The front and main camera plumes (top of the board).
Carefully tuck the board with a plastic mediator. Start at the top edge, where there are no connectors.
If the board fails, check if all screws are twisted and all plumes are disconnected. Don't force - there may be hidden mounts under the board. Some versions of the Redmi 4X have additional antenna wires under the board that are easy to tear off.
π‘
If the screws are rusty or not twisting, put some WD-40 or alcohol on them. Wait 5-10 minutes and try again. Don't use pliers, it'll ruin the slime.
Step 5: Disassemble the screen when necessary
In most cases, you don't need to take your screen off to repair the Xiaomi Redmi 4X, but if you need to replace the display module, touchscreen or front camera, you'll have to disassemble this part, which is the riskiest stage, because the display plumes are extremely fragile.
Instructions for screen removal:
- Heat the edges of the screen with a hair dryer (~70Β°C) for 2-3 minutes. This will soften the glue.
- Cover the screen with paint tape to protect it from scratches.
- Insert a plastic mediator into the gap between the screen and the case (start at the bottom edge).
- Carefully swipe the mediator around the perimeter, separating the screen, and be especially careful about the plume area.
- When the screen is separated, disconnect the display plume and touchscreen (they are located under metal protection).
π‘
If you don't turn on after you've assembled the phone, don't panic. You probably forgot to plug in the battery or one of the plumes, disassemble the phone again and check all the connections.
