How to check the year of release of the Xiaomi phone: official and hidden methods

Why it’s important to know the date of Xiaomi’s smartphone production – and where to look for it

You bought the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 on a promotional basis, but you doubt that the phone is new? Or you want to check if you sold a model released in 2021 under the guise of 2023? The date of production of the smartphone affects the warranty life, battery status and even market value. Check the IMEI on one of the official services:

Method 2: Serial number (S/N) decoding – works for 80% of models

The serial number (S/N) of Xiaomi’s phone encodes the date and location of production.

Method 3: Engineering menu – hidden production date

Xiaomi’s service menu contains information about the build date, but access to it depends on the processor:

Unique method for Qualcomm: If standard codes don't work, try:

1. Install the Qualcomm Mode app.
2. Select Engineering Mode → Hardware Testing → View Manufacturing Date.

⚠️ Note: Do not change the settings in the engineering menu unless you are sure of their purpose! For example, the Band Mode parameter affects the operation of the mobile network, and RF Test can lead to overheating of the communication module.

Method 4: Checking the box and components

If you have the original box, you can find indirect indications of the date of production:

• 📦 Barcode: The first 4 digits after the country of origin (e.g. 6941230...) can encode the year and month.
• 🔋 Battery: Battery sticker often shows date in format YYYY-MM-DD (for example 2022.05.10).

How to distinguish a fake from the original by date of production

Fraudsters often forge not only the phones themselves, but also their "history": Here are signs that the date of production is rigged:

• ❌ Use unofficial services: sites like "imei-checker-free.com" often give inaccurate data or require payment.
• ❌ Don’t take into account regional features: phones for China (CN) Global and Global Markets may have different production dates under the same model.

To avoid mistakes:

1. Check the data in at least 2-3 sources (IMEI + S/N + engineering menu).
2. Check the results with the information in the forums (4PDA, Mi Community).
3. Note that phones released at the end of the year (November-December) may have next year’s firmware.
