Knowing the date of Xiaomiβs smartphone production is critical when buying a used device, warranty repairs, or evaluating battery wear. For example, a phone released in 2021 but bought in 2026 likely has already run out of half its battery life. And some models (like the Redmi Note 10 Pro) have had batches with defective displays in certain months β this information will help avoid problems.
In this article, we will examine all the official and hidden methods of verifying the date of manufacture, including decryption of serial numbers, box analysis and even engineering menus.
Spoiler: The most reliable way is to combine checking the box with the serial number through imei.info, but if you only have a phone without packaging, you'll have to use alternative methods that you probably didn't know about.
1. Box Check: Where to look for the date and how to decrypt it
On the original Xiaomi packaging, the date of production is listed in two places: on the serial number sticker and on the barcode.Look for a white sticker that says Made in China/India - there will be a line of the form MFRDATE: 2023-05 or 2305 (year and month).
The format of the date depends on the year of issue:
- π Until 2022: YYMM (for example, 2108 = 2021).
- π 2023β2026 years: YYYY-MM (for example, 2023-11 = November 2023).
- π Models for India: full format may be specified DD/MM/YYYY.
β οΈ Note: On fake boxes, the date is often missing or specified in a non-standard format (e.g. 2023.05.15).The original Xiaomi packaging never contains a dot or slash in the production date.
If the sticker is damaged, check the barcode on the back of the box, and it encrypts the same information: the first 4 digits after the prefix 69 (China code) or 890 (India code) is the date in YYMM format.
π‘
Take a picture of the sticker from the box before buying a used phone. Sellers often substitute packaging, and the original sticker will help prove the fraud.
2. Decoding of the serial number (S/N): algorithm for all models
The serial number (S/N) is a unique device identifier that contains an encrypted production date.
- π± In settings: Settings β The phone. β General information β Serial number.
- π¦ On the box (near the IMEI).
- π Under the battery (for models with removable battery).
The structure of the serial number Xiaomi is as follows:
XM [Model Code] [Year] [Month] [Serial Number]Example: XM8T5230712345678, where:
- 8T5 is the model code (Redmi Note 8T).
- 2307 - Date: July 2023.
β οΈ Attention: For models POCO And Black Shark is different. POCO F5 The date can be encrypted in 5-8 characters of the serial number. Use imei.info for accurate decryption.
| Model | Date format in S/N | Example | Date of production |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 12 | YYMM (symbols 5β8) | XM1232305... | May 2023 |
| Xiaomi 13 Pro | YYYYMM (symbols 4β9) | XM13202301... | January 2023 |
| POCO X5 | YM (symbols 3β4) | PCX532... | February 2023 |

3. Hidden engineering codes: how to find out the date without a box
If you don't have a box and the serial number doesn't decrypt, use the engineering menu, which works on all models, including Redmi, POCO and Mi, but you need to be careful - don't change the settings on this menu!
Instructions:
- Open the Phone app.
- Enter the combination: ##4636###.
- Go to the tab Information about the phone.
- Look for Manufacture Date or MF Date.
β οΈ Note: On some firmware (for example, MIUI 14 Global) the engineering menu can be blocked, in which case use the alternative code: ##284## (data packet test), where the Version Info section sometimes displays the build date.
If the engineering menu is not available, try it. ADB-command (requires PC and enabled debugging on the USB):
adb shell getprop ro.boot.ddr_infoIn the answer, look for a line of view manufacture_date=20230515.
What to do if the engineering menu is not opened?
4. Online services for verification: which are working in 2026
If manual methods didnβt work, use specialized services. We tested 5 platforms and selected the ones that are relevant for Xiaomi in 2026:
- π imei.info β shows the date of production S/N or IMEI. Free for you. 3 day-test.
- π SNDeepInfo β decrypts the serial numbers of Xiaomi, POCO and Redmi.$ request).
- π IMEI-Number β determines the country of production and the approximate year of release.
β οΈ Note: Services such as imei.pro or imei24.com The wrong date for new Xiaomi models (2023-2026) is often shown because their databases have not been updated.
An example of a report with imei.info for the Redmi Note 12 Pro+:
Model: Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G (22101316C)
Manufacture Date: October 2022
Country: Chinaπ‘
Online services are the fastest way, but their data can become outdated. Always double-check the result through a serial number or box.
5. Analysis of firmware and system logs: for advanced users
If the phone is already in hand, you can calculate the date of production from the firmware assembly date, which is suitable for devices that have not been reflashed by the user.
Instructions:
- Go to Settings β About Phone β MIUI version.
- Click 7 times on the kernel version bar to activate Developer Mode.
- Back to Settings β Additionally. β For developers.
- Enable the Error Log and export the log.
- In the logcat.txt file, look for a line ro.boot.ddr_info or ro.boot.date.
Example of the logo for Xiaomi 13 Lite:
[ro.boot.ddr_info]: manufacture_date=20230310
[ro.build.date.utc]: 1678454400 (10 March 2023)β οΈ Note: The firmware build date (ro.build.date) may differ from the phoneβs production date by 1-3 months, as Xiaomi sometimes updates software on already released devices.
π‘
If there is no date in the logs, try to view battery information through the AccuBattery app. The Health section sometimes displays the date of the first charging cycle, which coincides with the date of production.
Physical examination: what gives the age of the phone
Even without technical data, you can approximately determine the age of Xiaomi by external signs:
- π Battery: If the capacity in the settings β Battery shows less than 90% of the factory, phone older than 1.5-2 years.
- πΈ Camera: On models up to 2022 (e.g. Redmi Note 10), lenses are often covered with yellow plaque from time to time.
- π οΈ Corps: Phones 2020-2021 (Mi) 10T, POCO X3) have a characteristic wear of paint on metal buttons.
- π Charging port: On devices older than 3 years connector USB-C frequently shattered or has traces of oxidation.
β οΈ Note: On fake Xiaomi (especially Redmi models) 9A and POCO M3) The production date on the box and in the system can be forged:
- IMEI matching on the box and phone (*#06#).
- Build quality: The original devices have uniform gaps between the body and the screen.
- Firmware: Fakes often run on custom versions of Android without MIUI.
7. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
When checking the production date, users often encounter false data.
- β Trust date on check: The check shows the date of sale, not production. The difference can be up to 1-2 years (especially for phones in stock).
- β Use it. IMEI date-setting: IMEI It contains only model and country information, not release date.
- β Confusing the firmware and production date: In Settings β The phone displays the date of the software assembly, which may be newer than the device itself.
πΉ How to avoid mistakes:
- Always check data from three sources: box + serial number + engineering menu.
- For POCO and Black Shark models, use specialized services (e.g. sndeepinfo.com).
- If the dates donβt match, check the phone for originality via IMEI at mi.com/verify.
π‘
The most common mistake is to believe only one source, even the original box can come from another phone (sellers sometimes substitute packages).
