Have you bought a Xiaomi laptop from your hands, lost a box, or just forgotten its model? Without an exact name, it is difficult to find drivers, firmware or accessories. In this article, we will analyze all possible ways, from the obvious (viewing the case) to the hidden (teams in the terminal). Importantly, Xiaomi has two main lines of laptops β Mi Notebook (budget) and RedmiBook (mid segment), and the methods for determining the model are slightly different.
Some people confuse the serial number with the model of the device β these are different things: the serial number is for warranty, and the model is for finding compatible software. We'll show you how not to confuse them and where to look for the right information. If your laptop doesn't turn on, there are ways to identify the model even in this state.
1. Inspection of the case: where Xiaomi hides the model
The easiest way is to look carefully at the laptop, and the manufacturer usually duplicates the information in several places so that the user can find it even without turning on the device.
Let's start with the bottom cover. Turn over your laptop and look for a small text sticker. Xiaomi has it most often located closer to the center or to one of the corners.
- π Model Name or Model Number: This is the full model (e.g. RedmiBook 14). II Mi Notebook Pro 15.6").
- π Type or Product Name β sometimes hidden under this name.
- β οΈ S/N β This is a serial number, we do not need it (but it can be useful for warranty service).
If the sticker is erased or missing, check the package (if it is retained). The model is shown on the end side or under the barcode. Also look at the charger - some Xiaomi models duplicate the name of the laptop on the power supply (for example, For Mi Notebook Air 12.5).
β οΈ Note: Some models (such as the Mi Notebook Pro X 15) have a sticker hidden under rubber legs, and carefully apply a plastic card to avoid damage.
2. System information in Windows
If the laptop is turned on, the fastest way is to use the built-in Windows tools. Open Start β Settings β System β About System. In the Device Characteristics section, find the line "Model." Xiaomi can look like this:
- π₯οΈ Mi Notebook Pro 15.6 2020
- π» RedmiBook 14 II (JYU4297CN)
- π XMA1901 β internal designation (will need to be deciphered).
If you only see a Notebook or XIAOMI instead of a model, try another method:
- Press Win + R, enter msinfo32 and press Enter.
- In the window that opens, look for the lines "Model" and "Manufacturer".
- If this is empty, go to the BIOS method.
Some Xiaomi laptops (especially older Mi Notebook Air lineups) may not display the model correctly due to the lack of drivers, in which case update system management through Device Manager.
π‘
If System Information only shows code (e.g., JYU4297CN), copy it and search for a transcript on Xiaomiβs support site, often an internal model designation for a specific region.
3. Command Prompt: for advanced users
This method is suitable if the system settings do not show the model or you prefer to work with the console. Open the Command Prompt (Win + R β cmd β Enter) and type:
wmic csproduct get name, identifyingnumberAs a result, you will see two lines:
- Name is the full name of the model (e.g. RedmiBook 16 (JYU4301CN)).
- IdentifyingNumber is a serial number (we don't need it).
If the team has returned the void, try an alternative:
systeminfo | findstr /B /C: "System model"Note that some Xiaomi laptops (especially those with Chinese firmware) may output in English or in code format (e.g., XMA1901) in which case use the decryption table below.
β οΈ Note: If the command line gives a "wmic" error that is not an internal or external command, it means that the system files are corrupted. DISM or SFC.
4. BIOS/UFEI: When Windows is Not Helping
If the laptop is powered on but not booting the system (or you have Linux), the model can be found through the BIOS.
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press the power button and press F2 multiple times (or Del, depending on the model).
- In the BIOS, go to the Main or System Information tab.
- Find the product name or system model.
Xiaomi in the BIOS model can be displayed in one of the formats:
- π Full title: RedmiBook 14 II.
- π’ Code marking: JYU4297CN (need to decipher).
- π₯οΈ Series + Year 2020 Mi Notebook Pro.
If you canβt log in to the BIOS (for example, you have a password), try a Linux boot drive. In most distributions, the model is displayed in the terminal after you enter the command:
sudo dmidecode -s system-product-nameEnter the BIOS (F2/Del when enabled)
Find the Main or System Info tab
Copy Product Name or System Model
Check with the Xiaomi codesheet (if necessary)
Exit without saving (Esc) β Exit Without Saving)-->
5.Serial number: if nothing helps
If all previous methods have failed, you can try to identify the model by the serial number (S/N). It is indicated on the case sticker or in the BIOS. Xiaomi serial usually consists of 14-16 characters and begins with letters (for example, L19C5A123456789).
To decipher it:
- Go to the Xiaomi support website.
- Select the "Check Warranty Status" section.
- Enter the serial number and the captcha.
- The system will show you a model of your device (if it is original).
If the site does not recognize serial, check:
- π€ Correctness of input (often confused 1 and I, 0 and O).
- π Region of purchase (Chinese models may not be displayed on the global website).
- β οΈ authenticity of the device (fakes often have incorrect devices) S/N).
An alternative way is to use services like SNDeeper that analyze serial numbers, but beware: some sites may store your data.
What if the serial number is not recognized?
6. Table of decoding Xiaomi model codes
Sometimes instead of the full name, you only see a code (e.g., JYU4297CN or XMA1901) that is Xiaomi's internal designation, which can be deciphered using the table below. Note: the same codes may refer to different models depending on the region of sale (China, global version).
| Model code | Full name | Year of release | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| JYU4297CN | RedmiBook 14 II | 2020 | 14", 10th generation Intel Core i5/i7 |
| XMA1901 | Mi Notebook Pro 15.6" 2019 | 2019 | 15.6. " NVIDIA MX250, metal housing |
| JYU4301CN | RedmiBook 16 (Ryzen Edition) | 2021 | 16.1", AMD Ryzen 4000, unlit keyboard |
| XMA2006 | Mi Notebook Pro X 15 | 2021 | 15.6", OLED-11th generation of Intel screen |
| JYU4501CN | RedmiBook Pro 14/15 2022 | 2022 | 14"/15.6", 12th generation Intel, thin bezels |
If your code isn't in the spreadsheet, try finding it in NotebookCheck or forums (like 4PDA).
Important: Model codes for the Chinese market (ends in CN) may not match global versions, for example, RedmiBook 14 II (JYU4297CN) in China and RedmiBook 14 (JYU4297GL) for the rest of the world are different devices with different firmware.
7. Visual differences of popular Xiaomi models
If you can't find a model technically, try identifying it by its external features. Xiaomi has a few key lines that are easy to distinguish:
- π₯οΈ Mi Notebook Air: Thin metal case (12.5" or 13.3"). No numerical unit on the keyboard. Released in 2016-2018.
- π» RedmiBook 14/15/16: Plastic case with metal cover, Redmi logo on the lid (not Mi). AMD Ryzen.
- πΊ Mi Notebook Pro/Pro X: All-metal case, keyboard highlighting (most models) High-resolution screen (3K or OLED).
Notice the connectors:
- π Presence HDMI and USB-C with Thunderbolt support (in Intel models).
- π The size of the charging connector: the old models β round, the new β USB-C.
- π§ Availability of a separate audio connector (some models do not have it).
If you have defined a lineup but do not know the exact model, compare the characteristics of your laptop (screen size, processor, RAM volume) with the official specifications on the Xiaomi website.

On Xiaomi's 2020 and newer laptops, the model is often indicated on the screen hinge (in small print).
