Xiaomi Redmi 4X is one of the most popular budget smartphones of 2017, but even after 3-4 years of operation, the battery begins to βcrashβ: the phone discharges in a few hours, turns off at 30-40% charge or refuses to turn on. Replacing the battery in the service center will cost 1,500-3000 rubles, but with the tools and patience you can cope yourself in 30-60 minutes. In this article β a step-by-step guide with video, analyzing typical mistakes of beginners and tips on how to choose a quality battery so as not to run into a fake.
We're not going to tell you that replacing the battery is "easy." The Redmi 4X is not a removable back cover (unlike the Redmi 3S), so you have to disassemble the body at the risk of damaging the plumes or the adhesive base, but if you've ever repaired a machine or even held a screwdriver in your hands, you can do it. The main thing is to take your time and follow the instructions.
At the end of the article, you'll find the battery FAQ, the original and analog battery comparison table, and the answers to questions about what to do if the phone doesn't turn on or discharges quickly after the replacement. If you prefer the visual format, below we've inserted a video manual from an experienced wizard with comments on each step.
Video instructions: how to change the battery on Xiaomi Redmi 4X
Before you start disassembling, watch this video.
- π§ 0:45 β how to properly slap the back cover so as not to break the latches;
- π 3:12 - location of the battery plume and the order of its disconnection;
- β οΈ 5:30 β the moment with the unplugged old battery (here most often make mistakes!);
- π± 7:45 β Assembly of the body and check of performance.
Attention! In the video, the wizard uses a mediator to lid the lid, but we recommend using a plastic blade (it is less traumatic to plumes), and the video does not show the process of cleaning contacts - read about this in our section below.
What tools will be needed to replace
Without the right tools, you risk damaging the body, plumes, or battery itself.
- π§ Set of screwdrivers (mandatory with a cross tip) PH00 flat 1.5 mm);
- πͺ Plastic blades / mediators (2-3 pieces, 0.2-0.4 mm thick);
- π₯ Dryer or thermo-air station (to soften the glue under the battery);
- 𧴠Isopropyl alcohol 90%+ (Cleaning contacts and removing glue residues);
- 𧲠Suction (helps to gently remove the back cover);
- π New battery (more on this in the next section).
Additional (optional, but useful):
- π Tweezers (for working with small details);
- π¦ Loop or table lamp (to avoid missing small latches);
- π§Ή Soft brush (to remove dust from the body).
If you don't have a hair dryer, you can get by with hot water in the bag (attach it to the back cover for 2-3 minutes), but it's less reliable. Also don't use metal blades - they scratch the body and can close contacts!

Before disassembling, take a picture of the location of all the plumes and screws on the phone, which will help avoid confusion when building, especially if you are a beginner.
How to choose a battery for Xiaomi Redmi 4X: original vs analogues
The original Redmi 4X battery is BM47-marked and has a capacity of 4100 mAh. However, the market is full of fakes that pretend to be the original, but last for six months.
| Criteria | Original battery | Quality analogue | Fake (low quality) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marking | BM47, serial number, production date | Marking is present but may differ (e.g. BL-47) | Blurred or missing inscriptions, typos |
| Packaging | Xiaomi's branded box with a hologram | Simple box, but with protection from moisture | Plastic bag or box without identification marks |
| Weight. | ~45-50 grams | ~40-48 grams | Too light (<35 g) or heavy (>55 g) |
| Contacts | Golden, no scratches. | Clean, but can be slightly matte | Darkened, with traces of oxidation |
| Price (2026) | 1 800β2 500 β½ | 1 200β1 800 β½ | <800 β½ |
We recommend buying batteries in trusted stores:
- π AliExpress (sellers with a rating) >98% and reviews >1000);
- π Beru/Yandex Market (official partners of Xiaomi);
- π Local service centers (if you give a guarantee) >6 months).
Importantly, even the original battery after replacement can show a capacity of 3800-4000 mAh instead of 4100. This is normal - over time, the charge controller will "get used" to the new battery and show real values.

Now, to the most critical stage, turn off your phone and start:
- Removing the back cover Heat the back of the phone with a hair dryer (temperature) ~60β70Β°C) for 2-3 minutes to soften the glue. Then gently apply the lid with a plastic blade, starting at the lower left corner (there are fewer plumes.
- Under the lid, you'll see a black connector with an orange tongue -- this is the battery connector. Carefully put it in the shoulder blade and disconnect it. Don't pull the wires!
- Removing the old battery, the battery is glued to the body to remove it: π₯ Warm up the battery with a hairdryer (not higher than 80)Β°C!). πͺ Tap it with a plastic spatula on the side and slowly pull up. 𧴠If the glue does not respond, drop the isopropyl alcohol under the battery and wait 1-2 minutes.
Attention! Don't use metal objects - risk short circuit!
Installation of a new battery
Before installation, clean the contacts on your phone and new battery with isopropyl alcohol. glue the battery to double-sided tape (includes) and connect the plume.
Phone assembly
Make sure all the plumes are plugged in, then press the back cover until you click. Turn on the phone and check the charge.
Battery plume is tightly connected|Back cover snapped without gaps|No foreign objects inside the body|Contacts clean (no oxidation)-->
If the phone is not switched on after replacement:
- π Check if the battery is tightly stacked.
- π Try charging your phone for 10-15 minutes (new battery may be discharged).
- β‘ If the charge indicator does not burn, the power controller may be damaged (repair in the service is needed).
Common Mistakes When Replacing a Battery and How to Avoid Them
Even the most experienced craftsmen make mistakes sometimes, and here are the most common ones:
β οΈ Attention, if it swells or smokes when you take it off, stop working immediately, take the phone outside, and don't breathe vapors!
- π₯ Battery overheating with a hairdryer β Use a temperature not higher than 80Β°C and warm in short intervals.
- πͺ Damage to the screen plume β Do not pull the cover near the top of the phone (there is a plume display).
- π Using superglue β Use only two-way Scotch to lock the battery (for example, 3M).
- π Uncalibrated battery β after replacement, discharge the phone to 0% and charge up to 100% without interruptions (repeat 2-3 times).
If the phone is quickly discharged after replacement, check:
- π The condition of the plume - it may have moved away or damaged;
- π± Background apps β some programs (like Facebook or TikTok) put a battery down a lot;
- β‘ Quality of charger β use the original power supply 5V/2A.
π‘
If a new battery runs out in 4-5 hours, you're probably running into a fake battery, return it to the seller and buy it from another supplier.
How to prolong the life of a new battery
Even the original battery will last longer if you follow the simple rules:
- π Avoid full discharge β charge your phone at 10-20% charge.
- β‘ Donβt use βfast chargingβ β Redmi 4X Does not support Quick Charge, and cheap power supplies spoil the battery.
- π‘οΈ Donβt overheat your phone β donβt leave it in the sun or near heat sources.
- π΅ Turn off mobile data/Wi-Fi night - background activity reduces the service life.
It is also useful to calibrate the battery after replacement:
- Reduce the phone to 0% (until it turns off).
- Charge up to 100% without interruptions (preferably the original RAM).
- Repeat the cycle 2-3 times.
This will help the power controller to more accurately determine the level of charge.
What to do if the phone does not work after battery replacement
If the Redmi 4X doesnβt turn on or behaves strangely after a battery change, the reasons may be:
| Symptoms. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The phone does not respond to the power button | Battery plume is not connected or damaged | Disassemble the phone and check the connector |
| Red lights on, but the phone doesnβt charge | Power controller damaged. | Contact the service (repair service is required) |
| The phone turns on, but immediately turns off. | New battery is discharged or faulty | Charge 15-20 minutes, then try to turn on |
| Battery discharged in 1-2 hours | Fake battery or high background consumption | Check the capacity in Settings β Battery and disable unnecessary applications |
If you are sure that everything is connected correctly, but the phone does not turn on, try:
- Connect it to charging for 30 minutes (even if the indicator is not on).
- Press the power button + increase the volume by 10-15 seconds (emergency reboot).
- If nothing works, maybe the plume or the motherboard is damaged, and then you should contact the service.
