Why cleaning RedmiBook 7 is an integral part of care
Xiaomi RedmiBook 7 laptops are deservedly popular for their balanced performance and affordable price. However, even the most reliable iron requires regular maintenance. Dust that gets into the cooling system is the main enemy of any laptop: it worsens the heat sink, makes fans work at their limits and shortens the life of components. If your RedmiBook 7 began to warm up stronger than usual, loudly noise or suddenly brake under load, itβs time to clean.
Unlike desktop PCs, laptops are more difficult to maintain because of their compact design, but that doesn't mean that the procedure is not available to the average user. In this article, we'll discuss three levels of cleaning: surface (keyboard, case), deep (disassembly and dust removal) and professional (replacement of thermopaste), you'll learn what tools you need, how to avoid errors and when to contact the service center.
Before you start, note: RedmiBook 7 was released in several versions (for example, with Intel Core i5-11300H or AMD Ryzen 5 5500U). The design of the case and cooling system they have similar, but there may be nuances in the location of the screws or radiators. All manipulations you perform at your own risk - the manufacturer's warranty after disassembly is canceled.
Preparation: security tools and measures
Cleaning a laptop is not just about removing dust, it's also about working with fragile electronics, and using the wrong tools (like metal screwdrivers or vacuum cleaners at maximum power) can damage the board or the screen.
- β Plastic blades (mediators) for neat opening of the body - metal scratches the plastic.
- β Cross screwdriver (usually) PH0 or PH1) screw.
- β Compressed air cylinder (or power adjustable compressor) for blowing out dust.
- β Soft brush (for example, for drawing) for hard-to-reach places.
- β Thermopaste (e.g. Arctic) MX-4 noctua NT-H1) substitute.
- β Antistatic bracelet (or grounded surface) to protect against static electricity.
- β Alcohol wipes (70% isopropyl alcohol) for cleaning contacts.
The warnings that 90% of users ignore (and in vain):
β οΈ Warning: Do not use a home vacuum cleaner, which creates static electricity and can snatch small parts (such as heat pads) from the board. Keep the compressed air cylinder vertically to avoid ejection of liquid.
β οΈ Note: If your RedmiBook 7 is warranty, disassembly will deprive you of the right to free repair. Check the warranty status in the Mi Service application by serial number (on the box or under the battery).
Also, prepare your workspace: a table with good lighting, screw containers (so you don't lose them), and take pictures of each stage of the dismantling, which will help you put your laptop back together without any "extra" parts.
Step 1: Surface cleaning (keyboard, body, screen)
Start with an external cleaning, which you can do every 1-2 months without risking warranty, and the keyboard and touchpad collect not only dust, but also fat, sweat and crumbs.
- Turn off the laptop and disconnect the charger.
- Turn RedmiBook 7 at an angle of 75Β° and gently tap on the back cover β this will help shake out large debris particles.
- Use a compressed air cylinder, holding it at a distance of 5-7 cm from the keys. Direct the jet parallel to the surface, not perpendicularly, so as not to drive the dust deeper.
- For sticky spots, moisten the cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol (not in water!) and wipe the keys. Don't pour the liquid directly onto the keyboard!
Use a microfiber wipe (like a glasses wipe) and a special spray for monitors. Never use household chemicals, because they corrode the anti-reflective coating. You can wipe the body with a wet wipe with a drop of glass washing, but avoid ports and vents.
If there is hair or crumbs stuck between the keys, use a plastic shoulder blade or credit card to tamper with them gently.Do not use force - the key mechanism (scissor-switch in RedmiBook 7) is fragile.
π‘
To clean the touchpad, use a napkin dipped in distilled water. The movements should be circular, without pressing - the touch coating is easy to scratch.
Step 2: Deep cleaning (disassembly and removal of dust)
If the laptop is overheating or the fans are making noise like a turbine, it's time to look inside. Complete dismantling of the RedmiBook 7 takes 30-60 minutes and requires patience.
- Turn off the power, remove the battery (if possible) and remove the back cover. In RedmiBook 7, it is mounted on 10 to 12 screws under rubber legs. Carefully tuck the lid with a plastic blade, starting at the corner near the loop.
- Take a picture of the screws' location - they may vary in length! RedmiBook 7 typically uses T5 or PH0 screws.
- When you take the lid off, you'll see the cooling system: the radiator, the heat pipes and the fan. Don't touch the board with your bare hands, use an antistatic bracelet.
- With compressed air, blow dust out of the radiator and fan. Hold the fan blades with your finger so that they do not rotate from the air flow (this can damage the bearing).
- With a brush, remove dust from the board and other components. Don't press hard, you can damage the capacitors.
And you pay special attention to the ventilation grilles, which are sideways and bottom in RedmiBook 7, and if the dust is compressed into a dense layer, use a cotton swab soaked in alcohol. Don't try to scrape it with a nail or a screwdriver!
After cleaning, check the status of the thermopaste on the processor and graphics chip (if any). If it is dry or leaky, it should be replaced (more about this in the next section).

Step 3: Replace the Thermopaste (for advanced users)
The thermopast in RedmiBook 7 loses its properties after 2-3 years of active use. If the laptop warms to 90-100 Β° C under load (check in HWMonitor or AIDA64), it is time to update it.
- Carefully unplug the radiator from the processor. If the heat paste is dry, pull the radiator upwards with uniform force, swaying from side to side. Don't pull!
- Remove the old paste with a napkin soaked in isopropyl alcohol. Peel to shine - the remnants of the old paste will impair thermal conductivity.
- Apply a new thermopaste thinly (about the size of a pea) on the processor and graphics chip (if any). RedmiBook 7 often uses Intel Tiger Lake-H or AMD Renoir β for these, 0.1-0.15 ml of pasta.
- Press the radiator back and fix the screws cross-cross to avoid skewing.
Mistakes in replacing thermopaste, which allow beginners:
- β Too much paste β excess will flow out onto the board and may cause short circuit.
- β Uneven distribution β leads to βair pocketsβ and impairs heat sink.
- β Use of cheap paste (e.g. CBT)-8) β It quickly dries and loses its properties.
After replacing the thermal paste, turn on your laptop and check the temperatures in a stress test (such as in Prime95 or FurMark). Normal values for RedmiBook 7 under load: 70β85Β°C for the CPU and 65β80Β°C for the GPU.

Comparison of cleaning methods: what is more effective
Not all cleaning methods are equally useful. In the table below, you can compare the methods by efficiency, risks and frequency of use for the Xiaomi RedmiBook 7:
| Method | Efficiency | Risks. | Frequency | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Surface cleaning (air + wipes) | Low (removes 30-40% of dust) | Minimum | 1 time in 1-2 months | 100β300 β½ |
| Deep cleaning (disassembly + blowing dust) | High (removes 80β90% of dust) | Medium (risk of damage to plumes) | 1 time at 6-12 months | 500β1000 β½ (tool) |
| Replacement of thermopaste | Very high (reduces temperature by 10-20 Β° C) | High (CPU Damage Risk) | 1 time 2-3 years | 1000β1500 β½ (pasta + tool) |
| Ultrasonic cleaning (in the service) | Maximum (removes dust from hard-to-reach places) | Low (performed by professionals) | 1 time 1-2 years | 2000β3500 β½ |
For most users, the combined approach is optimal: surface cleaning every 2 months + deep disassembly once a year. Replacing thermopaste is better to trust the service if you are not confident in your skills.

Regular cleaning extends the life of a laptop by 2-3 years, reducing the risk of overheating and failure of components.
When cleaning doesnβt work: Signs of serious problems
If RedmiBook 7 continues to warm, make noise, or turn off after all the manipulations, the problem may be deeper:
- π₯ Fan failure: If the blades are not rotating or are making grinding, a replacement is needed. RedmiBook 7 uses a Sunon MagLev fan (the article depends on modification).
- π₯ Thermotube defect: if one of the tubes has moved away from the radiator, the heat sink is broken.
- π₯ Battery wear: If the laptop turns off when the charge is disconnected, even when the battery is 50%, its capacity is critically low. Replace the battery (original article for RedmiBook 7 β MDY11CM).
- π₯ Problems with BIOS: After cleaning, the laptop may not turn on due to resetting. BIOS, disconnect the battery for 30 seconds (in RedmiBook 7 it is under black isolation next to RAM).
If you suspect a board malfunction (blackened elements, the smell of burning, the laptop does not respond to the power button), do not turn it on - this can aggravate the damage. In such cases, contact an authorized Xiaomi service or workshop with good reviews.
For diagnosis, use the following programs:
- HWMonitor β Monitoring temperatures and stresses.
- CrystalDiskInfo β check the status of SSD/HDD.
- MemTest86 is a test of RAM.
