When the physical lock button on Xiaomi’s smartphone stops responding or crashes, it often takes the user by surprise. Unlike many other brands, MIUI and HyperOS have a specific power management architecture that doesn’t always allow you to simply unlock the screen and press “Switch off” in the curtain. If the display is working but the mechanical switch is out, the device can continue to run until it’s completely discharged, which is harmful to a lithium polymer battery.
In this article, we will discuss all the known ways to program-reboot and completely shut down Redmi or Poco that do not require the use of a side key. Some methods require prior preparation, so it is useful to know them in advance while the button is still functioning. However, even if the problem occurs right now, there are solutions that allow you to safely terminate the system.
Ignoring a malfunction can cause the phone to shut down at the most inopportune moment when the battery is zero. Deep discharge is dangerous for the power controller. So at the first sign of a sticky or a failure button immediately switch to software control to save data and avoid startup problems in the future.
Use of the “Completion of Work” function in the menu

It's important to understand that software shutting down a menu is a routine shutdown procedure, and it's safer than just waiting for the battery to run out. If the menu doesn't respond to touch, or if the button in the interface is blocked by requiring you to press the physical key, move on to more sophisticated methods.
Setting up the on and off schedule
One of the most reliable ways that works on all Xiaomi models, including the old Redmi Note and the new Xiaomi 13 or 14 flagships, is to use a built-in scheduler.This feature is originally designed to save charge at night, but in the event of a button breakage becomes a rescue.

Using ADB requires caution. Incorrect commands can lead to a reboot to Recovery or Fastboot, which will be difficult to get out of without a power button. Always check the syntax of commands before entering.
Helper applications and macros
If standard MIUIs seem limited, Google Play offers a variety of power management apps, and a popular solution is to use macros or apps like Power Button to Volume Button that reassign volume button functions.
The essence of these utilities is to intercept the signal from the volume buttons, you set the application so that a long press (for example, 3 seconds) on the Volume Up button causes the switch-off menu or immediately turns the screen off, which turns the volume keys into a full-fledged power controller.

For Poco and Redmi with a side-fingerprint scanner (which is combined with a power button), the breakdown is especially critical, as biometrics are lost.
