Why the touchscreen on Xiaomi starts to βglutchβ and when you need calibration
Touch screen is one of the most vulnerable elements of the smartphone. Even on flagship models Xiaomi (for example, Xiaomi 14 Ultra or Redmi Note 13 Pro+), users periodically face problems: the screen does not respond to touch, registers βghostβ presses or works with a delay. 80% of cases are not to blame for hardware failures, but a failure of the software calibration of the sensor.
Touchscreen calibration is a process of adjusting the sensitivity of the screen, in which the system βremembersβ the correct coordinates of the touches. On Xiaomi, it can get lost after falls, MIUI updates, replacement of the protective glass, or even due to prolonged use in high humidity conditions. For example, after installing MIUI 15 on the Xiaomi 13T Pro, some users complained about the displacement of the touch points at the bottom of the screen β a typical symptom of requiring calibration adjustments.
But how do you know that the problem is calibration, not physical breakdown?
- π± The screen responds to touch with a delay (0.3-1 seconds)
- π― Pressing points are shifted (for example, you poke into an icon, and the neighboring one opens)
- π» Appears "ghost" touches (the phone opens the menu or scrolls the pages)
- π The problem occurs periodically, not constantly.
If any of these symptoms are familiar, your Xiaomi needs calibration.
Calibration Preparation: What to Do Before Starting
Before you start setting up, make sure that the problem is not due to external factors. For example, a thick protective glass (especially with backlight) can distort the sensor signals. Take it off and check the screen reaction - if the problem disappears, calibration is not necessary.
Also follow these steps:
- Reboot your smartphone (sometimes temporary MIUI failures disappear after a reboot).
- Check if left-handed mode is included in Settings β Additional β Special features β it can shift touch zones.
- Update MIUI to the latest version (in Settings β About Phone β System Update).
If you're still acting weird after this manipulation, you can start calibrating.
β οΈ Note: Some methods (e.g., through an engineering menu) may result in resetting network settings or other side effects.

Method 1: Automatic calibration via MIUI settings
The safest method is to use the built-in MIUI tools. It is suitable for most models, including the Redmi Note 12, POCO X5 and Xiaomi 13 Lite.
- Open the Settings. β The phone.
- Tap 5-7 times on the MIUI version until the notification βYou became a developerβ appears.
- Return to the main settings menu and select Additional β For developers.
- Find the Sensor Calibration option (or Touchscreen calibration in English firmware) and tap it.
- Follow the instructions on the screen: usually you need to alternately click on the points that appear.
If the Sensor Calibration item is not in the developer menu, then your Xiaomi model does not support this feature at the software level, in which case move on to the next method.
π‘
On some firmware (e.g. Xiaomi.EU), the calibration may be called the Touchscreen test. If the screen gets worse after the procedure, reset the settings via Settings β System β Resetting β Reset all settings (without deleting data).
Method 2: Manual calibration through the engineering menu (for advanced)
This method requires caution, but allows you to fine-tune the sensor, suitable for devices based on Qualcomm Snapdragon (for example, POCO F5, Redmi K60).
- Open the Phone app and type in the combination: ##36446337## (for Mediatek) or ##4636## (for Snapdragon).
- In the menu that appears, select Hardware Testing β Touch Screen.
- Press Calibration and follow the instructions (usually click on the crosses in the corners of the screen).
- Once completed, restart the phone.
On some models (e.g. Xiaomi 12T), the engineering menu may look different. If nothing happens after you enter the code, try an alternative combination: ##6484## (sensor test) or ##2664## (screen diagnostics).
β οΈ Warning: Do not change other options in the engineering menu unless you are sure of their purpose! For example, accidentally changing the Modem settings can lead to network loss.

Method 3: Calibration through ADB (for power users)
If standard methods didnβt work, you can use Android Debug Bridge (ADB), a universal approach that requires a PC and basic command line knowledge, and is suitable for all Xiaomi models, including the Black Shark and Mix Fold.
Instructions:
- Download and install ADB Tools on your computer.
- Turn on USB debugging on your phone (Settings β About Phone β MIUI Version β 7 taps β For developers β USB debugging).
- Connect your phone to your PC and type in the command line: adb shell su echo 1 > /sys/touchscreen/calibration (on some devices, the path may differ, for example /sys/class/touchscreen/calibration).
- Reboot the phone.
If the screen stopped responding after the command, don't panic, which means that the path to the calibration file is incorrect. You can restore work by resetting the settings via fastboot:
fastboot erase userdataIt'll delete all the data from the phone!
π‘
ADB-Calibration is the most powerful, but also the most risky method, and only use it if other methods have failed and you are prepared for possible data loss.
Table: Compatibility of calibration methods with Xiaomi models
| Xiaomi model | Automatic calibration (MIUI) | Engineering menu | ADB | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 12/13 | β Yes. | β Yes, #36446337##) | β Yes. | On global firmware, the engineering menu can be hidden |
| POCO X5/F5 | β Yes. | β Yes, #4636##) | β Yes. | Requires to disable MIUI optimization for ADB |
| Xiaomi 13/14 | β No. | β Yes, for Snapdragon only) | β Yes. | On Mediatek-versions, the engineering menu is blocked |
| Black Shark 5/6 | β No. | β Yes, #6484##) | β Yes. | Requires unlocking of the loader |
| Mix Fold 2/3 | β No. | β No. | β Yes. | Calibration only through ADB with root rights |
What to do if calibration did not help: diagnosis of hardware problems
If the touchscreen continues to glittle after all the manipulations, the problem may be hardware.
- π§ Sensor plume damage (for example, after falling or disassembling the phone) Symptoms: the screen responds only to a part of the touches or works in "bandsΒ».
- π§ Moisture is brought under the screen, and even after drying, oxidized contacts can distort signals.
- π Touchscreen controller malfunction (motherboard chip) is more common on older models (Redmi). 5/6).
- β‘ Controller firmware problems (for example, after a failed update).
For diagnosis, use the screen test:
- Enter the code in the phone app: ##6484##.
- Select Touch Test.
- Swipe your finger around the screen β if there are unpainted areas, itβs a sign of physical breakdown.
If the test shows a hardware malfunction, self-repair is possible only if you have experience with electronics.
- Replacement of touch glass (from 1,500) β½ service).
- Sleeve interpling (from 2,000) β½).
- Replacement of the motherboard (the most expensive option).
β οΈ Attention: On models with AMOLED-Replacing the touchscreen with screens (such as the Xiaomi 13 Pro) often requires flashing the controller, otherwise the screen will not work.
