Why is Xiaomi’s laptop serial number so important?
Serial number (or S/N) Xiaomi laptop is a unique identifier that will come in handy in a variety of situations, without it you can not arrange warranty repairs, activate extended support or even sell the device in the secondary market. BIOS and drivers require confirmation of the authenticity of the device through the serial.
Xiaomi laptops (such as the Mi Notebook Pro, RedmiBook or Xiaomi Book S) are often hidden in obscure places. Unlike many brands where it is duplicated on the box and in documents, you may need to dig deeper here, from flipping the device to running the command line. In this article, we have collected all possible ways, including those that are not written in the official instructions.
If you lose a box or documents, don't worry: you can find the serial number even on a broken laptop.
Method 1: Serial number on the laptop case
The most obvious method is to look at the device's body, and Xiaomi's serial number is usually on the bottom cover, but it depends on the model.
- 📦 Adhesive sticker - on most models (Mi Notebook Air, RedmiBook) 14/15/16) The serial is on a white or silver sticker next to the Xiaomi logo and barcodes. S/N: XXXXXXXXXXXX.
- 🔍 Engraving on metal – on premium models (for example, Xiaomi Book Pro) 14/15 2022) number can be engraved with a laser on an aluminum cover without a sticker.
- 🔋 Under the battery – on older or repaired devices, the sticker is sometimes glued under the battery (disassembly is required).
If the sticker is erased or painted over, try to light it up with a flashlight at an angle - often the numbers become visible. On some models (RedmiBook 13), the serial number is duplicated on the box in the format SN: XXXXXXXXXXXX or Serial No.: XXXXXXXXXXXX.
⚠️ Note: On used laptops, the sticker with the serial number can be replaced with a fake one. Check its authenticity through the official Xiaomi website (section "Guaranty Check").
Method 2: Serial number in BIOS/UEFI
If the sticker is missing or unreadable, the serial number can be found in the BIOS. This method works even on faulty laptops if they are turned on:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press the F2 key (or Del for some models) and turn on the power. Hold the button until the BIOS screen appears.
- Go to the Main or System Information section.
- Find the Serial Number, Product Serial, or S/N strings.
On Xiaomi laptops with modern UEFI-by an interface (e.g., Mi Notebook Pro X 15), the serial number can be displayed immediately on the home screen. BIOS no information, try updating the firmware version – sometimes it solves the problem with displaying data.
What to do if the BIOS asks for a password?
Method 3: Serial number via Windows (for working devices)
If the laptop is powered on and running Windows, you can find the serial number without disassembly. Here are 3 reliable methods:
Method 1: Command Prompt
Open the Command Prompt (Win + R → enter cmd → Enter) and do:
wmic bios get serialnumberThe serial number will appear in the line below, and if you see To be filled by O.E.M. instead of numbers, it means that the data is not entered into the BIOS (often on gray devices).
Method 2: System information
Press Win + R, enter msinfo32 and press Enter. In the window that opens, find the Serial Number in the System Information section.
Method 3: PowerShell
Run PowerShell on behalf of the administrator and do:
Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_BIOS | Select-Object SerialNumberIf all three methods show an empty value, it could mean that the serial number was erased when the BIOS flashed over or the laptop was assembled from spare parts.

Method 4: Serial number in documents and packaging
If the laptop is officially purchased, the serial number is duplicated in several places:
- 📄 A warranty card -- usually at the top of the document under the barcode. S/N or Serial Number.
- 📦 Box - on the side or bottom sticker, next to the model article (Model No.). On new models (Xiaomi Book Pro 14 2023), the serial can be hidden under a protective layer - gently tuck it with a nail.
- 🛒 Check or electronic document – in online orders (for example, on AliExpress or Mi Store) the serial number is indicated in the details of the order.
Important: On some models (e.g. RedmiBook 14 II), the serial number on the box and in the documents may be different from what is printed on the case, in which case the number on the device sticker takes priority.
If you bought a laptop with your hands, ask the seller for a photo of the box or warranty card – this will help avoid problems with the warranty in the future.
Method 5: Serial number through the official Xiaomi website
If you don’t have physical access to your laptop (for example, it’s under repair) but you have a Mi Account tied to your device, try checking the serial number through the official service:
- Go to the Mi Verify website.
- Sign in to your Xiaomi account.
- In the My Devices section, find your laptop.
- Click View Details – the serial number will be listed next to the model.
This method only works for devices that are tied to an account before it breaks, and if the laptop is not activated or reset to factory settings, the data may be missing.
⚠️ Note: Xiaomi’s website sometimes displays a shortened version of the serial number rather than the full serial number (for example, the latest ones). 6 For warranty repairs, this is not enough - a full S/N sticker-on.

If your model is not in the table, try the generic methods (BIOS or command line). For rare or limited editions (for example, Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro Enhanced Edition), the serial number can be in a non-standard place - inspect the case from all sides.

If the sticker with the serial number is damaged, take a picture of it and enlarge the image on the computer - sometimes the numbers can be disassembled.
What to do if the serial number is not found?
If none of these methods worked, maybe the serial number was deleted or the laptop was made from parts.
- 🔧 Contact the service center – specialists can restore the number through diagnostic equipment (for example, a programmer). CH341A).
- 📧 Write in support of Xiaomi — attach photos of the sticker (if it is partially readable) and the purchase documents. Sometimes you can restore data to the database.
- 🛠️ Check the motherboard – on some models, the serial number is duplicated on the board next to the battery connector (disassembly is required).
If a laptop is bought with no paperwork, the only way to legalize it is to contact the previous owner for a copy of the warranty card or check.Without a serial number, the warranty is not valid, and some BIOS updates may not be available.
