Xiaomi: what kind of application is it and why it is needed

Xiaomi and Redmi smartphone owners often notice a component called “Saverser” or “Wallpaper Carousel” in their installed list. The appearance of this application raises many questions, since it can automatically change the wallpaper on the lock screen, sometimes broadcasting advertising content.

Many users confuse this feature with a standard gallery or system application for setting static backgrounds, but the mechanism is fundamentally different: it is service software integrated into the MIUI shell that loads content from the cloud.

In this article, we will discuss in detail what this application is responsible for, whether it should be removed and how to properly configure display parameters to avoid unnecessary traffic or intrusive advertising.

Main purpose of the system component

The Saverser app (called Wallpaper Carousel or Wallpaper in some versions of the firmware) was created by Xiaomi to dynamically update the visual design of the lock screen. Unlike a static picture that just hangs in the background, the service turns the screen of the phone off into an information tape.

The main goal of the program is to provide the user with high-quality visual content without the need for manual search, and the algorithms automatically select high-resolution images that change with each screen turn on or at specified time intervals.

The system process runs in the background and consumes minimal resources unless you configure a daily update over the mobile network, and it's important to understand that this is not a virus, but a regular part of the MIUI ecosystem.

The functionality of the program is not limited to just changing pictures, depending on the region and version of the firmware, the service can display:

Comparison of functionality in different versions of MIUI

The performance of the Savage application can vary significantly depending on the regional version of the firmware (Global, China, EEA, Russia), and the Chinese versions have the richest functionality, including integration with local services.

Global versions (Global) focus on international content, but often more advertising integrations are present.The European versions (EEA) may have restrictions due to GDPR laws, which affects data collection and content targeting.
