The message βThereβs been an error in the Google appβ on Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO smartphones is one of the most common issues that can block access to the Play Market, disrupt contact synchronization, or cause constant notifications of failures. The error appears suddenly: either after updating the firmware, or when installing a new app, or just out of the blue. 80% of the time it is caused by conflicts between Google services and the MIUI shell, but there are other triggers, from corrupted cache files to regional restrictions.
In this article, we will discuss 7 proven methods of fixing the bug, from the simplest (reboot and clear cache) to radical (reset Google account settings). All instructions are adapted for MIUI 14/15 and tested on Xiaomi 13/14, Redmi Note 12 and POCO F5 models. Importantly, if the error appeared after manually updating the firmware through fastboot, first check the integrity of the files - perhaps the problem in the "broken" build.
Why there is a bug in the Google app on Xiaomi
The root of the problem is MIUI, where Google services are integrated on top of its own shell, and the main reasons for the failure are:
- π Version Conflict: Update to Google Play Services or Google Play Market via third-party sources (APK-files) without compatibility with current firmware.
- ποΈ Damaged cache: Temporary data files from Google services or the shell itself MIUI error.
- π Regional restrictions: Some firmware (especially Chinese) have blocked Google services at the system level.
- π§ Incorrect permissions: After resetting settings or manually interfering with Settings β Google Apps Are Losing Critical Rights.
- π± Sync errors: Conflict between multiple Google accounts or Google Account Manager failures.
On devices with MIUI Global, the bug is more likely to be due to updates, and on MIUI China, it is due to the lack of pre-installed Google services. For example, on Xiaomi 13 Pro for the Chinese market, users face a problem immediately after their first attempt to log into a Google account.
β οΈ Note: If the error occurred after installing custom firmware (such as LineageOS or Pixel Experience), first check the build compatibility with GApps (Google Services Package.
Method 1: Reboot and check connection
Start with basic actions β they help in 30% of cases:
- Reboot your smartphone with a long press on the power button, which will clear the RAM and restart the background processes.
- Check your Internet connection: Open your browser and try to load a website (e.g., google.com). If you use mobile internet, turn on the browser. 4G/5G In Settings β SIM-Maps and mobile networks. When connected via Wi-Fi, reconnect to the network or reboot the router.

If the error disappeared after the reboot, but later returned, the problem lies deeper (probably in the cache or conflict of services).
Method 2: Clearing Google Cache and Data
A damaged cache is the most common cause of failure.
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner and select Show All Applications (or System Processes).
- Find and select in turn: Google Play Services (Google Play Services) Google Play Store Google Services Framework (if listed)

Once cleaned, reboot your device. If the error is synced, also clear the cache in Settings β Accounts and Sync β Google β [your account] β Delete your account (then add it again).
Backup of important data
Close all Google apps
Connect to a stable Wi-Fi
Record the login/password from the Google account (in case of re-entry)-->
Method 3: Update Google Services Manually
If automatic updates do not work, manually install the current versions of the services:
- Download the latest versions APK-files from official source: Google Play Services (select version for your architecture: arm64, armeabi x86). Google Play Market.

Reset the device.
Important: Donβt download APK from questionable sites β use only APKMirror or the official Google APK. On devices with MIUI China, you may need to unlock the bootloader and firmware of the Global version of MIUI before installing.
| Annex | Minimum version for MIUI 14/15 | Size (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play Services | 23.30.14 (or newer) | ~50-100MB |
| Google Play Market | 34.4.16 (or newer) | ~30-40 MB |
| Google Services Framework | 11.0 (built into firmware) | ~5MB |
| Google Account Manager | 7.0.1 | ~2MB |
Method 4: Resetting your Google account settings
If the error is synced (for example, contacts, calendar or Gmail are not working), reset your account:
- Go to Settings β Accounts and Sync β Google.
- Select your account and click Delete account (donβt worry β the data will be saved on Google servers).
- Reset the device.
- Go back to Settings β Accounts and Sync β Add an account β Google and log in.
- Enable synchronization for the desired services (contacts, calendar, disk, etc.).
If you add an account to the account, check if it conflicts with other accounts, for example, some MIUI firmwares do not allow you to use both personal and working Google accounts with Google Workspace.
π‘
Before deleting your Google account, check whether your Play Market purchases or your in-app data (such as saving in games) are linked to it. If necessary, transfer your important data to another account.
Method 5: Checking Regional Settings and Limitations
On devices with MIUI China or firmware for specific regions (e.g. India, Russia), Google services can be blocked.
- Change the region in the settings MIUI: Go to Settings. β Additionally. β Language and region: Select the country where Google services are officially supported (e.g., USA or Germany); Reboot your device; Check the restrictions on Google Play: Open Play Market β Profile β Settings β General. β Account and device: Make sure your device is certified (if not, install Google Device) ID from APKMirror and get certified).
Some Xiaomi models (e.g. Redmi K50 Gaming) may require a network reset after a region change:
β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Network resetβ οΈ Attention: Change of region to MIUI This may result in loss of access to some local services (e.g. Mi Pay or Mi Cloud for China) before changing, check if you are using regionally-based features.
Method 6: Install GApps on custom firmware
If you are using an informal firmware (such as LineageOS, Pixel Experience or HavocOS), the error may be due to the absence or incomplete installation of GApps.
- Check the current version of GApps: Open Settings β Apps and search for Google Play Services. If there is no app, GApps are not installed.
- Download the appropriate GApps package: Go to Open GApps. Select: Platform: ARM64 (for most modern Xiaomi). Android version: matches your firmware (for example, Android 13 for MIUI 14). Option: pico (minimum) or nano (recommended).
Install through recovery
- Copy the downloaded ZIP-memory-card.
- Reboot to TWRP (or other custom recovery).
- Select Install β Select ZIP β Install GApps.
- After installation, run the Wipe β Dalvik/ART Cache.
If you still have a bug after installing GApps, check the firmware compatibility with the selected package. For example, firmware based on Android 12 does not support GApps for Android 13.
What if after installing GApps, the device gets stuck on the logo?
Method 7: Reset to factory settings (last resort)
If none of these things work, do a hard reset, which will delete all the data from the device, so first you have to:
- π± Make a backup copy through Settings β The phone. β Backup and reset β Local backup.
- π Write down logins / passwords from accounts (Google, Mi Account, social networks).
- π Save photos, videos and documents to your PC or cloud.
For discharge:
- Go to Settings β About Phone β Backup and Reset β Reset settings.
- Choose to erase all data and confirm the action.
- After restarting, configure the device as new, but donβt restore data from the backup β check first if the error has disappeared.
If the error reappears after the data recovery, the problem is in one of the backed files, in which case you have to configure the device from scratch without restoring it.

Factory resets should be the last option, and 90% of the time, the error can be fixed by cleaning the cache or updating Google services.
