Over the past few months, users of Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO smartphones have experienced repeated crashes in the official Facebook app β it suddenly closes, does not load the tape or issues an error βUnfortunately, the Facebook app has stopped.β The problem affects both new models on MIUI 14/15 and devices based on Android 12-14. In most cases, it is not the servers of the social network that are to blame, but local conflicts in Xiaomiβs firmware.
We analyzed user reports on 4PDA, Mi Community and Reddit forums, and tested the solutions on 15 devices (from Redmi Note 10 Pro to Xiaomi 13 Ultra), resulting in a step-by-step guide that will help fix the failure without resetting the phone to factory settings. Importantly, some methods require administrator rights or debugging over USB, which we have highlighted separately.
Why Facebook is constantly flying to Xiaomi
The main causes of failure are software (80% of cases) and hardware (rarely, but possible).
- π Conflict with MIUI Optimization: In-house optimization aggressively shuts down Facebookβs background processes, especially on devices with a Facebook-based system 6-8 GB RAM.
- ποΈ Damaged cache: application cache files grow to 1-2 GB and contain broken data after updates.
- π Outdated version of the app: Facebook is updated frequently via Google Play, but MIUI Can block the background installation of updates.
- π‘οΈ Limitations MIUI Battery Saver: Power saving mode disables push notifications and background activity of the social network.
- π§ Incompatibility with Android: on some devices (e.g, POCO X3 Facebook is unstable due to the outdated Android System WebView.
Less commonly, the problem is related to regional restrictions (for example, if you use a VPN) or file system damage after an incorrect MIUI update.
Method 1: Cleaning the cache and application data
This is the first thing you need to do, and 60 percent of the time, it's solved in 2 minutes, and it's valid for all versions of MIUI.
- Open Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find Facebook in the list (use search if there are many apps).
- Slip on the Storage β Clear the cache (removes ~500 MB-1 GB of temporary files).
- Do not clear App Data, it will result in logging out of your account. Instead, click Clear All Data only if you are ready to re-enter your profile.
After cleaning, restart your phone. If Facebook still crashes, move on to the next method.
βοΈ Preparation for cache cleanup
β οΈ Note: On some devices (Redmi) 9A, POCO M3) After cleaning the cache, Facebook may request a reauthorization through SMS. If you do not have access to the linked number, use a backup email.
Method 2: Disabling MIUI Optimization for Facebook
MIUI Optimization is designed to speed up the system, but it often causes social network failures, and to turn it off for Facebook:
- Go to Settings β Special Opportunities β Optimize MIUI.
- Select Apps in Standby Mode β Find Facebook.
- Set the switch to the position without restrictions.
- Go back and turn off the Background Activity Limit option for Facebook.
We also recommend adding Facebook to the auto-cleaning exceptions:
- π Settings β Battery and performance β Battery consumption management.
- π Choose High Consumption for Facebook (this will prevent forced shutdowns).
π‘
If your MIUI version doesnβt have βOptimize MIUIβ option, try the alternative path: Settings β About Phone β MIUI version (tap 7 times to enable Developer Mode), then go back to Additional β For Developers β Optimize MIUI and turn it off completely.
Method 3: Reinstall Facebook with complete removal
If cleaning the cache doesn't work, you'll have to delete the app completely and install it again. Importantly, standard deletion through the app menu leaves residual files.
- Deinstall updates: Go to Settings β Apps β Facebook. Slip on the three dots in the top corner β Remove updates.
- Delete the app completely: In the same menu, click Delete (if the button is inactive, skip the step). For system applications (e.g., on Redmi Note 8 Pro), use ADB: adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.facebook.katana
Install the latest version
- Download APK from the official Facebook Mobile website (select the ARM64 version for modern Xiaomi).
- Before installing, turn off Play Protection in Google Play settings.
If the update doesnβt help, try to roll back to the old version:
- π₯ Download. APK version 107.0.5304.121 (stable for the MIUI) APKMirror.
- π Remove the current version through Settings β Annexes.
- π² Set up the downloaded one. APK Stop Auto Updating on Google Play.
| WebView version | Compatibility with MIUI | Facebook Stability |
|---|---|---|
| 107.0.5304.121 | MIUI 12β14 | βββββ |
| 111.0.5563.115 | MIUI 13+ | βββ (possible lag) |
| 115.0.5790.130 | Only MIUI 14/15 | ββ (frequent failure) |
Method 5: Reset network settings and DNS
If Facebook crashes when content (photos, videos) is uploaded, the problem may lie in incorrect network settings. Xiaomi sometimes assigns apps βgrays" IP-Addresses that are blocked by Facebook servers:
- Reset network settings: Settings β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Reset network settings This will delete saved Wi-Fi passwords!
- Change. DNS: Go to your Wi-Fi or mobile Internet settings. Set up IP-address manually and write down DNS: π 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) π 8.8.8.8 (Google)
After changing the DNS, check Facebook's flight mode (turn it on for 30 seconds, then turn it off) and it will reset the network cache.
Why does DNS resetting help?
Method 6: Using Lite or Alternative Clients
If none of these methods work, try alternatives:
- π± Facebook Lite: official lightweight app (weighs 2MB, works more stable on weaker devices like Redmi) 8A). You can download it here.
- π PC version: request the desktop version of the site in the browser (Chrome) β Three points. β PC version).
- π Unofficial clients: Hermit Lite Apps (creates a shell for the web version of Facebook) Frost for Facebook (open source, no ads). β οΈ Risk: Unofficial customers may violate Facebook policies and result in account suspension.
For devices on MIUI 14+, the app cloning feature (duplicates Facebook in the sandbox) is also available to enable:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Cloning of applications.
- Choose Facebook and create a clone.
- Run the cloned version β it will work with a separate cache.
Method 7: Radical solution β reset to factory settings
If all the previous methods didn't work, you're going to have to completely reset your phone, which is a last resort, but it's guaranteed to eliminate systemic conflicts.
βοΈ Preparation for discharge
- Back up via Settings β About Phone β Backup (select Local Storage or Mi Cloud).
- Perform reset: Settings β About Phone β Settings Reset β Erase all data On some devices, the path may be different: Settings β Additional β Reset and Reset.
- After reset: Do not restore data from the backup immediately - first check Facebook's "clean" system. Install the application only from an official source (Google Play or APK from Facebook).
β οΈ Note: On devices with bootloader unlocked, a reset may result in the phone being locked (requires re-unlocking via Mi Unlock Tool). β The phone. β Version. MIUI (Tap 10 times on the core).
