Xiaomi TV Stick is a compact device that turns any TV into a smart one with Android TV support. But many users face the problem: there is no full browser by default, and the built-in web browser is limited. In this article, we will discuss how to install Google Chrome, Firefox, Kiwi Browser or any other browser on the Mi TV Stick (including the 4K and S models), even if the Play Market does not show it.
Spoiler: It's not always intuitive. For example, some browsers (like Chrome) don't officially support Android TV, but they can be installed by workarounds. We tested all the methods on the firmware of MIUI TV 2023-2026 and put together current solutions for errors like "Device is not compatible" or "Could not download."
Why is Xiaomi TV Stick not the default browser?
The manufacturer deliberately limits the functionality of the Mi TV Stick to:
- ๐บ Reduce the load on a weak processor (models on the Cortex-A53 or amlogic S905 Not designed for heavy tasks).
- ๐ฎ Xiaomi integrates its own applications into firmware, for example, Mi Browser with advertising.
- ๐ Ensure security: Open access to the browser increases the risk of malware infection through websites.
But the limitations are easy to get around. The main thing is to understand that browsers for Android TV differ from mobile versions by optimizing for remote control and large screens. For example, Firefox for Android TV has a special interface with large buttons, and Chrome will have to adapt manually.
โ ๏ธ Note: Installation of browsers through APK-files may violate the warranty if the console fails due to incompatible software.
