You launched an app on Xiaomi, but instead of the expected content, you see a message like “Interface Not Responding” or endless download? This problem is familiar to many users of Redmi, POCO and Mi smartphones – from the budget Redmi Note 10 to the flagship Xiaomi 14 Ultra. The error can manifest itself in different ways: the application hangs on a white screen, flies out with an error android.process.acore, or the system suggests “Wait” or “Close”.
80% of cases are caused by cache conflicts, memory deficiencies, or errors in recent MIUI updates. But sometimes the root of the problem lies deeper in corrupted system files or app incompatibility with the Android version. In this article, we will discuss unique diagnostic methods for Xiaomi that you will not find in standard instructions, including hidden developer settings and working with ADB.
Why apps don’t respond to Xiaomi: 5 main reasons
Before we jump to the solution, it’s important to understand what exactly caused the crash. On Xiaomi smartphones, the “interface is not responding” error is most often due to the following factors:
- 📱 Overloaded memory: On devices with 4–6 GB of RAM (e.g. Redmi) 9A or POCO M3) Background processes can block resources for new applications.
- 🗑️ Damaged cache: Application or system cache files (Dalvik-cache) accumulate errors after updates MIUI.
- 🔄 Update conflict: After installing security patches (e.g, MIUI 14.0.5) Some applications are losing compatibility.
- 🛠️ Errors in Application Data: Local Settings Files (/data/data/com.package.name) may be damaged.
- 🦠 Viruses or Optimizers: Programs like Clean Master or DU Speed Booster often deletes critical files.
Devices on MIUI 12-14 with Smart Optimization enabled (Settings → Battery → Optimization) are particularly vulnerable, which aggressively closes the background processes, leading to a freeze in the interface, and is also a problem for applications that use overlays (such as Facebook Messenger with chat heads) – they conflict with Xiaomi’s permission system.
Method 1: Instantly reboot and clean up memory
Start with the simplest yet most effective method, forced reboot, which is not the way it is done on other Android devices on Xiaomi:
- Hold the Power + Volume button up for 10-15 seconds until the screen goes out.
- After vibration, release the buttons - the phone will restart in normal mode.
- If the screen doesn’t respond, plug the charger in and repeat step 1 (on some models, this will unlock the “frozen” interface).
After restarting, check your free memory:
- Open the settings → About the phone → Memory.
- If less than 1GB is free, delete unnecessary files or transfer them to a memory card (on Xiaomi, this is done through Files → Categories → Select → Move).
💡
On POCO F3 and Xiaomi 11T, after rebooting, keep your finger on the screen for 5 seconds – this will reset the graphics cache and speed up the interface.
If the problem persists, move on to the next method. Don't use "Optimization" from the battery menu - it often makes things worse by killing application background processes.
Method 2: Clearing the cache and data of the problem application
Damaged cache is the most common cause of hanging, and on Xiaomi, cleaning it has nuances:
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- Select a problem app (like Google Play Store or WhatsApp).
- Click on Clear Cache, then Clear Data (this will remove all app settings, including logins!).
- For system applications (such as Launcher) click first ⋮ → Permits → All permissions and re-enable them.
If an app requests an update after cleaning up the data, don’t agree right away. Check it first, as new versions may contain bugs. For example, in MIUI 14, the update to Google Play Services to version 23.18.14 caused the Redmi Note 11 Pro to freeze.

Remember your login/password (if you need to re-enter)
Check the version of the app on Google Play (if there are any bug complaints)

Method 3: Reset application settings (without data loss)
If cleaning the cache of individual applications didn’t help, perform a global reset of all applications, which will return factory permissions and settings without deleting personal data:
- Open Settings → System → Resetting settings.
- Select “Reset App Settings” (not to be confused with a full reset!).
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot (it will take 2-3 minutes).
After discharge:
- 🔧 Go to Settings. → Permits → Auto-run and manually enable auto-run for critical applications (messengers, banking programs).
- 📵 Turn off Battery Optimization for Frequently Used Applications (Settings) → Battery → Optimization → All applications).
What does resetting app settings do?
On Xiaomi with MIUI 13+, after this reset, a notification “System Optimization” may appear. Wait for it to be completed (up to 10 minutes) – you can not interrupt the process.
Method 4: Update MIUI and applications manually
Interface freezes are often caused by version incompatibility, such as the Xiaomi Community 5.4.7 app conflicting with MIUI 14.0.3, causing the com.xiaomi.account error.
- Update MIUI: Go to Settings → About Phone → System Update. If an update is available, download it and install it (preferably via Wi-Fi). On POCO and global versions of MIUI, updates may come late — manually check once a week.
Reverse to the old version of the problem app
- Remove the current version of the app.
- Download the old version of APK from a trusted source (e.g. APKMirror).
- Before installing, disable auto-update in Google Play (⋮ → Settings → Auto-update of applications → Never).
In safe mode:
- 🔍 Check if the problem app is working, and if it is, it's one of the apps installed that's to blame.
- 📌 Remove recently installed programs (especially optimizers, launchers, or antiviruses).
- 🛡️ Disable device administrators (Settings) → Passwords and security → Device administrators).
