Why Play Market is getting stuck on Xiaomi’s “Download Wait” and how to fix it

This problem is especially common on Xiaomi smartphones (including Redmi, POCO and Mi), and it is not only the slow Internet that is to blame, it is the conflicts between system services, the limitations of MIUI and the peculiarities of Google services on Chinese firmware.

Why Play Market is getting stuck on “Download Waiting” on Xiaomi

Xiaomi smartphones run on the proprietary shell MIUI, which aggressively optimizes background processes, saves battery power, but often breaks the work of Google Play Market and other services.

Cache is the most common reason to freeze during the “Waiting for Download” stage. On Xiaomi, Google Play Market and Google Play Services cache can reach 500 MB, leading to crashes.

Instructions:

1. Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
2. Slip on the three dots in the top right corner and select "Show all apps."
3. Find the Google Play Market (or “Market”) and tap it.
4. Select “Storage” → “Clear Cache” and “Clear Data”.
5. Repeat steps 3–4 for: Google Play Services Download Manager (download manager) Google Services Framework (if any)

Reboot the phone.

MIUI blocks the background work of Download Manager and Google Play Services by default.

Note: Only install versions of Google Play Services that are compatible with your version of Android. The wrong version may cause other apps to crash.

Method 6: Testing for viruses and conflicting applications

Sometimes, “Download Waiting” is caused by:

• 🛡️ Antiviruses (e.g. Avast, Dr.Web) that block downloads APK.
• 🔄 Optimizers (e.g. Clean Master, DU Speed Booster).
• 📱 Launchers (desktop shells) that conflict with MIUI.

How to check:

1. Go to Security → Scan and run a virus check.
2. Temporarily remove all third-party antiviruses and optimizers.
3. If you use a custom launcher (like Nova Launcher), go back to the standard MIUI Launcher.

After that, try to download the app again, and if the problem is gone, the culprit is found, you can return the deleted programs, but add them to the exceptions of the antivirus.

On Xiaomi, the built-in Mi Security antivirus sometimes blocks downloads from the Play Market. To turn it off, go to Security → Settings → Real-time protection and temporarily deactivate the option.

If nothing helps, use the following ways:
