Owners of Xiaomi smartphones with a MIUI shell or HyperOS often face a situation where extra entries marked as working appear in the phone book, this can occur when using corporate mail, connecting a Google account with data sharing, or after installing special business applications.
The presence of such records creates confusion, prevents a quick search for the desired number and sometimes leads to duplication of contacts in the call list.
To clean up the phone book, you need to understand where the data comes from and how to properly manage its display.
Reasons for the appearance of working contacts on Xiaomi
The main reason for the appearance of specific records is the Android for Work feature or corporate security policies implemented through a Microsoft Exchange account or Google Workspace.
When you add a working email to a Xiaomi device, the system automatically creates an isolated space where all data associated with that account, including the address book, is copied.
Often users do not notice that when synchronizing the mailbox, the option of saving contacts is turned on, and they begin to appear in the general list.
⚠️ Note: Deleting your work account may result in a complete cleanup of enterprise data from your device, including emails and files, if stored locally.
Also, the source can be third-party applications-synchronizers, which the user installed earlier for work, but forgot to turn off.
In some cases, the MIUI system mistakenly marks normal contacts as working due to a failure in the cache of the Contacts app.
Verification of synchronization sources
Before you start deleting, it is important to find out which source is loading unwanted records, and you need to go to the system settings.
Go to Settings, find Accounts and Sync (or just Accounts in new versions of HyperOS).
Here you will see a list of all the profiles connected, and pay special attention to those that are marked with a portfolio icon or have the prefix "Work".

- 🔄 Check if the switch is activated opposite the "Contact" item".
- 🗑️ If you no longer need an account, you can delete it completely from this menu.
If you use corporate email, disabling the sync of contacts in this menu will stop new entries from appearing, but will not delete those already saved.
To completely remove it, you will need to perform additional actions directly in the phone book application.
Removal of contacts through the phone application
The easiest way to remove unnecessary entries is to use the built-in Contacts or Phone app.
Open the app and find the menu button, usually represented by three dots or horizontal bars in the corner of the screen.
In the list that opens, select Settings or Contact Display.
You will be asked to choose which groups should appear in the list.
Find the Contact Filter or Contacts option to display.
Uncheck the “Work Profile” box or the specific account you want to hide.
⚠️ Note: Hiding contacts does not permanently remove them, they simply cease to appear in the general list, but remain available when searching for all sources.
If your goal is to delete, not hide, find a specific contact in the list, click on it and select Delete.
The system will ask which copy to delete the record from: from the phone’s memory, SIM-map or profile.
Select the appropriate work account to clear it of excess debris.

Managing through Google Contacts in the browser
The most effective way to remove the site is to use the web version of Google Contacts.
This method allows you to see the full structure of your address book and separate personal and work records.
Open your browser on your computer or phone and go to contacts.google.com.
Sign in to the account that syncs to your Xiaomi.
On the left side of the screen, you'll see a list of groups and shortcuts. Find a section that's labeled "Work" or that's your organization's name.
Highlight all unnecessary contacts using the Ctrl+A key combination (or Cmd+A on a Mac) after clicking on the first item in the list.
Click on the basket icon in the top toolbar.
Changes are automatically synchronized with the smartphone when you have an Internet connection.
This method is especially useful if the contacts are “stick” and are not removed by standard phone interface means.

Disabling the working profile in the system
If you no longer need to separate your personal and workspace, you can disable your profile completely.
Xiaomi owners can find the work profile switch in the notification curtain or in the settings.
Click on the portfolio icon in the Quick Settings panel to deactivate the profile.
After that, all applications and data related to the work will become unavailable, and contacts will disappear from the common database.
For complete removal, go to Settings → Advanced Settings → Work Profile.
Select the option to delete the work profile.
The system will warn you that all data will be erased.
Solving duplicate problems
Often, after deleting work records, users are faced with the fact that contacts were duplicated: one in the memory of the phone, the other in the account.
Modern versions of MIUI have a built-in tool to combine such records.
Go to the Contacts app, click on the menu and select Contact Management.
Find the item Combine Repetitives.
The system will analyze the database and offer to merge duplicates into one record, saving all numbers and mail addresses.
If the automatic unification didn’t work, you can do it manually: open the contact, click Change, then the menu (three dots) and select Unite.
Select the second copy of the contact from the list of suggested ones.
This will help to clear the phone book of visual noise and make the search more convenient.
