Recording phone conversations on Xiaomi smartphones is a challenge that users face for all sorts of reasons, from storing important business information to capturing evidence in controversial situations. However, the standard features of MIUI are not always obvious, and after Android 10+ updates and tightening privacy policies, many of the usual ways have stopped working. In this article, we will analyze all the current methods of recording calls on Redmi, POCO and Xiaomi devices, from built-in tools to workarounds for the latest versions of firmware.
The feature of the theme is that the recording functionality depends on three factors: the version of MIUI (12/13/14/15), the region of the firmware (global, Chinese, European) and the smartphone model. For example, on the Xiaomi 13 Pro with global MIUI 14, the recording is available out of the box, and on the Redmi Note 12 with European firmware it may not be at all, we tested all methods on current devices (2023-2026) and identified those that work stably.
We warn you right away: in some countries (including Russia), recording conversations without the consent of the interlocutor may violate the law on personal data (152-FZ), use this function only for legitimate purposes, for example, to fix agreements with the consent of the second party.
1. Built-in call recording in MIUI: where to look and how to turn on
Starting with MIUI 12.5 and up, Xiaomi has added an official feature to record conversations, but with caveats:
- ๐ฑ It works only on global and Indian firmware (in the European version may not be available).
- ๐ Only the voice of the interlocutor records โ your voice is weakly fixed (due to the limitations of Android).
- โ ๏ธ In some models (POCO F5, Redmi K60) function is hidden in deep settings.
To check for the presence of an embedded record:
- Open the phone application (pipe icon).
- Press three points (โฎ) top-right โ Settings.
- Scroll to the Recording of Conversations section (if not, proceed to the next method).
- Activate Automatic Recording Slider or select Record Manually.
If the item Record conversations is not on the menu, try an alternative way:
Settings โ Applications โ Application Management โ Phone โ Permissions โ Microphone (include)โ ๏ธ Attention: On smartphones with Android 13/14 and MIUI 14+ The embedded recording may be blocked due to Google's policy, in which case the system will display a notice saying, "Talk recording is prohibited by the operator's policy." 3).
2. Hidden recording function via engineering menu (for advanced)
On some Xiaomi models (e.g. Redmi Note 11 Pro+, Xiaomi 12T), call recording is hidden in the engineering menu, which works even where the standard option is disabled, but requires caution:
- ๐ ๏ธ Suitable for Qualcomm Snapdragon devices (MediaTek may not work).
- ๐ถ It does not affect the warranty, but wrong actions can reset network settings.
- ๐ง After activation, the record is turned on by the # button during the call.
Instructions for activation:
- Open the Phone app and enter the code ##36446337## (if it doesn't work, try ##6484## or ##64663###).
- In the engineering menu, select Audio โ Normal Mode โ Type.
- Find the Voice Call Recording option and set the Enabled value.
- Save the settings and restart the smartphone.
Now, when you call, press #, you'll hear the beep signal that you're recording. MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec.
What to do if the engineering menu does not open?
3. Third-party applications for recording: TOP-3 working in 2026
If the built-in methods didn't work, we just need to install specialized software, and we tested dozens of applications and selected those that:
- ๐น Bypass Android's limitations 13/14 (Use Accessibility Service).
- ๐น Keep both voices (your and the interlocutor) with acceptable quality.
- ๐น No root rights are required (except for one exception).
Best options for today:
| Annex | Support for MIUI | Recording quality | Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cube ACR | MIUI 12โ15 | โญโญโญโญ (voice) | It uses Accessibility, runs on Android 14. Free version with ads. |
| Call Recorder by Lovekara | MIUI 13โ14 | โญโญโญ (clear-cut) | Simple interface, automatic recording by numbers from the blacklist. |
| Boldbeast Recorder | All versions. | โญโญโญโญโญ (tuner) | Requires manual codec configuration. Supports Xiaomi on MediaTek. |
How to set up Cube ACR (the most versatile option):
- Download the app from Google Play.
- At the first launch, allow access to: ๐ Telephone (to identify calls), ๐ค Microphone (to record your voice), โ๏ธ Special capabilities (to intercept calls).
Recording format โ AAC
Automatic recording
โ ๏ธ Attention: Cube-type applications ACR They may conflict with Google Phone (a standard Android call). If the recording does not start, install Xiaomi Dialer as the default call in the application settings.
Install the application from the official store |Allow all access requests (microphone, phone, special features) |Select the AAC or AMR format in the settings |Check the work on the test call-->
4.Recording calls via ADB: for users without root
If you do not want to install third-party applications, but the built-in function is disabled, you can activate the recording via ADB-This method doesn't require root rights, but it does:
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Computer with installed ADB and Fastboot.
- ๐ USB-cable (preferably original).
- ๐ฑ Included Debugging by USB smartphone.
Step-by-step:
- Activate Developer Mode: Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI Version (click 7 times)
- Return to Settings โ Additional โ For developers and enable USB debugging.
- Connect your smartphone to your PC and type in the terminal: adb shell settings put global call_recording_support 1
- Reboot the device. Then the phone app will have a recording button.
Important: This method only works on firmware MIUI Up to version 14.0.3. on newer builds Xiaomi blocks ADB-commands to change system settings.
๐ก
If, after the execution, ADB-no recording button commands appear, try resetting the phone application settings (Settings) โ Annexes โ Phone. โ Warehouse โ Clear the data).
5. Alternative ways: from Bluetooth headset to second phone
If none of these methods work, there are workarounds, which are less convenient but guaranteed to work on any device.
- ๐ง Bluetooth headset with recording. Some models (e.g. Sony) WH-1000XM5) They can record sound from a microphone while you're calling, and the downside is the poor quality of your voice.
- ๐ฑ Second phone, put a second phone next to it with the recorder on, which is reliable, but it's not convenient for long conversations.
- ๐ป Recording via PC. Connect your smartphone to your computer and use programs like Audacity to capture sound from your microphone.
For a Bluetooth headset:
- Connect the headset to your smartphone.
- Start a call and activate the recording via the headset app (like Sony Headphones Connect).
- The file will be saved in the headset memory or synced to the cloud.
For recording via second phone:
- ๐ Use voice-enhanced voice recorder (e.g. Voice Recorder by Splend Apps).
- ๐ Place the microphone of the second phone closer to the speaker of the first phone.
- ๐ Turn on the plane mode on the second phone to avoid interference.
๐ก
Alternative methods are not based on MIUI or Android versions, but require additional hardware, and are optimal for one-time recordings when other methods are not available.
6 Where records are stored and how to keep them
Depending on the recording method, files are saved in different folders:
| Method of recording | The path to files | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in MIUI | /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ | .amr or.mp3 |
| Cube ACR | /storage/emulated/0/CubeBackups/CallRecorder/ | .aac or.mp3 |
| Boldbeast | /storage/emulated/0/CallRecordings/ | .mp3 or.wav |
| Engineering menu | /storage/emulated/0/Recordings/ | .amr |
To transfer the recordings to the PC or the cloud:
- Connect your smartphone to your computer via USB (select File Transfer mode).
- Copy files from the specified folders to a safe place.
- For long-term storage, upload the records to Google Drive, Yandex Drive or Telegram (as saved messages).
If the files are not reproduced:
- ๐ Check if they are damaged (try opening on another device).
- ๐ Convert the format via Online-Convert or Audacity.
- ๐ If the recording is too quiet, amplify the sound in Adobe Audition or OCenaudio.
