Why you need a screen recording and what prevents it from turning on
Screen recording on Xiaomi Redmi is a feature that seems simple until you face its limitations. You want to save gameplay, record video instructions or fix a bug in the application, but standard MIUI tools often fail: it doesn't record, the resolution drops, then the button disappears from the curtain. What's the matter?
The problem lies in Xiaomiโs policy: since MIUI 12, the company has tightened control over screen recording due to security requirements (protection from screenshots in banking applications, instant messengers). For example, in Redmi Note 10 Pro or Redmi 12, you will not be able to burn the screen to Netflix or SberBank Online โ the system will simply block the recording.
In this article, we will discuss 5 working ways to record the screen, from built-in tools to third-party applications that bypass restrictions, and also explain how to record internal sound (yes, it is possible without root!) and why on some Redmi models the recording button disappears after the update.
Method 1: Standard screen recording in MIUI (without applications)
The most obvious method is to use the built-in Screen Recorder feature, which is found in MIUI 11 and later. But there are pitfalls here: on some models (such as the Redmi 9A or Redmi 8), this feature can be disabled by default or hidden.
To activate it:
- Open Settings โ Special Opportunities โ Quick settings.
- Find the "Screen Record" list and drag it to the active panel (top of the screen).
- Unwrap the notification curtain and click on the recording icon (if not, swipe the curtain to the left to see all the icons).
Before the start of the recording, a menu will appear with settings:
- ๐ค Microphone โ Voice recording (turn on if you are commenting on the video).
- ๐ System sound โ internal sound (not working on all models!).
- ๐ฑ Quality - choose. 1080p For better results, but the files will be heavier).
- โ๏ธ Showing touches is useful for tutorials.
Close unnecessary applications (saves battery)
Turn on "Do Not Disturb" mode.
Check the vacant space (1 minute Full HD = ~100 MB)
Turn off notifications (to avoid getting recorded)-->
โ ๏ธ Note: Redmi with MediaTek processor (e.g. Redmi) 10C) The internal sound recording may not work due to the limitations of the chipset, in which case use Method 3 or Method 5.
Method 2: Record through Game Turbo (for gamers)
If you want to record gameplay, donโt be bothered with standard recording โ MIUI has a hidden Game Turbo tool that is optimized for gaming. It allows you to record a screen with 60 FPS (on supported models) and minimal lags.
How to turn on:
- Open the game you want to record.
- Swipe from right to left across the screen to call the Game Turbo panel (if not, turn on Settings โ Special Features โ Game Turbo).
- Click on the video camera icon (๐ฅ) toolbar.
- Select a resolution (720p or 1080p) and press Start.
Advantages of this method:
- ๐ฎ Optimized for gaming (less friezes).
- ๐ Low battery consumption compared to standard recording.
- ๐ง Records the sound of the game (but not the system sounds!).

Game Turbo for Games
The App (AZ Screen Recorder, etc.)
Through PC (ADB/Scrcpy)
I haven't tried it yet.-->
โ ๏ธ Attention: Redmi Note 11 Pro+ The newer Game Turbo can block recording in some games (e.g., the game's own game, PUBG Mobile or Genshin Impact due to anticheats. In this case, use Method 4 (write via PC).
Method 3: Appendix side (with internal sound recording)
If the built-in tools don't work, third-party apps come to the rescue, and the best ones are:
- ๐ฑ AZ Screen Recorder โ supports recording internal audio on Xiaomi via a workaround (requires to enable Audio Playback Capture in Android 10 settings)+).
- ๐ฅ DU Recorder is a simple interface, but can display ads.
- ๐ง Mobizen โ allows you to stream the screen on the PC in real time.
How to set up AZ Screen Recorder to record internal sound:
- Install the app from Google Play.
- Open the app settings and go to Audio Settings.
- Turn on Record Internal Audio (MIUI 12.5+ may require ADB permission).
- Run the recording and check that the sound is being recorded (e.g., turn on music on YouTube).
How to Enable Internal Sound Recording Through ADB
Important: On Redmi with MIUI 14 and later, recording internal sound through third-party applications can be blocked by the system, in which case only recording via a PC (Method 5) will help.
Method 4: Recording screens via PC (without root)
If none of the previous methods worked, you'll have to write it through a computer.
- ๐ฅ๏ธ PC Windows/macOS/Linux.
- ๐ฑ Cable USB (better-than-original).
- ๐ ๏ธ Scrcpy (free, no advertising).
Instructions:
- Download Scrcpy from the official website (github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy) and unpack the archive.
- On your phone, turn on Settings โ About Phone โ MIUI version (click 7 times to activate Developer Mode).
- Return to Settings โ Additional โ For developers and enable โDebugging by USBโ.
- Connect your phone to your PC and run scrcpy.exe (on macOS/Linux, via the terminal).
- In the program window, press Ctrl + R to start recording the screen (video will be saved to PC in.mp4) format.
Advantages of this method:
- ๐ฌ Entry in 1080p/60fps lagless.
- ๐ Capture internal sound (if you select Scrcpy settings) --audio=on).
- ๐ฑ๏ธ Convenient for long recordings (does not put down the phone battery).
๐ก
If Scrcpy doesnโt see the device, update the drivers. ADB Or try another one. USB-Redmi's locked on cable. OEM Sometimes you need additional permission on the menu "USB-debugging".
Method 5: Hidden Screen Recording (for MIUI 13/14)
In the latest versions of MIUI 13 and MIUI 14, Xiaomi hid the advanced screen recording settings to open them:
- Start the standard screen recording (through the curtain).
- During recording, swipe down from the top edge of the screen to open the control panel.
- Click on the recording icon (it will turn red) and hold it for 2 seconds.
- A hidden menu will appear with additional options including:
| Option. | Description | Works on |
|---|---|---|
| Webcam recording | Adds an image from the front camera to the corner of the screen | Redmi Note 11/12, Redmi K50 |
| Clear Sound mode | Removes microphone noise (good for streaming) | MIUI 14 and newer |
| Recording in the background | Allows you to turn down the recording and use the phone | All models except the Redmi 9/9A |
| Bitrate 20 Mbps | Improves video quality (but increases file size) | Redmi with Snapdragon 7xx/8xx |
โ ๏ธ Note: Redmi with MediaTek Helio processor G88/G96 (Like Redmi. 10 2022) The "Clean Sound" option can cause artifacts in the recording. AZ Screen Recorder.
Frequent mistakes and how to fix them
Even after setting up the screen correctly, recording the screen on Xiaomi Redmi may not work.
- ๐ซ "The recording button disappeared from the curtain" โ Restart your phone or reset your quick panel settings in Settings โ Special facilities โ Quick setups.
- ๐ "No sound recorded" โ Nana MIUI 12.5+ set the settings on โ Annexes โ Permits โ Additionally. โ Capturing audio for the selected application.
- ๐ "Video lagging or slowing down" โ Reduce the permit to 720p or close the background applications.
- ๐ "The record is blocked in banking applications" โ Use Scrcpy or record through another device (e.g., mirroring on a PC).
If none of these methods helped, check:
- ๐ฑ Version MIUI โ In beta versions of the firmware, screen recording can be disabled.
- ๐ Battery Charge โ At a level below 15%, the system automatically turns off the recording.
- ๐ก๏ธ Antivirus โ some applications (such as Avast) block screen recording.
๐ก
If the recording is interrupted after 3-5 minutes, check the energy saving settings: add the write application to the exceptions (Settings โ Battery โ Battery Optimization).
