The clipboard on Xiaomi smartphones is a temporary storage for copied texts, links and even images, but many users do not know how to access it. Unlike iOS or pure Android, the MIUI shell hides the buffer history in an unobvious way, and in some versions of the firmware, this feature is completely disabled by default. If you are trying to find previously saved text or clear the copy history, but do not see the usual icon, this article will help you figure out.
We tested all the current methods on Redmi Note 12 Pro+, POCO X5 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra devices with MIUI 14 and MIUI 15 firmware (Android 13/14). It turns out that the way you log in depends not only on the shell version, but also on the regional firmware. For example, in global versions of MIUI, the history of the buffer is often absent βout of the boxβ, whereas in Chinese builds it is activated by default. Below are all working options, including hidden settings and third-party solutions.
1. Standard way through the Xiaomi keyboard
The easiest method is to use the built-in Mi Keyboard (aka Xiaomi Keyboard), which works on most devices with MIUI 12 and later, but requires pre-configuration:
- Open any field to enter text (for example, in Notes or Messages).
- Tap the field to make the keyboard appear.
- Click on the clipboard icon (usually looks like two pages or a paper clip) in the top panel of the keyboard.
If the icon is not there, it's disabled to activate it.
- π§ Go to Settings. β Additionally. β Language and input β Keyboard Xiaomi.
- π Select Keyboard Settings β buffer.
- π Turn on the switch to Save the history of the clipboard.
π‘
If the buffer icon never appeared after turning on the story, try rebooting your smartphone or changing the theme to Settings β Screen β Theme. Sometimes this resets the keyboard cache.
In the menu that opens, you will see all the texts, links and even small images (if supported) copied over the past day.
- π Insert any element with a long tap.
- ποΈ Delete unnecessary entries by swipe to the left.
- π Search for specific text by keywords.
β οΈ Attention: B MIUI 15 on some models (e.g. Xiaomi 14) the buffer history is stored for only 1 hour instead of 24.
2. Alternative method through "Notes"
If the Xiaomi keyboard doesnβt save history or youβre using a third-party one (like Gboard), try a workaround through the Notes app. MIUI:
- Open the Notes app (yellow notebook icon).
- Create a new note and paste any text (for example, click Insert after copying).
- Slip on the inserted text and select View History (if the option is available).
Some versions of MIUI display the last 5-10 copies, but this method is not universal: it works on the POCO F5 with MIUI 14, and it does not work on the Redmi 10C.
| Xiaomi model | MIUI 14 (Android 13) | MIUI 15 (Android 14) |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi 13/13 Pro | Buffer in keyboard (24h) | Buffer in keyboard (1h) |
| Redmi Note 12 | Buffer in the keyboard (unsubscribed.) | Buffer in keyboard (24h) |
| POCO X5 Pro | Buffer in "Notes" | Buffer on the keyboard |
| Xiaomi 12T | No built-in buffer. | Demands Gboard. |
On devices with firmware for the European Region (EEA), the clipboard history is often disabled due to the GDPR privacy policy. In this case, only installing an alternative keyboard will help.
3. Use of third-party keyboards (Gboard, SwiftKey)
If the built-in methods don't work, the most reliable option is to install a keyboard from Google or Microsoft, for example, Gboard not only stores copy history, but also syncs it between devices:
- π± Install Gboard from Google Play.
- π§ Activate it in Settings. β Language and input β Current keyboard.
- π±οΈ In any input field, tap on the buffer icon (three dots or a paper clip) β buffer.
The advantages of Gboard:
- π History is stored for up to 7 days (configured).
- βοΈ Synchronization with Google account.
- π Convenient search for copied.
β οΈ Note: On Xiaomi smartphones with a blocked bootloader, some Gboard features may not work stable due to restrictions MIUI. If the keyboard βflys outβ, try disabling the battery optimization for it in Settings β Annexes β Permits β Optimizing the battery.

4. Access via Engineering Menu (for Advanced)
If you use Xiaomi with an unlocked bootloader or custom firmware (like Pixel Experience), you can try activating hidden buffer history through an engineering menu.
- Open the Phone app and type ##4636##.
- Go to the Usage Statistics section β Clipboard.
- Activate the Enable clipboard history option.
After that, the copy history will be available in the standard MIUI keyboard.
The risks of the engineering menu
On some devices (e.g. Redmi K60) this code doesn't work, so try the alternative code:
##36446337##5. Exchange buffer management applications
If the built-in methods don't work, Google Play has specialized applications for working with the buffer.
- π Clipboard Manager β Keeps history indefinitely, supports categorization.
- π Clip Stack β easy search and pinning important records.
- βοΈ Jarsilioβs Clipboard Manager β Cloud Sync and Encryption.
Check application permissions before installing: some buffer managers request access to Notices or Special Copy Tracking Features. On MIUI, this may conflict with system limitations.

The clipboard side of the app is the only reliable way to get copy history on devices with global MIUI firmware where the standard feature is disabled.
6. Clearing the clipboard on Xiaomi
If you wish to delete your copy history (for example, for privacy reasons), do the following:
- π§Ή In the standard Xiaomi keyboard: open the buffer (as in the first method) β Press Clear everything.
- ποΈ In Gboard: Exchange buffer β Remove everything or swipe on each element.
- π In third-party managers: usually the cleaning option is in the Settings menu β Privacy.
On devices with MIUI 15, the buffer history is automatically cleared when:
- Reboot your smartphone.
- Clear the cache of the Xiaomi Keyboard app in Settings β Applications.
- Reset the settings to factory.
β οΈ Note: On Xiaomi with enterprise firmware (for example, for business users), the buffer history can be stored on the companyβs servers. To completely remove it, you will have to reset the device to factory settings through Settings. β The phone. β Resetting settings.
Frequent problems and solutions
Xiaomi users often experience the clipboard βfailingβ or βdisappearingβ: Here are the typical reasons and ways to eliminate them:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The buffer icon is not displayed | Function disabled in keyboard settings | Include in the keyboard settings β clipboard |
| History clears itself | Time limit in MIUI 15 | Use Gboard or third-party applications |
| The buffer does not save images | System buffer limitation | Copy the image to the Gallery manually |
| The app flies out when inserted | Conflict with MIUI optimization | Disable Battery Optimization for Keyboard |
If none of the methods worked, check:
- π± Firmware Version: on Beta Versions MIUI buffer often off.
- π§ Regional settings: on Chinese firmware function is more stable.
- π οΈ Root rights: Some buffer managers require root for full access.
