Why the standard Gmail exit on Xiaomi works differently
Owners of Xiaomi Redmi smartphones often face a paradoxical situation: clicking “Out” in the Gmail application, and after an hour the account is again active, the letters are synchronized, and in Settings → Google Accounts the profile hangs. It’s all about the features of the MIUI firmware, which deeply integrates Google services into the system. Unlike “clean” Android, leaving the mail does not mean deleting the account from the device – it simply goes to “sleep” mode until you need other applications to work (for example, YouTube or Google Play Store).
What’s more, Redmi with MIUI 14+ adds an additional layer of protection: it can block the complete deletion of an account if it’s used for Find My Device or Google Pay. This is done for security, but often causes confusion. For example, if you’re selling a phone, it’s not enough to just log out of the mail — you need to completely delete your Google account from the system, otherwise the new owner can’t add their profile without a reset to the factory settings.
Method 1: Exit through Gmail (partially shutdown)
The most obvious, but least effective, method is to use the Gmail app itself, which is suitable if you need to temporarily suspend email sync but not delete your account completely.
- 📱 Open the Gmail app on your Xiaomi Redmi.
- 👤 Slip on the round profile avatar in the upper right corner.
- ⚙️ Select “Manage Google Accounts” (or “Manage Accounts” in English firmware).
- 🔄 In the list of accounts, click on the desired one, then scroll down and select “Delete Account” (Warning! is not an exit, but a complete deletion).
- 🚫 To simply exit, go back and click “Exit” (this item may not be available on some versions). MIUI).
The problem with this method is that after a while, the system will reset the account for background services. For example, if you have contact or calendar sync enabled, MIUI will automatically wake up the profile. To avoid this, after leaving the application, go to Settings → Accounts and Sync → Google and manually disable all switches (contacts, calendar, drive, etc.).
💡
If you don't have a "Get Out" option, upgrade the Gmail app to the latest version through the Google Play Store.
Method 2: Delete Google Account from the System
If you need to permanently delete your account (for example, before selling your phone), a standard exit from Gmail is not enough. MIUI. Important: After this procedure, you will lose access to the:
- 📧 Gmail emails (you will need to log in again).
- 🎮 Apps from Google Play (re-authorization required).
- 📱 Backups in Google Drive (if linked to this account).
- 📍 Find My Device (Search for the phone will stop working).
Instructions for Xiaomi Redmi (relevant to MIUI 12-14):
- Open the settings (cog icon on the desktop).
- Go to Accounts and Sync (or Passwords & Security → Accounts on global firmware).
- Tap your Google account.
- In the upper right corner, press three dots (⋮) and select “Delete account».
- Confirm the action by entering the password or pattern lock of the phone.

⚠️ Note: If the phone is enabled Factory Reset Protection, FRP), When you delete your account, you need to log in and log in the next time you turn on your device, which is a security measure against theft. If you're selling your phone, be sure to turn it off. FRP beforehand (in Google settings) → Security → Find the device).
Method 3: Exit through the browser (if the application does not work)
If your Redmi Gmail app is stuck or not open, you can log out via the mobile version of the site, which is also useful if you use multiple accounts and want to log out of only one.
Steps:
- Open a browser (such as Google Chrome or Mi Browser).
- Go to mail.google.com.
- If you automatically enter, tap the avatar in the upper right corner.
- Select Sign Out of All Accounts (or Sign Out of All Accounts).
- Confirm the action.
Note that this method does not delete your account from your phone, but only ends your browser session. To completely break your connection with Google, combine it with Method 2 (delete via settings).
Once a week.
Just before the phone is sold.
I never go out.
I don't know how to do that.

Method 4: Reset password (if you forgot the login details)
Situation: you want to log out of your account, but don't remember your password, and your phone requires it to confirm that you've deleted it, so you first need to reset your password through another device (computer or tablet) and then go back to Redmi.
Step-by-step:
- On your computer or other phone, open accounts.google.com.
- Select “Forgot your password?” and follow the recovery instructions (requires access to a backup email or phone).
- After resetting your password, go back to Xiaomi Redmi.
- Go to Settings → Google Accounts and try to delete your profile again by entering a new password.
⚠️ Note: If two-factor authentication is enabled on your account (2FA), Resetting a password may require code from the Google Authenticator app or SMS. Make sure you have access to backup codes, otherwise the recovery process will take days.
What if Google asks for an old password?
Method 5: Resetting the phone to factory settings (last resort)
If no one helps (e.g., an account freezes after a failed MIUI update or a phone is bought by hand and the previous owner is not logged out of the profile), only a complete reset remains, which will delete all data from the device, including photos, messages and installed apps.
How to make a reset on Xiaomi Redmi:
- Back up your important data (via Settings → About Phone → Backup).
- Go to Settings → Additional → Recovery and Reset.
- Select “Settings Reset” (or “Erase all data”).
- Enter the screen lock password (if it is set).
- Confirm the action by clicking “Erase everything”.
Once the phone is rebooted, it will look like new, and when it is first turned on, it will suggest adding a Google account, at which point you can skip the step or log in under a different profile.
| Output method | Deleting the account completely? | Does he need a password? | Impact on data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Through the Gmail app | ❌ No. | ❌ No. | Suspends the synchronization of emails |
| Through MIUI settings | ✅ Yes. | ✅ Yes. | Remove all links to Google |

Frequent problems and their solutions
Even after leaving the account, Xiaomi Redmi users face unexpected difficulties, and here are the most common ways to eliminate them:
- 🔄 The account itself returns after the reboot. MIUI Automatic synchronization is enabled. Solution: Turn it off in Settings. → Google accounts → Synchronize and delete your account again.
- 🔒 Phone asks for password from old account after reset.Reason: Factory Reset Protection activated (FRP). Solution: Enter the details from the last account linked or contact Xiaomi with proof of purchase.
- ⚠️ You can't delete your account, the button is inactive, and the reason is that the profile is used for Google Pay or Find My Device, so you can untie your phone from those services via the web version on your computer.
- 📵 After deleting, Google Play apps stopped working, and the reason is that the apps are linked to the account, solution: log in again or reinstall the software.
If none of these methods worked, check the version of MIUI in Settings → About Phone. On some old firmware (e.g. MIUI 11 and below), the account settings interface is different. In this case, update the system through Settings → Software Update or use the official Xiaomi site to manually install the update.
💡
On Xiaomi Redmi with MIUI 14+, logging out of Gmail via the app does not delete your account from the system. Use MIUI settings or phone reset to completely break the connection.
