Deleting an app on a Xiaomi smartphone is a matter of seconds, but what if you accidentally erase an important program or game? Unlike a computer where files can be recovered from the trash, it gets harder on Android: once removed, the app disappears irrevocably... or almost irrevocably. Fortunately, in the MIUI ecosystem, there are several ways to recover lost programs, from standard features to hidden firmware capabilities.
Many users mistakenly believe that restoring applications to Xiaomi requires root rights or complex manipulation. In fact, 90% of the time, built-in MIUI tools or Google services are enough. The main thing is to know where to look and what settings to use. In this article, we will discuss 5 proven methods, including recovery through the cloud, Google Play cache and even manual installation of APK.
If you have removed a system application (like a Camera or Phone), some of the methods in this article may not work – it will require a device flash to restore them.
1.Recovery through the "Basket" at MIUI
Starting with MIUI 12, Xiaomi added the application Recycle Bin, the equivalent of a computer basket that temporarily stores remote programs, which is the fastest way to return a randomly erased utility, but it only works for 30 days after it is deleted.
To use the Basket:
- Open Settings → Applications → Application Management.
- In the upper right corner, click on the “Basket” icon** (the bin icon).
- Select the desired application and tap Restore.
⚠️ Note: Recycle Bin is not available on all Xiaomi models. If it is not on your menu, move on to the following methods. Also note that system applications (such as Security or Themes) do not fall into the Recycle Bin - they will have to be restored differently.

- Select Application and Device Management → Management → Installed → Not Installed.

Recovery via Mi Cloud (Xiaomi Cloud)
If your Xiaomi has Mi Cloud sync enabled, you have a chance to return remote applications along with their data, a method that is suitable for users who have previously backed up the system.
How to restore:
- Go to Settings → Xiaomi Account → Mi Cloud.
- Select the backup of the device.
- Check for an up-to-date backup (date of creation).
- Click Restore and select the data you want (including the Apps).
Important: backups in Mi Cloud are only stored for 30 days unless a paid subscription is activated. Free rate allows you to store up to 5 GB of data.
⚠️ Attention: Restore from backup will overwrite the current data on the phone. If after creating the backup you add new contacts, photos or messages, they may disappear.

4.Use of a file manager to search for APK
When removing the annex, APK-The file (installation package) can stay in the device's memory for a while — especially if you've cleared the cache or data but haven't uninstalled the program completely.
How to search for APK:
- 🔍 Use the built-in File Manager (or a third-party, such as Solid Explorer).
- 📁 Go to the folders: /data/app/ (Root rights are required) /sdcard/Android/data/ (for certain applications) /sdcard/Download/ (if you kept APK manually)
- 📱 Look for files with the.apk extension by application name.
If you find an APK, just tap it to install it. If the file is corrupted or not installed, download the latest version from a trusted source (such as APKMirror).
⚠️ Attention: Installation APK From unknown sources, it can be dangerous to infect your phone with viruses or spyware. Always check the hash amounts of files and reviews about the source.

5.Restore system applications via Fastboot
If you delete a system application (e.g. Camera, Gallery, or Security), the usual methods will not work, and then you will have to use Fastboot, a firmware mode that allows you to reinstall stock MIUI components.

- 📱 Unlocked bootloader (if never unlocked, this method will not work).
- 🔗 Official firmware for your model (download from Xiaomi website).
📌 Step-by-step instruction:
- Download the firmware in.tgz format and unpack it.
- Connect your phone to your PC in Fastboot mode (clip Volume Down + Power when the device is off).
- In the Mi Flash Tool, select the firmware folder and press Refresh (your device should be displayed).
- At the bottom, choose Clean all and lock (if you are not afraid to block the bootloader) or Clean all.
- Press Flash and wait until it is completed (5-10 minutes).
⚠️ Warning: This method will completely reset your phone to factory settings! Before you run the firmware, back up all important data. Also note that unlocking the bootloader erases all data on the device.

Recovery of system applications via Fastboot is an extreme method, only use it if other methods have not worked, and you are ready for a complete reset of the phone.
How to Prevent Loss of Applications in the Future
To avoid the problem of remote applications, follow these tips:
- 🔄 Enable automatic synchronization with Mi Cloud (Settings) → Xiaomi account → Mi Cloud → Synchronization).
