Accidental deletion of a phone book is a stressful situation that almost every smartphone owner has faced. In this article, we’ll look at all the available methods, from simple settings in your phone to using specialized software on your computer.
The speed of your actions directly affects the success of the operation, and the less new data is stored in the device's memory after deletion, the better the chances of a full recovery without loss of quality of records.
Checking the basket in the Contacts app
The easiest and most often forgotten way to return numbers is through the built-in Recycle Bin feature, which in the standard MIUI Contacts app, the deleted records are not erased instantly, but are moved to a special buffer where they are stored for 30 days, giving the user time to realize the error and correct the situation without using third-party tools.
To access this section, you need to open the phonebook app and go to the settings menu, which is usually hidden behind a three-dot icon or a gear in the upper right corner, and you'll find Deleted Contacts or Recycle Bin, and if less than a month has passed since erasing, you'll see a list of records available for recovery.
⚠️ Note: If you have cleaned the shopping cart within the application or more than 30 days have passed, the data will be permanently deleted, and this method will not help.
Some versions of the firmware may have different interfaces. If you don't find the basket in the main menu, try going through the Settings path. → Annexes → Contacts. There may be a separate recovery option that depends on the Android version. It's important not to ignore this stage, as it takes less than a minute and doesn't require an internet connection.
Recovery through the Mi Cloud
Xiaomi’s ecosystem offers a powerful backup tool, the Mi Cloud. If you have signed in to Mi Account and activated contact synchronization on your device, all changes to the phone book are automatically reflected on the company’s servers, which is the most reliable way, since data is stored remotely and does not depend on the memory state of the smartphone itself.
To use this method, go to the official cloud storage site via a browser on your computer or other phone. You will need to enter the username and password from your Mi ID. After authorization, select the Contacts icon. Contact Recovery is often available in the web version interface, which allows you to roll back the state of the phone book to a certain date.
The system will suggest choosing a time stamp, such as "yesterday" or "week ago," which is especially useful if you accidentally deleted a large group of numbers or if there was a synchronization failure that "erased" the current data with the old one, and after confirming the selection, a recovery process will begin, which will take several minutes depending on the number of records.

Use of Google Contacts
Android users often forget that their default data is stored in a Google account. Even if you use a Xiaomi phone, the first setup is that the system prompts you to log in to a Google account, and the phone book is often synced to that account, rather than the manufacturer's cloud, which creates an additional copy that is easy to verify.
Go to contacts.google.com from any device. On the left side of the screen, find the menu (three-strip icon) and select Recycle Bin. This stores remote contacts for 30 days. You can select individual records or restore them all at once by clicking the appropriate button. This method works regardless of your phone model.

Import and export through SIM-map and file VCF
The good old ways of working with SIM-.vcf is still relevant, especially if cloud services have been disabled. Many users periodically export contacts to a file and save it on their computer or send it to their messenger. Check your archives on Telegram ("Favorites"), mail or flash drive.
If you have previously copied the numbers to SIM-A card (which is often done when changing phones), the import process will take a couple of seconds. Put the SIM in your phone, go to the Contacts app, open the settings menu, and select Import Contacts — SIM-map, and select the account where you want to save data (better immediately in Google or Mi Cloud).

The.vcf format is a universal standard. If you find one in your phone's memory or on your computer, just click on it. Android automatically prompts you to import the records it contains. This is the only way to restore contacts if the phone was reset to factory settings, but the backup file is saved.
Third-party recovery applications
If the built-in tools don't work, Google Play apps come to the rescue, programs like DiskDigger, Dr.Fone or GT Recovery can scan the device's deep memory, but their effectiveness depends heavily on Root rights. Without superuser rights, most applications can only find cached thumbnails or old data.

Preventing Data Loss in the Future
